Story
My muse is gone, and I haven’t written a word of music in more than a year. Every time I close my eyes, all I can see is Dawson. Nine years ago, just before Downward Spiral’s first major tour, I met my soul mate, and then I walked away. Now that I’ve finally tracked him down again, things have changed. I’ll have to make him fall for me all over again. But is it possible I put our single weekend together on a pedestal, or could Dawson really be the one?

Story
I never thought a night out could change everything. All I wanted was to dance, drink, maybe take a cute guy home for a night of fun. I met the guy, but the night ended as a nightmare. Screams and blood and tragedy haunt my dreams. I'm alive and I owe it all to the gorgeous marine who refused to leave me for dead. But how can I start a new relationship when I'm not even sure who I am anymore?

When half your face is covered in a big, blotchy birthmark, you get used to the staring and the whispers. You get used to feeling unwanted. Until he walks into my bar.... Tall, gorgeous, and all kinds of out of place. And the way he looks at me ain’t like no way I've ever seen before.

The last thing I want is another relationship or another broken heart. All I need are my bees and the occasional hookup to scratch the itch. Okay, maybe meeting up with my hot contractor weekly is a little more than occasional. And maybe the way I’m starting to feel about the guy I’ve been anonymously chatting with online should concern me. But CaulkyAF doesn’t want to meet, and Cole doesn’t want anything serious, so what’s the worst that could happen?

Milo. Unusual. Quirky. Different. I’ve heard it all. I’ve accepted I’m not for everyone. When I find out I inherited a bookstore and apartment on a small East Coast island, I jump at the chance for a new life. Turns out I’ve also inherited a sexy, tattooed guy who not only rents the space next to my store but my apartment too. Gideon. I wasn’t looking for a roommate, but it’s not like I can stay at Milo’s place while he’s banished to a hotel. According to Milo, we’re bestie goals. I’ve been living under storm clouds since my honorable discharge, but Julian’s the sun. I’ve tried everything to deal with my PTSD, but nothing seemed to help. So when my brother suggests a service dog, I figure I don’t have anything to lose. The last thing I expect is for the dog to come with a cheerful, quirky trainer I can’t get out of my head. I’m too screwed up for love, but a chance to explore a side of myself I didn’t realize existed until recently is too good to pass up.

I've been in love with my best friend since forever. Okay, fine. Like, kindergarten. It started out platonic, obviously, but then became.... Nope. Still platonic. The problem is that Parker Ellis has been straight since forever. And that makes it difficult to convince him that the two of us are meant to be together. And now, there's no point. All is lost. He's gone and gotten engaged to his high-school sweetheart - which means I have to grin and bear it, while pretending to be the happy, supportive best man, while he prepares to commit his life to a woman.

I spent college worrying about responsibilities and earning my teaching degree, so before graduation and moving to Atlanta with my best friend, Ross, I figure I deserve a little fun. I’ve never been with an older man, but the guy at the bar grabs my attention and doesn’t let go…for multiple rounds, all night long. The next day, when Ross introduces me to his dad, the last thing I expect is for him to be my hookup from the night before, in town from Atlanta for his son’s graduation. The best thing would be to pretend it never happened, which is easier said than done.

When it comes to hockey, I'm all about the game. I've worked for years to be one of the best in the league, and l've done it without splashing my orientation all over the tabloids. My hockey image is one I've carefully cultivated, and after one night with Ezra Palaszczuk, I risk it all. He's cocky, obnoxious, and has an ego bigger than Massachusetts. And okay, maybe he's the sexiest man I've ever known. We'll never get along. Not when we sleep together. Not even when my possessive streak awakens. That doesn't stop us from falling into bed together over and over again.

The job at Sunday Orchard was supposed to be temporary. A chance to gain some work experience, to have some fun. I had not expected to be welcomed into a family of gorgeous and weirdly efficient lumberjack-types, or to find purpose in the tiny Vermont town whose claim to fame seemed to be apple-based products and copious amounts of charm. And I most definitely hadn’t expected to fall for Knox Sunday, my grumpy, burly, fifteen-years-older, reluctant roommate, with his infuriating lectures, his hot-as-fire body, his superior attitude - I’ve never been one to put down roots.

Publisher's Summary
Lincoln
I thought there was only one thing I needed to make me happy. I was so sure becoming a rock star would heal the dark corners inside me. But every time I walk onto the stage, with a roaring crowd screaming my name, all I can think about is the boy I left behind. All I want to do is rewind and make a different choice.
Jace
I thought I hated Lincoln when he ghosted me 10 years ago and destroyed my heart. I thought I hated him when he wrote a chart-topping hit about our idyllic young love. But I’ve never hated him as much as I do right now, standing in front of me like he has every right to be in my world again. He’s not the rock god I thought he was...he’s still that same lost boy I used to love. Can I ever trust him with my heart again?
*Face the Music is the first book in the Replay series. Each book in the series will focus on a different band member getting a second chance at love. Each book can be read as a stand-alone. This book contains descriptions of self-harm, suicidal thoughts, and sexy times.

