Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

There are millions of stories in the city - some magical, some tragic, others terror-filled or triumphant. Jonah Kirk’s story is all of those things as he draws listeners into his life in the city as a young boy, introducing his indomitable grandfather, also a "piano man"; his single mother, a struggling singer; and the heroes, villains, and everyday saints and sinners who make up the fabric of the metropolis in which they live - and who will change the course of Jonah’s life forever. Welcome to The City, a place of evergreen dreams where enchantment and malice entwine.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when - or if - it will go away.

ANYONE TOO STUPID TO LOOT WAS JUST SMART ENOUGH TO STARVE
It's mystery told from six different views. Many of these views are from the bad guys. Episode is correct, as at the end you will still not know what is going on. If you are like me you will certainly be captured and want to continue. I love this sort of thing and will be getting the rest of the episodes. All the narrators are good to excellent and make the whole thing more entertaining.

Hooked
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Pros
1. Who doesn't love a good end of the world romp? How about especially when, the end comes from god knows what. I am banking its not zombies... (hate to say this publicly but I am getting tired of zombies)
2.It reminds me of a lot of books that I have read and loved, without being predictable. It is easy to follow. The characters are fairly diverse and almost all are likable.
3.It is free so there was absolutely no way I could lose.
Cons
There is only one. The serial killer character felt forced and without dimension. It felt like the authors put together a grab bag of audacious mad libs that ranged from lame to jarring swears. I guess that is why they have the warning upfront about content. Think about this for a second. They Had to put a warning on their book because of how unnecessary and stupid some of the language is.
Hahahha. I sound like someones mom, but I am not.

Bring on episode 2!
First of all, Thank you Audible, for giving us this opportunity! Had this not been in the "freebies" list I might have overlooked this GREAT opening episode
This was a really good first run. Individuals across the country wake up to a seemingly empty world, The story is very much in the style of Stephen King. The author really fleshed out his characters, which to me is very important to a story. There's even a serial killer! Anyway, the big mystery is, of course, What happened. Is it an alien invasion? Some strange world war? Or what?
I know its not an original concept, but thus far, it's a really good story! I look forward to part 2.

Gave Up
I normally do not quit on a book, but I found myself wanting to skip to the end. I love post-apocolypritc Sci Fi and am an avid reader. There are multiple issues with this book that made me give up on trying to struggle through it. Here are a few:
The book jumps perspectives before you are connected to the character(s). The writing pulls you out of the narrative, not because of the language, violence, or weird sexual perversion, but because it isn't cohesive or well-structured. Normally, I like being in the mind of different characters because you get an interconnected web and ultimately a more complete picture (Read Oryx and Crake series), but that doesn't happen here; it's just confusing.

I really like sci fi but I'm not a fan of crude writing that contains an abundance of F bombs and teenage self gratification scenes. I stopped at that point and chose to clean my brain of this mess. Narrators were good. Thankfully, this was free

Grabbed me like the monster in the closet!
What happened? Almost everyone has vanished, but to where? How? Most importantly, why?
The different narrators keep the story fresh, alive and in your mind. This book sample had me scrambling to purchase the full Season 1. I am chomping at the bit to get to the next Season.
I am a woman who hated "Lost". I thought it was the stupidest premise ever and after the first show, I refused to watch more of it. It didn't grab me, the characters were not believable or likeable as far as I was concerned. Yesterday's Gone should have struck me the same way but it grabbed me with it's unique storyline.
Having several narrators was the best decision the Author/Publisher could have made, it makes this story really come alive.

Not Enough F-Bombs
Would you listen to FREE Yesterday's Gone: Season 1 - Episode 1 again? Why?
No. Do F-Bombs make a good story good? If so, do even still more F-Bombs and foul language makes it even better?
Which scene was your favorite?
The extremely few in which the story stood on its own without extremely foul language.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
no.

an unexpected ending
well that ending wasn't what I expected, I began to think the story was weird since everyone just dissapeared and I didn't knew what to think, they werent zombies and neither have gone to heaven for what it seemed and then they appeared in the place i would less expected really.
what is more creppy they appeared at some point and that made the story terrifying, a worth terror tale.

What did you like best about FREE Yesterday's Gone: Season 1 - Episode 1? What did you like least?
It was free which was great and it's an interesting story line but it drags on and takes forever to get to the actual point.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
I didn't like the ending especially after how long it took to get there.
What about the narrators’s performance did you like?
The narrator was great, very clear and loud enough and didn't go too fast.
If this book were a film would you go see it?

