Publisher's Summary

There’s no police training stronger than a cop’s instinct. Faith Mitchell’s mother isn’t answering her phone. Her front door is open. There’s a bloodstain above the knob. Her infant daughter is hidden in a shed behind the house. All that the Georgia Bureau of Investigations taught Faith Mitchell goes out the window when she charges into her mother’s house, gun drawn. She sees a man dead in the laundry room. She sees a hostage situation in the bedroom. What she doesn’t see is her mother....

“You know what we’re here for. Hand it over, and we’ll let her go.”

When the hostage situation turns deadly, Faith is left with too many questions and not enough answers. To find her mother, she’ll need the help of her partner, Will Trent, and they’ll both need the help of trauma doctor Sara Linton. But Faith isn’t just a cop anymore - she’s a witness. She’s also a suspect.

The thin blue line hides police corruption, bribery, even murder. Faith will have to go up against the people she respects the most in order to find her mother and bring the truth to light - or bury it forever.

Karin Slaughter’s most exhilarating novel yet is a thrilling journey through the heart and soul, where the personal and the criminal collide, and conflicted loyalties threaten to destroy reputations and ruin lives. It is the work of a master of the thriller at the top of her game, and a whirlwind of unrelenting suspense.

I love Will Trent!!

I love this series! I’m listening to them in order and I enjoy seeing how the characters are growing and meshing. That being said, if I find out that I have to wait 2 more books before Angie Polaski dies a horrible, painful, drawn out and lonely death...I’m jumping ahead! Screw order! I hate her so much!!

The weakest in the series so far

I have been listening to the Will Trent series back to back since I discovered it. Every book reveals a little more about the characters, especially Will, and it has engrossed me. However, this book seemed to fall completely flat, I just couldn’t make myself care about the story line or the characters. Too many new random characters without enough backstory. Random drug related crimes are so prevalent in reality that I wasn’t on edge wondering what the reveal/twist would be like I normally am, I was just wondering why they weren’t considering that to be honest. I’ve already started Criminal, the next in the series, and it’s one of the BEST so far so I know it’s just this book and not the series getting weaker as it goes on. Actually, the next book is half set back in Evelyn and Amanda’s beginning days and would’ve made me care about Evelyn a whole lot more if this book came later in the series.

Betrayed, 2nd Best

This re recording with Ms Early as the narrator was great as she captures what author intended in this mystery. I have read a few of this authors books eg Triptych, Undone and could not sleep for days, so watch which story you select!
This story has the least terrorizing descriptions so if you want to try this author, then this one is great.
All the short stories in Will Trent series are great ,no gore.

Criminal is my fave as that features Amanda, some gore but not too graphic This one is Faith and Evelyn story and a definite re listen story.
Love the author introduction as she explains herself and the progression of her writing.
Not nuts about Angie character, and waited for reviews on The Kept Woman, Outstanding story, not to be missed.
In this story I loverd Jeramys character:
Ate His weight in Macaroni and cheese everyday!
This story Has lots of humor, but must watch for it.
Early is Karin voice and narrates as author intended. Hence the very smart decision to re record earlier stories using this narrator.
Were my comments of help to you?

Enjoyable

I generally do not write reviews but since I have listened to or read Karin Slaughter’s Grant County Series and half of the Will Trent series I thought I would.

I really enjoy these books. I personally enjoy the characters and getting to know them, wondering what will happen to them in future books. I like finding out the answers to the secrets that are eluded to. I enjoy Kathleen Early as the narrator as well, her voice is easy to listen to and does a good job with the characters. There have been some other narrators that did not do as well.

I enjoy the stories and find portions of them funny while the serious aspect is still there. I find when I am listening to these books I have a hard time pushing pause or stop because I want to know what happens next. This is what I look for in the books I listen to or read. I want to take some time out of my own life and be entertained by the story and that is what I find with Karin Slaughter’s books.

Nicely tied up.

I thought I had started this series at the beginning, but there have been a lot of references to an earlier case. Those references are tied up nicely in this book. I also liked the performance. She wasn't doing impressions, but her voice changed nicely between characters.

Just okay

This was my least favorite so far in the Will Trent group. It read a little like an NCIS episode. Also...It's time for Angie to die already!

Too implausible for me

It was ok, but implausible. One character gets suspended after an officer involved shooting, as one would expect. Not long after, two others in the same organization are involved in another shooting, but they continue working. The story didn't improve after that.

Fast Pace and Compelling Story

Loved the way it moved with speed and kept you sucked in. I also love that this is the book finally mostly bringing Will and Sara together. Of course nothing with that love story is smooth or easy or fully resolved in one book. Go figure. This series has me hooked!

Love Will Trent

I really love Karen's writing style. It's very intricate and no matter how carefully I think I listen...she always manages to surprise me. she pays great attention to police work - it's a slow process not involving magic gadgets. Her characters do it the old fashioned, right way. I've come to absolutely love Will! All the characters have depths but Will is the most intricate one.

Best one so far!

I couldn’t wait to get back to listening. ! Wonderful character development. So many twists and turns and clues and yet I still didn’t figure out the mystery until it was revealed at the end.