Loved the story, so so narration
I essence, I absolutely loved and adored this story. I'm always partial for a scarred man, second chance stories and when combining that with a famous musician, I'm over the moon.
This book opens up with present day Lincoln, rock star extraordinaire in the band Downward Spiral. An apt name if there ever was one as all of its members are spiralling fast out of control in one way or another. Lincoln is a bit worse for wear, drunk and passing out in the cold and almost freezing to death. He basically couldn't care less. He's numb, and the only way he feels anything is by self-harming, cutting. The only thing in his mind is remembering Jace. The love of his life. The boy he walked away from, broke, ten years earlier when his music career really took off.
After another close call with Linc's life, Archer the band manager, cancels the upcoming tour, orders all the band members to a mandatory break to get their heads back together And hopefully by the end of the break, there will still be a band left to save. Linc decides to go back to the one place in the world where he was truly happy, the place where he met and fell in love with Jace. What he doesn't count on is standing face to face with Jace once more. A freshly dumped Jace who don't want anything to do with him anymore.
Face the Music is a second chance story. It's told from a dual POV in more ways than one. We get both Linc's and Jace's perspectives, but we also get the past interwoven with the present. So we are there watching Linc and Jace fall in love, the first kiss, we feel the sweetness, the giddiness and hope for the future. But we are also there for the hard parts, Linc leaving and Jace realising that the love of his life has left him. We are there for the pain as well as the happiness before it. We can relate to them both, understand the motives that drove them. We understand the heartbreak that are still present ten years later. We know the love that lurks underneath the surface, ready to bloom once more.
This book drew me in from the start and I couldn't put it down but listened to the whole thing in one go. I just needed to know how Linc and Jace finally got back together. Needed to see the journey, the forgiveness and healing. I'm also partial to characters with any kind of mental health issue, to Linc ticked a lot of my boxes. And while I didn't always agree with his actions, I could understand why.
Kenneth Obi's narration of this book is a bit of an oddity for me. He has different voices when narrating the different characters - which is always a huge plus for me. It makes it so much easier to follow along with the story. He also adds in feelings to his words, emotions and is not simply reading the words in front of him. Despite all that, he still manages to sound bored though it all. It's a bit of a mystery to me to be frank. On the other hand, that would fit when he narrated the fist part of the story from Lincoln's POV. It fits with his depressed, moody and "who cares" attitude. But it doesn't fit with the rest of the book, when the feel of it is happy. I did feel like even during the happy moments, there was still a wall between the characters and the listener, we weren’t quite there.
Face the Music was a beautiful second chance story. I loved everything about it, the plot, the characters and the amazing love that Linc and Jace shared. The narration was a bit off for me, which might be just me, so you should definitely have a listen to the sample to decide if this audio is worth trying. If not, you need to pick up the book, because this is a story you shouldn't miss.

Unrealistic separation but overall OK
Not exactly my cup of tea but the engaging narration made it palatable and enjoyable enough that I actually finished the story. The story is interesting and not boring, but have a little too much angst for my taste. It really DID NOT make sense to me that Lincoln just left Jace (and went so far as to disconnect the phone) and they did not meet each other for 10 years!!! How Linc survived for 10 years with his problem is simply unbelievable!

This book is definitely near and dear to my heart. No one understands how hard it is to love someone with bipolar disorder. Ms. Neuhold, you managed to give a voice to the person that has to witness the highs and lows. Thank you! Plus, their love is epic!!

Going Back
I love the way fate has brought these men back together after all these years. I was so glad when Jace really understood why Linc did what he did in the past. I also love the honest look at the issues Linc is having. I'm really excited about starting this new series. I can't wait to start out the next book in the series.

Second chance romance
This is book one of a new series and I have read the book so I am aware of the trigger warnings and the level of angst.
I love K.M. Nuehold as an author. She has done an outstanding job of describing Linc's highs and lows.
This is full of angst but its so well written and narrated. K.M. Neuhold has been extremely respectful when writing about mental illness.

