Publisher's Summary

Book 8 of the Fatal series from New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Marie Force.

As a new year dawns in the capital city, dual scandals rock the Metropolitan Police Department - and Lieutenant Sam Holland is right in the middle of them. Chief Farnsworth is catching heat for the way he handled a recent homicide investigation, and Detective Gonzales is accused of failing to disclose an earlier connection to the judge who decided his custody hearing.

When Gonzo's fight for his child turns deadly and he has a shaky alibi, Sam must defend two of her closest colleagues. All while her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano, settles into his new office at the White House.

Nick begins to wonder if the president is using him for a political boost, and his worries mount over a complication in the plans to adopt Scotty at a time when Sam is being put through the wringer by the always-rabid DC press corps. As the evidence against Gonzo piles up, Sam suspects someone is gunning for her - and her team.

So so novel really well narrated

I keep trying to like Marie Force novels as so many other do, but they are simply do not fit my taste. The best thing about this Fatal series of audiobooks is narration by Eva Kaminsky.

Great Addition To The Series

Having read all the seven books which came before this new addition to the series, I can testify that this novel once again, comes through, so to speak, for all of us who absolutely love these characters and the rock'em sock'em quality to their lives, both independently of one another and together.

Sam is once again that complicated mixture of passion and vulnerability covered over by her fierce loyalty to those she loves and with whom she works and seasoned with her complete irreverence for the expectations of polite society. Her bond with Nick is as enduring as the granite of Yosemite's El Capitan, her love for Scotty as protective as any grizzly bear mom, and the depth of her sense of justice knows no bounds.

Nick is amazing as her husband, her lover, and the father every kid would want. And as is the case in all the preceding novels in this series, the action is non-stop, the intensity is as consistent as one would expect in the life of high profile individuals, and the repartee between Sam and all her friends and family as sparkling and humorous as ever.

Sam's life is already complicated but being the Second Lady of the land makes it even more so. In the midst of all that, old enemies make new problems as it appears that Sam's entire team and the police department is under fire and taking their share of political hits. So be prepared for more of what makes all the "Fatal Series" some of the best reading around.

Those who love hot romance mixed with humor, mystery, and political drama will love this novel. If this is your first go around with Sam and Nick, please start with book one. You owe it to yourself to experience everything about their relationship up to this present story. All in all, this is a worthy addition to a marvelous series.

Eva Kaminsky was outstanding with the delivery of the story.

Mildly Entertaining but Not Realistic

While Marie Force is a gifted writer and Eva Kaminsky has an amazing voice, I found the plot of Fatal Scandal too unrealistic to be enjoyable. Samantha & Nick, plus their friends, family and co-workers, were all engaging & likable characters but the story didn't fit.

However, I thought it was ridiculous when Nick (newly elected Senator) was asked to be Vice President the same month. In what world would the US congress confirm a man with no national political experience?

Next, his police lieutenant wife Sam was naïve enough to believe she could attempt to arrest murderers without any back-up. And why would a secret service detail interfere with her catching killers? It would be like having her own personal SWAT team.

I like strong and smart characters, so it drives me nuts when an author has them do things totally out of character. For example, supposedly Sam & Nick are dabbling in D/S. and that Sam liked being hit (spanked) by Nick. Get real, Nick doesn't have any violent tendencies and Sam is not a pathetic doormat who enjoys being degraded.

Since I like the various characters - particularly Shelby - I might try the next book. Less violence and more reality please!

Worth the wait and the credit

Loved all of the plotlines and the dialogues. Nick and Scotty were less perfect which works for me.

Turmoil, politics, police action, family

This book has the MPD in turmoil with officers being injured and enemies being murdered. Some relationships are in turmoil also. There are the same wonderful characters with suspense and action scenes. It is a very entertaining book. However, I always skip over the graphic sex scenes. TMI (too much information). The performance is excellent.

Mixed Feelings

This is my 2nd time through this series. I felt like listening again since it’s been awhile. Absolutely love the series but I have mixed feelings. It really has become unrealistic and Sam is extremely and unnecessarily bitchy to people. This time around it’s really getting on my nerves! Yes she has a job to do getting answers but geez, it’s just down right rude! I still love the series though and will continue to listen as they are released. I do recommend these books!
