Publisher's Summary

Two brothers. One accused of a horrific crime. The other chasing a golden future. And an attorney navigating between both.

Fresh off his latest case, Attorney Nate Shepherd takes in some local high school football, hoping that a Friday night under the lights will give him a chance to relax with his family. It does - until the quarterback’s brother is arrested in the middle of the game.

Nate jumps in to represent the brother, who stands accused of a crime far worse than anyone imagined. As the internet rains fury down on his new client and a merciless prosecutor maneuvers to put the young man away, Nate scrambles to find out what happened and why. But no one, anywhere, seems to be telling him the whole truth.

Nate struggles to build a defense, unwinding a spool of facts that threatens to spill over into his own family’s lives. And with each revelation, the conflict grows until a new danger arises.

Will their secrets tear the brothers apart?

False Oath is the fourth book in the gripping Nate Shepherd Legal Thriller series. If you like razor-sharp dialogue, iron-willed characters, and slippery moral quandaries, then you’ll love Michael Stagg’s fierce courtroom drama.

ID like to hear Michael’s evaluation of the OJ Simpson trial.

I like this authors detail of how the inter-workings of the legal system. It is also inspiring to hear stories of hard working intelligent people of both sides of a given case.

Enthralling

I found book four, "False Oath" in the "Nate Shepherd Legal Thrillers" to be engaging, rousing, entertaining, and thrilling. Author Michael Stagg is one of my favorites, and I always look forward to more of his works. Also, one of my favorite narrators is George Newbern, so this is a win-win.

I love this author

I really love this author, books are intelligent with dabs of humor. The main character and his family and friends seem real and relatable. also I think the narrator makes it work. that is such an important part of audio books.

All his books are great!

This is excellent book. The author is very good at describing legal issues and processes. This Story has something for everyone. They are very believable and interesting to the reader.

George Newborn, the narrator , is fabulous! I’ve listen to many audiobooks and this is one of the best narrators I’ve ever heard. He has a great way of telling story, his character voices are wonderful, and he just does an overall superb job of narrating the very intricate legal novel.

I highly recommend the series of books by Michael Stagg if you’re looking for another series Of legal thrillers to listen to.

Doesn’t really move along

I purchased this because of the high star rating. My overall opinion - Author gives a lot of good detail building the story and solid character building. However, it’s disappointing if you are expecting a crime novel. It’s halfway through the story and the lawyer has yet to take a statement from the accused, and hasn’t even talked to the witnesses who were at the scene. The lawyer has time to sit through numerous football games, go to bars, chow some food, yet can’t find the time to question family members about the deceased. I understand spending time setting the scene, but the book is already halfway done.

What’s disturbing is that he knows his clients and his client’s family are lying about a larger subplot, yet he hasn’t confronted them about it to get to the bottom of it. The main character seems content in raking his leaves, putting things off, and kicking the can down the road than wanted to get to the bottom of things and figuring it out.

Throughout the story, I kept thinking “what wrong with this guy? He needs to grow a set of balls and do something.” His lack of assertive behavior is disappointing for an attorney defending against a homicide charge. I would be horrified if I was charged with murder and my attorney was so lackluster.

Another trip to the mid-west

Another well-crafted Nate Shepherd story with unexpected twists and turns. Enjoyable time with (American) football jocks and gentle, tough characters. Well paced, for the most part, although a bit too much happened in the final chapter. I had some questions left over but the author had clearly had enough by Chapter 59 - once the main story was finished. Can’t wait for the next in the series - thank you Mr Stagg.

Nate going from strength to strength.

Most enjoyable of the first four Nate thrillers (enjoyed the others too). An interesting plot with a satisfactory conclusion that helped to further develop Nate's world and it's characters. Nice intersprinkling of humour helped to make the relationships feel real and create a connection. Superb voice narration again (as has been the case in all other Nate tales) and I comfortably recommend this to fans of the other Nate books or legal thrillers that aren't overly heavy handed with legal jargon or self importance.
