Trust me: the world doesn’t need a bunch of BFFs with beards. I’ve watched men change from confident, decisive, and action-oriented lions to second-guessing, scared-of-their-shadows, don’t-rock-the-boat mice. They don’t feel confident in relationships, work environments - or anywhere. Men are either looking for something or running from something; maybe a bit of both. Well, it’s time to stop running. It’s time to "man up" to face the real issues.

Inspired by the physical challenges of stalking elk in the Oregon wilderness—traversing mountainous terrain, braving erratic weather, and evading his quarry’s even more dangerous predators—he began an ever-evolving journey of self-improvement. To become the best bowhunter of wild elk, to the caliber he believed he could be, Cam realized he would need more than archery skills.

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Story
In Everthing Is F*cked, Mark Manson turns his gaze from the inevitable flaws within each individual self to the endless calamities taking place in the world around us. Drawing from the pool of psychological research on these topics, as well as the timeless wisdom of philosophers such as Plato, Nietzsche, and Tom Waits, he dissects religion and politics and the uncomfortable ways they have come to resemble one another. He looks at our relationships with money, entertainment, and the internet, and how too much of a good thing can psychologically eat us alive.

Valuable self-improvement book
This was an excellent book about how to control yourself and create a better life. The premise is that the majority of human decisions are emotional, not logical. Becoming cognizant of this emotional bias is the first step to mastering yourself and accomplishing your goals.
The narrator is well-spoken and the audiobook was a valuable addition to my commute. Recommended.

Science heavy for those of us who want the why
This isn't ra-ra touchy feely stuff, tho' it's highly motivating. This is section by section here's a tool, here's why it works, here are the results from when I tried it data driven advice. Each chapter ends with exercises to help you make the changes work and last.
My one complaint is with the audio format. Because of the chapter lengths, it's virtually impossible to back up and replay sections in your car or using a voice command Amazon device. I wish more audiobook producers kept in mind that reference book listeners need better divisions for stopping, flagging, rewinding, etc. But I wasn't going to punish the author by yanking a point from what turned out to be excellent information in a sea of "feel better" self help books that don't have much behind the advice. This one gives excellent and useful tools backed up by studies.
I was particularly struck around Chapter 7 or 8 with the observation that society trains people to be mediocre as a herd safety mechanism because it's dangerous to be an outlier (or words to that effect). Carrying that one with me.

Mediocre with rambling and unfocused discussion.
The author presents a discussion for trying to help folks overcome emotions and feelings. He takes 11 (Audible) chapters to get to the point. The text feels much like we are being talked at with presented information. That is, the author has collected some documents and researcher discussion to support his argument about the importance of the Vagus nerve. In that respect, it is more unfocused as it does not really present actionable tasks for readers interested in moving past emotions and feelings.
I understand this nerve is important and relates to performance and rest, but I feel much (almost 10 chapters) could have been condensed into 1 or 2 chapters on this topic. In fact, there are reflection questions and action suggestions at the end of chapters but they feel like afterthoughts and never really seem to move the reader/listener toward a goal.
Then, if you are more interested in the physiology and biological aspects of performance, but from the standpoint of largely the Vagus nerve and heart rate variability, then this is likely a text for you. If you are more interested in actionable items and steps to move past emotions and feelings, then I'd suggest looking elsewhere. That was my experience; YMMV.

Not Just A Catchy Title
In my search to begin making sense of a few things I was grappling with, this book initially caught my attention with it's title, but then kept me along with the sharing of real life stories and situations that I related to. So I read on and stayed engaged through each chapter, and even though I need to regroup and revisit some of the more complex topics, I very much plan on giving it a good second read, making sure my notes and activities are in order and fully answering each of the reflections from each chapter. All in all, this book was a perfect start to help me start an organized path forward, now well-armed with a number of tools to deal with or clear any obstacles previously keeping me idle.

Good learnings, bad audience
The topics in the book are good, but aside from other self-development books this one goes way to deep into technicalities. In my opinion people with a better understanding of medical topics will surely enjoy this book; however, those with little knowledge of medical stuff will find it hard to catch since the author gives for granted that everyone knows about the technical stuff reviewed in the book. The constant use of quotes and "copy paste" information from research makes it hard to land the thoughts about self development, plus the audio quality is not constant and sometimes feels weird due to the change in voice. Activities given at the end of each chapter are good for reflexion, but knowing where each chapter ends its difficult due to the bad interface specially with the order of chapters.

Listen to the first half
The book starts off strong drawing some interesting linkages between your mental and physical health. Unfortunately by the midpoint it has descended into pseudo science and psycho blather concerning radio waves, grounding yourself to the Earth (like, physically to allow your electrons to"flow"), and sensory deprivation chambers. The author is not a natural narrator and his tone and cadence can be distracting.

It is one of the best self-help books I have read.
Full of scientific and practical evidences, advice on how to use the chunk of data provided by other researchers.
The Structure of the most of this book is in a pattern, ‘give the theory/thesis of something’s benefit, give data to prove, give explanation how to use, give real life examples (mostly personal) and sum up. His social interaction in the book is incredible and found a good way to communicate with younger generation as well as older generation.
