Why a female narrator?

I really want to like this series, but it ends up being too dry. One thing that bugs me is the choice to have a female reader for a male first person narration. Just because the author is female doesn't mean that it should be read by one.

loved the book,but....

The story is a good cozy mystery. The author does not dissappoint. The narrator did a good job, but somehow the female voice was offputting a bit. However still a great listen overall.

Reall enjoying this series....

Any additional comments?

I am working my way through this series and enjoying each new book. This is book #3, and I just downloaded #4. I have really come to like Charlie, Diesel, and their extended family. We met Stewart in the last book and I have come to really like him in this book. I had a Maine Coon for 20 years, and I can identify with a lot of Diesel's characteristics. There are only five audio books in this series, but I hope that there will be more in the future.

Great series

Althea College’s new writer in residence was born locally. Librarian Charlie Harris’s daughter surprises him by showing up to teach a semester of acting. Turns out the writer is a former boyfriend. When he’s found dead the whole family are threatened. Great narration and series.

Delightful

It is so nice to be able to enjoy a good, clean, mystery with an interesting story and unexpected plot twists. I think I have discovered a delightful new series that is both literate and without gratuitous smut. So many are either written for a dumbed down crowd or so full of smut you can’t determine what the book is about. My only criticism is that I don’t think southerners are all as gracious as the author seems to indicate. Only a minute few.

I like the idea of this story

I love cats and I’m a librarian so I had high hopes for this series but it fell short in many aspects. Firstly, the librarian is male but this has a female narrator which confuses things since the majority of librarians are female. Secondly, the cat seemed more of a dog and everyone seemed to accept having a cat come into their establishment whether it was a restaurant, police station, work place, etc. Thirdly, this was in the vain of Christian literature, which I wasn’t expecting in a mystery. I felt like this was written in the fifties and could not relate to the characters. I couldn’t wait for the novel to finish.

fun series

I really enjoy these stories. Right now both of Charlie's kids have come home. And then the murder of his daughter's friend. Very interesting conclusion. Very enjoyable.

A really enjoyable series so far

I have now listened to the first 3 in this series, and all have been really enjoyable, with good build ups to the eventual reveal if the murderer.
I'm looking forward to working my way through the rest of the series.

About love these

I throughly enjoy these stories by Miranda James.

It’s a pity there’s not any more of these here on audible. The Southern ladies and the cat in the stack series are wonderful to listen too
