Publisher's Summary

Born into a family of five, Frank Bello grew up in difficult circumstances. His father abandoned his wife and children. Left with no male role model, Frank found inspiration in heavy metal bass players, following their example and forging a career with Anthrax from his early teens - first as a roadie, and then as the group's bass player.

International stardom came Frank's way by the mid-to-late 1980s, when he was still in his early 20s, but tragedy struck in 1996 when his brother Anthony was murdered in New York. Although the case went to trial, the suspected killer was released without charge after a witness, intimidated by violent elements, withdrew his testimony.

Two decades later, Frank is a father himself to a young son. Like many men who grew up without the guidance of a dad, he asks himself important questions about the meaning of fatherhood and how to do the job well. This is the wisdom which Fathers, Brothers, and Sons offers listeners.

Frank doesn't preach or seek sympathy in his book. Instead, he simply passes on the wisdom gained from a lifetime of turbulence, paying tribute to his loved ones in a way that will resonate with us all.

Marked as finished to get it out of my queue

In one respect, I am unqualified to give my opinion on the whole book, since I bailed at the 3 hour mark.....but what a painful process to get as far as I did. I picked up because I am interested in the lives of musicians, regardless of my own taste.....and being or not being an Anthrax fan is irrelevant to my comments. But jeez! How many times can one listen to a 50 something year old man be a "huuge fan" of any artist he happens to encounter. Narration sounds juvenile, maybe the story would have had more substance read by someone else (Gene Simmons?). I know if you are a fan, you will eat this book up. But if you are on the edge or just looking for a good memoir, look elsewhere and save a credit.

Thanks for sharing your story Frank! I'm blessed to have been an Anthrax fan for decades, and I can't tell you how much your story inspires me. You tell it well and kept me hooked through the whole book. I'm a better man for knowing the story of one of my heros. You and Anthrax will forever be present in my own story, and I'm thankful to have been on this journey with you!

Short and sweet

Short and sweet for an autobiography. Great, positive stories. A good listen for fans of Anthrax and heavy metal

Got The Time, it just needs more

Enjoyable listen. Frank comes across as a really sound guy. I just can't help but think that there are parts which were vague and they're the parts that, as a fan of Anthrax (and Helmet), I was expecting a bit more depth.
His story is fascinating; his family/non-musical life takes up a decent portion of the book, and that's not a criticism at all. You get a genuine sense of what Frank is like as a person. Honest and straight to the point.
Overall, I think the one thing that sets this book apart from other autobiographies is the delivery. Listening to it's entirety (in a single session) was like sharing a beer with the man himself. He mentions in the book about talking to the listener as a friend, and I definitely related to that.