Great story , characters and VERY great narrators!
What made the experience of listening to FREE Yesterday's Gone: Season 1 - Episode 1 the most enjoyable?
I enjoyed this stories introduction, I get the sense we are in for an epic. having just finished Swan Song by Robert Mccammon I was ready for that kind of world again, with well written and believable characters acted by professional voice actors, set in a post apocalyptic world.
What was one of the most memorable moments of FREE Yesterday's Gone: Season 1 - Episode 1?
The incredibly well written surreal child's eye point of view of the world of the character Luca
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The opening scenes in New York.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Lucas plight alone in this strange empty world
Any additional comments?
The choosing of having multiple voice narrators is an excellent move, and works very well.
It works but thankfully is Unlike a dramatisation , it gives greater reality to each person.
But I would prefer if male and female characters were actually played by males or females
As that one thing is usually what can lack when having one voice actor, and it seems a waste and counter productive not using male voices for males and females for females with such a great talented cast.
I also agree that having Luca play the voice of older characters is wrong
I was tricked by this at first but then discovered it was Maxwell doing the older voice
Surely maxwell should be doing the other younger voices, the male teens?
Anyway apart form that I think the who enterprise is so professionally done I can't really complain, as such attention and effort to get narrators for each role right is so rare.
So I have nothing but positive things to say about ALL the narrators and as for others saying change them, that is plainly ridiculous! As I have never heard a audio book casted so perfectly .

A great start.
This ia a great read and I cannot wait to get stuck into the rest of season one. But beware, this book is not for the faint of heart. It is a tale of bad people doing bad things and the wording and discription of some of those things is truely eye opening at times. If you like post apocalyptic stories told in a fantastic way with stunning performances throughout the voice cast then this should be an instant buy for you.

Unique.
I found this book to be a completely entertaining listen. I cant think of another book which has pulled me in the way that this did. Something else I liked was the unique way the story was written. So I would recommend this book.

An enticing freebie prelude to the novel
Intriguing and well performed by the different narrators. But the biggest hook is the mystery of this story. The characters react differently to the death of their old lives. Some mourn for earth as they know it, others don't. But many questions remain unanswered - the watcher for one. Another reviewer compared this story to King's the Stand, and can see how these parallels have been drawn, as I have read this epic tale myself. I hope this story differs from King, but have downloaded the Kindle version of this book to find out.

Ensured I HAD to Hear the Rest of The Story
If you could sum up FREE Yesterday's Gone: Season 1 - Episode 1 in three words, what would they be?
Intriguing, fantastical storytelling.
What did you like best about this story?
The array of characters. Though it can be initially a bit disorientating jumping from one character to next without knowing who they are (or what happens to them at the end of a scenario) you quickly get used to it.
This form of character story jumping then keeps the story intriguing and mixes up the pace enough to keep you from pressing the stop button.
Have you listened to any of the narrators’s other performances? How does this one compare?
All the narrators are top notch. I'm a big fan of R.C. Bray but I have to say that the narrator performing the voice of the serial killer, though initially creating a "wtf" reaction, is truly excellent - with the help of excellent writing the performer creates a truly believable 3-dimensional character.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The end pi**ed me off cuz I now need to know what happens next!
Any additional comments?
I think this type of marketing is very clever - giving away part of a book or a prequel charter for free. I first encountered it with the Mountain Man saga which lead me to buy all the books in the series while simultaneously introducing me to an entirely new genre. This will probably have the same effect as I am definitely going to get the first series in its entirety.

Too many characters
Lost interest as the fifth or sixth protagonist was introduced. Too many perspectives on the same thing happening plus the irritation of one of them being a young child with the reader putting on a goo goo voice. Didn't win me over

Language please !!!
The story is good, the performances good, but do you really have to include swearing. I know it is a normal part of some peoples vocabulary, but there are still some of us that don't swear and do find it offensive.

pointless and just weird.
why just write a ton of 5 minute starts? i thought it was going to be cool until i realised i was being introduced to a million characters and then that's it. no story.

I tried
So mind numbing lying boring. Just went from person to person attempting to build suspension but only succeeding in creating an air of "who cares? "

Intriguing
Interesting story line, I think I will continue listening. Some of the narrators are better than others, one in particular I find quite annoying with weird inflections and pauses, but most are quite good. Definitely worth a listen, hard to go wrong with a free book!
