Publisher's Summary

Smart men quit while they’re ahead - they lay low and hope disaster blows on by them. Not me. Especially when disaster seems to follow me and my soulmate Havoc, a demon I bound to me 300 years ago with my magic.

The dark mage Geoff is back from the dead and creating chaos by devouring the hearts of people with magical abilities, giving him overwhelming power as his followers grow. And since I’m one of the strongest mages alive and am leading the resistance against him, he’s coming for me next. Oh, and it might have something to do with the fact that I was also the one who originally killed him. But you can’t blame me; the guy needed to die.

Havoc and I, along with our unlikely band of...(I don’t want to say heroes, I can’t give them that much credit) annoyances will stop at nothing to end the destruction. It doesn’t hurt that there’s a sexy demon by my side every step of the way. For the first time in 300 years, I’m finally with the person meant for me, and I will do anything to keep from losing him.

Familiar Beginnings is a 63k word sequel to Happy Endings. Contains a powerful mage who just wants to be left in peace, a mysterious curly-haired troublemaker, gargoyles that are literally dumber than stone, a river trip that doesn’t feel at all like a vacation, and a “cat” with some unusual features and deadly claws.

Love love love it!!!!

This was a fun series! The characters are great and unique. I wish there were more books coming in the series. I’m sure there are more adventures they could get up to. The “cat” was a Menace that made me laugh so hard!!!! If you like fictional beings you’ll love this.

I LOVE this series

I want more of this series! I LOVE the characters - Alice writes such great group interactions. I love the sass and snark and dynamics. I really think that Alice is an author whose works need to be truly enjoyed in audio format. The narrators she picks really brings the characters to life and you get to hear all that snark and hilarity. HIGHLY recommend this series!

Another great one!

I loved this book, honestly I wish there was more, but the ending was great.

Dear author, please make a short spin off about sam and ava. It would be the cherry on top to see the humor between them bloom.

I Love This Sequel

Familiar Beginnings is the second book in the Demon Magic series, and it was just as good as the first book. Now Havoc and Miles are an established couple, which is important because powerful forces threatened them and their happiness. Despite this danger, their relationship remains strong. I love their banter and sarcasm – it’s the perfect balance for the seriousness of the plot. The audiobook was well done and I absolutely loved listening to this story.

Nice conclusion to the two book series. My thoughts on the book run pretty similar to book one. I love the wit though I wish it was more standardized than sex centered. Love the characters. Best narrator ever.

Perfect Pairing of Author and Narrator

I was introduced to Alice Winters when I read The Hitman's Guide series and instantly fell in love with the characters and unique storytelling. This series is another hit for me, fun snarky paranormal beings and shenanigans that make you laugh out loud. A romance that isn't your standard hearts and flowers insta-love but born of hundreds of years, of forced proximity and mutual irritation. I'd say they Stockholmed each other and the results make for epic reading.

Just as great as book 1

Sweet, hilarious and I want the Cat. Great narrator. Great story writing. Both books were fantastic. A few steamy scenes but not too many.

A mess

While I generally enjoy Alice Winter's tales, this book was a mess of cliches. Yes, there were some funny, snarky moments, but they could not save this book for me. There was nothing original in the story, just a bunch of paranormal story cliches thrown together with far too many characters. The last hour and a half felt like she was desperate to get the story finished no matter how it was cobbled together. A big disappointment, despite the great narration.

really enjoyed both the first and second books. Funny dry humour, well read and entertaining. I'll be trying some other books by this author.

The story and the narrator are just awesome! Characterisation is brilliant and I found myself grinning like a maniac most of the way through. I can recommend reading the books too, as well as listening to them. Fab!

Awesome

Greg does these characters so well, the inflictions and emotion into his voices adds another wonderful dimension. This book is awesome, I loved this edition and hope that it’s not the last. I adore Etienne and Leo. Alice needs to make more books, I love that Miles can share and relive memories especially with Havoc and the way that they use this as an escape from their problems and a way to bond as a couple it’s really lovely. Evan is so wonderful odd. I had a cat very similar to Menace and now have questions. It was great to see the gang again. Reread list for sure.

As good as book one.

The same great characters with some fun additions. Great sense of humour. I've read many of Alice Winters books, I love the humour and the fun characters. She has great way of making seemingly evil characters the heroes and always makes me laugh. Some moving moments to. An enjoyable story with excellent narration by Greg Boudreaux.

A great second book

I loved this book, the humour, the pacing and character building along with a sweet ending made this a lovely listen for me. If you liked the first book ( you really need to have read the first book to follow this one) you will love this one too. I do so hope there will be more in this series

More crazy fun added to th mix

A lovely end to my favorite duo and the gang. There's even a new crazy person and an unexpected pet added to this mix. I was looking forward to the audio for months and i am i liked this one too.
This was fun to listen to and Greg Bordeaux did a wonderful job of narrating this book.
I recommend you start from book one and finish up with this