Second Chance with Love
Face the Music is the first book in the Replay series, a contemporary romance series revolving around the members in the band Downward Spiral. This book deals with heavy issues and I suggest readers check out the trigger warnings to determine if this is the right book for them. I really liked this book and found it touching.
Lincoln is the singer for Downward Spiral, a poplar band on the verge of destruction. Lincoln himself is self-destructing, but a vacation to his family cottage reunites him with his long, lost love. Jace has been resentful of Lincoln for breaking his heart all those years ago, but even though he keeps telling himself to keep Lincoln at arms length, Jace can’t help falling in love with Lincoln all over again. This was a beautiful story with a lot of angst and sorrow, which ended with a lovely happy ending. I also liked how it introduced the overall arching plot line that connected each book. Due to this series plotline I highly suggest reading all these books in order.

A beautifully heartbreaking portrayal of what it’s like to struggle with mental illness
I love K.M. Nuehold’s writing, but this story has become my absolute favorite. She does an amazing job describing the feelings and emotions that go through a person’s mind when struggling to accept their diagnosis, especially when having had negative experiences with another person who has the same. The romance genre gets a lot of flack for having vapid cheesy stories, but Face the Music proves that is not the case. Forewarning: there are triggering scenes, but I feel Neuhold handled them in a respectful and careful manner, not vilifying mental illness. This is a beautiful story and I highly recommend it!

3.5 stars - decent easy listen
This was an easy listen with a nice romance. Characters were decent and I enjoyed the story. It wasn’t overly memorable, but what stood it apart from other romance books was the mental health aspect which gave added depth. Would have been good if there was an overall plot line as well as the characters’ relationship to make the book more engaging.

Slow start but gets amazing.
This is the first book I have read and heard from this author, I love Kenneth Obi, I was going to give it’s four stars until half way through, as the beginning is really slow and Kenneth reads slowly, I don’t no if this is what the author wanted or Kenneth style for this book, but found it a bit annoyingly, however once the dialogue starts the pace picks up, and Kenneth is back to his amazing self and is brilliant, hence the five stars instead of four. Kenneth choice of voice for the characters was brilliant, especially liked Jace’s
The story is a second chance story, I felt the story took awhile to get into as there was a lot of repetition in theme. However the story blasts off at about the half way point and is amazing, the illness discussed in the story is brilliantly handled and shines light on something that is misunderstood by society.
Lincoln is a likeable guy and although I was upset with him for leaving Jace I can understand why he did, Although agree with Jace, I loved Jace and glad he didn’t just fall at Lincoln’s feet. I need to read the rest of the series and see what happens to the other band members and the band!!!!

A replay
This is a story about first loves, broken promises and wishing for replay. After 10 years Linc and Jace meet again at the cabin at the lake where they spent their summers with their family and where they found love. But a record contract drove them apart and Jace is still bitter about the broken promises. At the time Linc didn't want to make Jace lose out on becoming a doctor and therefore sneaked away in the early morning without a goodbye. 10 years later he still can't forget the boy he left behind and all the music and richess can't make up for his loss. Like the bands name, he's in a down spiral. Can he make Jace understand the reason he left and that he wants to make up for his mistake and show him this time that he will keep his promises? This book contains selfharm. It's the first of the series about the members of a rockband, who after 10 years living with strangling contracts, leaving everything behind and struggle with their own identity and lost loves. Beautiful narrated by Kenneth Obi.

Emotional
This book squeezed my heart and chest. I felt all the emotions, fear, hope, anxiety, numbness and love. The heartachingly scary love and the easy, warm, relaxed love.
Kenneth makes it go live!

Favorite of the series
Book one was my favorite. I really connected with both of the guys and felt their struggles, both individually and when they were considering the risks of second chances. I loved how the author didn't fall into the trap of allowing thier getting back together fix all of their personal issues and I thought she handled the subject matter really well.
Kenneth did a great job with these guys and this is one of my favorites he's done!!

Heartbreakingly beautiful story from Neuhold + Obi
Wow, I don't think I was expecting such a hard hitting character as Lincoln along with everything that he is going through, especially in the first book of a new series. K.M. Neuhold definitely starts Replay off with a bang and, damn, it's worth reading/listening to.
My heart was attached to Lincoln right from the start and Jace is his perfect match with how he brings light to the man's life, though with how he left when they were younger, it's going to take a lot of healing and forgiveness for their friendship and relationship to recover.
This is a beautifully told tale that includes heartbreak, mental illness and self harm which could possibly be a trigger for some but for those able to read, I think it helps to shine a light on people who go through these times and what they experience mentally and physically. Kyleen's writing really brings to light how relationships and interaction can help and how important they are. Lincoln and Jace's is hard fought and tough going at times but worth every moment of your time.
Kenneth Obi does a brilliant job in bringing these characters to life. Providing a voice for both men must have been hard with all that occurs in the book but everything was believable and I just needed to keep listening to find out what happened for both men, individually and together. The emotion was conveyed perfectly in both good times and bad for all characters, not just the MC's.
I'm now diving straight into book 2! This series has me hooked :-)
