Publisher's Summary

For her, it was love at first sight. For him, love wasn't an option.

Twenty years ago, Gracie Cartwright became the first prom queen in the history of Pecan Orchard High School to be stood up. Now, she's on a mission to plan the ultimate high school reunion and get the prom night she always envisioned. All she has to do is find the perfect date.

But after going on 35 blind dates, she's losing hope that she'll find Mr. Right or, at least, Mr. Right Now. Then, Brooks Hamilton, the man she knew she was meant to marry, walks into her spa for a facial massage. Too bad she's never forgiven him for standing her up at prom all those years ago. If that isn't enough, she finds out he's dating her nemesis, and he's a divorce lawyer who doesn't believe in marriage. And what's worse is, he doesn't recognize her.

However, when Brooks' estranged father falls ill, the pair are thrown together, and sparks fly when the old friends butt heads about almost everything. But despite the tension, it doesn't take long for Brooks to recognize that maybe he made a huge mistake letting Gracie go all those years ago. But is it enough for him to let his guard down and admit he was wrong about relationships and give Gracie the prom night she always dreamed of? Or, will they miss out on the love that's been right in front of their faces the entire time?

Second chance at love 20 years later

Holy Crow!! Where do I begin with this review?!! I hadn't had a Jennifer Peel fix in awhile and when the opportunity to listen to the audiobook came up, I took it--I'm no fool. Not only did I love the story of Grace and Brooks, but I loved the narrator. Being born and raised in the deep south, I felt she had the right amount of southern drawl and a whole lot of southern sass.

Twenty years after high school graduation, Grace is doing well. She and her best friends have their own business, she has a wonderful relationship with her father, and though she's still single, she's happy going on weekly blind dates set up by her friends. That is, until the guy she was in love with in high school, whom she hasn't seen in 20 years, comes in for a facial and he doesn't recognize her AT ALL!! Not even a little!

Brooks Hamilton is not the man Grace knew in high school. This man is arrogant, calls his father Tom, and he's a divorce attorney who doesn't believe in marriage. He still hasn't forgiven his father for the affair and his parents' divorce which followed. Oh, and he's dating Grace's nemesis from high school. He's got so many strikes against him, I was surprised Grace gave him the time of day.

I loved Grace's attitude towards her life. She didn't apologize for living at home with her father, and if it wasn't for her Brooks' dad would've probably died. I especially liked when she would give Brooks a piece of her mind when he acted snooty or said something stupid. She didn't take all that hoity toity stuff from him--like calling his father Tom, not eating sugar because his girlfriend said so, and going to TED talks instead of spending time with his father while he was in the hospital. There were so many times I wanted to Gibbs slap Brooks I could've given him a concussion.

This story was all fiesty banter and funny inner dialogue. There were some serious issues these two needed to work through. I think Grace should've made Brooks work even harder than he did--I mean he had been a major jerk and needed to make up for that. I loved Grace's friends--Colette and Lorelai, and hope to see more of them.

I really, really liked the narrator.

G&B forever!

I loved this story as a book and I loved revisiting it again as an audio book. Even though I’d read it, it’s always amazing how different things stand out in the audio version. Gracie and Brooks are just as fantastic as ever. I love the chemistry and how Grace’s sassy personality contrasts with Brooks more broody one. Another fantastic story from Peel!

Oh Crow...so good!!

Jennifer Peel’s stories never disappoint!! They make me laugh and cheer for the characters as they navigate some of life’s hardships. In Facial Recognition Grace falls in love with Brooks at first sight but life doesn’t go how she hoped. Years later they reconnect and have a second chance to work through past heartache. Grace is darling and you can’t help but hope Brooks becomes the man he was meant to be. While the book is a lovely escape it left me wanting to be more like Gracie!! To be comfortable with myself and live life free of others expectations. Definitely worth listening to this book.

Holy Crow this Book is Fabulous!

Jennifer Peel's books are all amazing and she always has a way of capturing beauty in all the feelings and emotions her stories bring forth. Facial Recognition is one of my favorites! Gracie and Brooks story hit the spot with its wit, humor, emotional moments, and relatability. The narrator, Allyson Voller had a magical way of bringing the characters of Facial Recognition to life. I felt like I was a part of Pecan Orchard while listening to this book. I laughed so hard, especially as Gracie's hilarious inner dialougue and witty comebacks were vocalized. I recommend listening to this one! You won't want to stop. It is that good!

FANTASTIC!

I feel like I've been saying this a lot lately but, where do I start with this review?!

One of the best feelings in the world is seeing one of your favorite authors release their newest book baby. I'm not going to lie, this girl right here did all kinds of squealing and happy dancing around her bedroom while cancelling any and all plans that would take away from reading this book. I knew the moment I picked it up, I would not be putting it down until I finished it. Somewhere between the beginning and ending of chapter one, I was transported to Pecan Orchard where I was able to immerse myself in all things Gracie and Brooks.

I felt an instant connection to Gracie. She and I could bond over bad first dates. One of my bad dates involved Disneyland, chicken and my little purse. Long story. But I still remember driving away from his house, waving goodbye and smiling at him while saying under my breath... no wonder you're divorced. You're poor ex-wife. And don't even get me started on the guy who's divorce wasn't final (he slipped and mentioned it) who tried to order my food for me because what I chose wasn't "healthy" enough for him. The jerk wouldn't even let me get dessert. How rude is that?! Buuuuuut... I digress. Gracie is one of the best heroines ever. It should come as no surprise that she quickly became one of my favorites. We could all use a Gracie in our lives!

While I loved Gracie instantly, Brooks was a different story. It took a little while for me to warm up to him. I lost count of how many times I wanted to Gibbs slap the man upside the head with a cast iron skillet. To say he knew how to push my buttons is an understatement. But once he stopped being a putz and started opening up, I found myself slowly falling in love with him as well. Even though I really dislike everything he did, I understood his reasons why. Love, patience and forgiveness play a huge role for both Brooks and Gracie. Their story is heartachingly beautiful and I loved every minute of it.

The thing that made this already amazing book even better is the side characters. Y'all they had me busting out laughing at times. They said and did all the right things when it came to Gracie. They were hilarious and so fun! I'm glad we have two more books in this series. I'm nowhere near ready to say goodbye to my new best friends!

Y'all, I can always count on Ms. Peel to deliver a phenomenal book. She really knows how to write a good love story that will have you feeling all the feels and thinking about all the characters long after your close the book. I don't know about you, but I look forward to reading her books over and over and over again. It's no wonder she's one of my favorite authors. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next!

Just Okay

I love Jennifer Peel’s work but this book fell a little short for me. Brooks and Grace knew each other when they were high school. Grace felt from the time they were in high school that Brooks was made for her. Due to life, they have not seen each other in many years. As we get to know Brooks I honestly could not stand him. He needed to get a backbone so much earlier in the book. It was just so hard for me to root for Grace and Brooks because Brooks was no I likeable to me. Excited to read another Jennifer Peel book since I think this is an outlier for her usual work.

Sweet, Clean Romance

Jennifer Peel does it again with Facial Recognition! This book is sweet and spicy while still being a clean romance. Brooks and Grace are relatable and intelligent characters. I loved getting to know Grace’s sweet, spunky side while she planned her high school reunion and gave Brooks a run for his money!
