What on Earth is this book?

Initially I thought it was standard chick lit with a weight loss story. I've lost a lot of weight myself and enjoyed seeing some similarities. I would have preferred the character to have faced some challenges during her weight loss journey but it seemed like an easy enough feat for her in the end.

Around half way through this book seems to jump from being a chick lit to a thriller, which wasn't what I wanted to read. I wanted something easy going, but this absolutely terrible main character is so self-obsessed, jealous, constantly lying, spiteful, criminally insane, to name a few. I have nearly finished but I am so sick of her self-pitying attitude and ruining people's lives over literally nothing. It wouldn't be so bad if she got her come-uppance and saw the error of her ways but other reviews say this doesn't happen. Reading her get away with everything will be really annoying so I might just not finish.

I really hope people like this don't exist in real life.

Not sure I liked this

Alison makes you feel pity and then a mixture of annoyance and dislike. I listened to the end hoping she would make good but I was disappointed

Not what I was expecting

Didn't really enjoy the story. I felt that the main character came across as the villain. This was furthered by the way it was narrated. I wasn't sure if we were supposed to like her or dislike her - I definitely disliked her. I also thought that the story featured running far more than it did. Perhaps my fault for not reading the synopsis properly? Definitely not for me.

Very flat ending

I enjoyed listening to this, the start and middle kept me interested and it was an easy listen however the ending fell very flat for me. it felt very rushed and the ending left me disappointed. not sure it's worth the credit.

Envious hypocritical unpleasant heroine

I started listening to this book and was delighted at first - a heroine crawling away bit by bit from a domineering bullying mother, building herself a life, loosing weight, developing social life etc - it was pleasant to follow Alison during this journey.

But at some point - the heroine turns into the same bullying envious hypocritical character as her mother , ungrateful and indecent. Living as vengeful parasite ( exactly as her mother did) on other people s life, doing horrible things - like putting a client s toothbrush into a toilet and hypocritically pondering the typical “ why is it that these people have everything and I do not have anything?”. Well first of all dearest they worked much more than you.
And instead being jealous and ungrateful you better develop your lazy and stupid self, that s why.

I do not understand the point in creating another description of human wickedness. Instead of making a positive story from unhappiness and misery to healthy life with achievement and gratitude.

There is enough of the former, dear author

I don’t understand the bad reviews!

I bought this audio book for a light read. I like listening To audio books at work & I thought the story was original & kept me interested till the end. If I bought the book expecting Shakespeare then, yes, I would have been disappointed but I expected chick lit & that’s what I got.

The narrator had a great voice & was enjoyable to listen to.

I really enjoyed it!
