There has been a major upheaval at Mount Weather. The president has been assassinated. Her running mate, who was her husband, is sworn in as president in order to preserve democracy, but in only a short time his behavior has put the Mount Weather community in a state of turmoil. If that wasn't bad enough, Chinese soldiers have been discovered on American soil and the zeds, already an ever present danger, are continuing to show signs of cognition and teamwork. The motives of both are unknown but do not bode well for the survivors.

Story
Army veteran Lee Riker is staying in an Atlanta shelter and supporting himself with the odd carpentry job when his sister, Tara, summons him home to Indiana for the reading of their mother’s will. Riker boards a Greyhound bus in Atlanta with his duffel bag, less than $200 to his name, and a secret he must protect at all costs. Riker makes it to Middletown only to learn his sister has recently witnessed a gruesome death. Insisting she saw the victim rise from a pool of his own blood to attack the Samaritan rendering aid, Tara floats the idea that the man may have been a zombie.

His hands knew how to fight. His fingers knew the ways of war. Gunny, Griz, and the crew have one more mission south of the border, the Traveler is looking to right some wrongs, and Jessie is trapped in a faraway place. The undead hordes are as vicious as ever, and a simple rescue mission gets real complicated real quick. This is the final two-fisted, gas-guzzling, gear-grinding thrill ride of the Zombie Road saga. More tales to come, but this concludes the story that started with the Convoy of Carnage.

As the first waves of injured bystanders, guardsmen, and rioters arrived at hospitals, it became apparent that a deadly new disease had been unleashed on the population. Whether the virus was naturally occurring or an escaped lab experiment, Cade hadn't a clue and wasn't especially concerned until he learned of its unprecedented virulence, unusual method of transference, and the fact that, according to the news, it brought the newly dead back to life, semi-mindless, and with an insatiable desire to feed on the flesh of the living.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Doesn’t disappoint
As an avid listener to all Zombie Apocalypse novels, this series holds a special place in my heart. My son was named after the man behind the Zombie rules. If you’re reading this, and haven’t read or listened to the previous books. You’re in for a treat when you start this series.
This book in particular was classic Achord. If you’re familiar with his writing, he has a way of progressing the characters that is immersive and overall enjoyable. To see my fav characters this far after the fall of man is extraordinary cool. I almost feel like They’re real people. Can’t forget to mention Halstead. He really captures the emotions displayed. This is more of a review of the series than anything, it’s important to note that the series has truly evolved into a classic. From a young man who had lost his grandma to being the ear of the president.
This book truly had nothing I could complain about. Well done.

It's about time the overall story ends. The latest book in the series is not as good as I had hoped... It opens the plot for a future story line but it is nothing you would really miss...

not worth the wait
do not read if you do not want some spoilers. this is your warning.....
I started reading the zombie rules story in 2017. I finished the entire series right around the time the previous book came out. I found the audiobooks on YouTube and saw that the new book had finally come out around 3 years later. so I went back and listened to the whole series again. the one thing I really dislike about this series, is that the author does a wonderful job of making you absolutely despise characters. when Julie and everyone are murdered, you can't wait for Zack to get revenge on them and you never get it. instead another character that you hate, gets the revenge for him. those bad characters that the author spends so much time making you despise, shouldn't just die in a quick easy painless death. they should suffer and know that they are dying so it makes it worth it. and so many times we don't get that vindication. and in this book Rachelle is that person. at least she kind of gets what's coming to her in a way that is vindicating compared to other deaths. but I almost said that I am done with this series forever until she was killed. if she had been in the next book I wouldn't have read it. I don't like that the zombies are now pretty much talking I think they have jumped the shark with this series. most zombie books start out with humans versus zombies and then eventually make their way to humans versus humans with zombies present. this has pretty much always been humans versus humans with zombies present. again the author doesn't give us much as that group that they stumble across, that kills two people and has that woman taped up, we don't even get to hear what happens to them besides a quick journal entry or quick discussion but no details whatsoever. I was disappointed that we had to wait 3 years for such a poor continuation of the story. I hope that the author comes back with one more book and wraps the story up for good. however the narrator as always does a great job. I would wait for it to come out on youtube. don't waste your money

MIDDLE OF THE ROAD
Book 7 in the Zombie Rules Series is lacklustre in comparison to the previous six books. It is still enjoyable just without the impact.
