Discover why women are so often unhappy with their appearance - and how they can learn to love themselves. When women are told that what is important about us is how we look, it becomes increasingly difficult for us to feel comfortable with our appearance and how we feel about our bodies. We are told, over and over - if we just lost weight, fit into those old jeans, or into a new smaller pair - we will be happier and feel better about ourselves.

Story
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Publisher's Summary
This audiobook includes bonus tracks with interviews from Shauna Niequist (Present over Perfect), Hillary McBride (Mothers, Daughters, and Body Image), Pete Enns (How the Bible Actually Works), and more from Jen's podcast, For the Love!
No more hiding or people-pleasing up in here, sisters. No more being sidelined in your own life. It is time for us to be brave, to claim our gifts and quirks and emotions. You are set free and set up and set on fire.
Now you can get busy doing what you were placed on this planet to do. Now you can be honest, honest, honest about all of it, even the hard stuff, even the humiliating stuff, even the secret stuff. Now you can walk in your convictions of faith and ask new questions unafraid. Now you can be so free, because you are not searching for value from any source other than your own beautiful soul made piece by piece by God who adores you and is ready to get on with the business of unleashing you into this world.
In this audiobook, I break it down into five self-reflective categories - who I am, what I need, what I want, what I believe, and how I connect - and by working your way through them, you will learn to own your space, ground, and gifts (they are yours, sister); be strong in your relationships and lay down passive aggression, resentment, drama, and compliance; say guilt-free what you want and what you need; and welcome spiritual curiosity and all the fantastic change that doing so creates.
You with me, beloveds? If we do this work on our own selves now, not only will we discover a life truly worth living, but we will free our daughters to rise up behind us, with spines straight, heads up, and coated in our strength.

THE best book I've ever read.
This was so dang good. Absolutely the best book I've ever read. Maybe it's the Enneagram 3 in me, or maybe it's just that exceptional, but I related to Jen SO much throughout this book. I feel a deep connection to nearly every line. In all my reading, this is the book I've been waiting for. Oh, I should add, I am a fairly conservative Republican. I say that because....well....screw politics. Let's conquer this world together, sister.

Game changer
I’ve been following Jen Hatmaker, and reading her books, for several years now. I adore her, and always have high expectations for her work. Well, this book just blew all my expectations out of the water. It was like she was inside my head reading my mind...helping me understand why I have acted, behaved, or thought a certain way. As I read through a chapter, I laugh, I relate, I cry, and I end just stunned by the revelation of putting it all together. I could not be more thankful to have received an advanced copy of this book that will change the way I think forever. Then I got the audio version, and to listen to her read this beautiful piece of work was incredible. Not to mention all the bonus commentary of her explaining why she wrote what she wrote. Thank you, Jen Hatmaker!

Goin' in for a 2nd listen
First, I challenge anyone who says they didn't come out of this book with Jen living in their head or talking like Jen.
Second, this is my virgin voyage on the Hatmaker express and I wasn't really prepared for the vivacity coming through this book. It's a good ride, people, but it takes energy to listen and wisdom to know when to pause.
Third, not every chapter will be made for you. But the chapters that are, will pierce you to the core.
One of the biggest chapters for me was about spirituality. I'm your typical white woman who grew up in the church and left at 19 with more than a little bitterness. I've been learning and searching on how to connect with my spirituality in the forever wake of the damage. This book provided perspective and let me know that I was not alone in the isolation designed for people who question and challenge the legacy practices and patriarchy.
It's important to know that this book is about empowerment, not about where to place blame or anger.
So pour yourself a cuppa and settle in for the ride.

So good for you!
I have loved Jen’s podcast ‘For the Love’ since I started listening 2 years ago so I needed to read her book. The way Jen speaks about faith, doing life and taking steps for change can make me cry, laugh out loud (actually did do that numerous time’s whilst listening to the book and running alone and got some concerned stares) and think harder about my life. It has made me more confident and made me not feel alone in feeling strongly about what I dream and push for. I feel like my whole outlook on life has changed since Jen and the people who she brings to the table have started talking into my ear phones and I am so very grateful. Thank you Jen for your voice in the world, for being faithful and your amazing book that I am telling all my friends about x x x
