Story
Carly had thought they’d always live there. The beautiful Cornish cliffside house they’d taken on as a wreck, that Mark had obsessively redesigned and renovated - a project that had made him famous. It was where they’d raised their children, where they’d sat cozily on the sofa, watching storms raging over the sea below. It was where they’d promised to keep each other’s secrets. Until now. Because Mark has fallen in love. With someone he definitely shouldn’t have. Someone who isn’t Carly. And suddenly their family home doesn’t feel like so much of a safe haven.

Our new home was supposed to be a chance to leave our past behind. But was moving here the worst mistake of our lives? All our friends and family were gathered, glasses raised to toast our fresh start. It should have been a night for happiness and celebration. The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

Publisher's Summary
She’s been waiting her whole life to meet a man like Alex. But he’s been waiting, too. And once he has her, he’ll never let her go....
Hannah has done everything to make sure her life is safe and secure. A long way from her unstable childhood growing up in foster care, she’s content with her sweet, little, messy apartment and her satisfying job as a social worker. She quietly worries that, aged 36, she might never fall in love. But otherwise her life is where she wants it to be.
Until, encouraged by her best friend to join a dating app, she meets Alex. He’s irresistibly handsome. He loves the same music as her. The same food as well. They both dream of travelling the world but agree they’d be equally happy escaping to a cottage by the beach in Devon. Both of them would love to own a Labrador one day. It’s like he’s made for her. It’s like he’s too good to be true.
Hannah’s friends aren’t so sure about him. But Hannah thinks he’s perfect.
Which is good. Because Alex knows she’s perfect for him, too. In fact, she’s exactly the girl he’s been looking for....
And nothing Hannah’s done to make her life safe will ever be enough.
A gripping and suspenseful psychological thriller about dark obsession and internet dating. Fans of The Wife Between Us, Friend Request, and Gone Girl will adore this twisted love story.
Praise for Sue Watson:
"Tense, atmospheric psychological thriller with more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. Impeccably written and a big fat 5***** from me. Awesome!" (Number one best-selling author Angela Marsons)

What a Dumb Chick!
NO SPOILERS! This book is about domestic abuse and it was just so typical. The main character was the most gullible woman in the world and I found myself yelling at her for being so stupid. By the end I wanted her to die for all her dumb choices. The book could have been good if the author allowed her characters to do anything beyond the cliche.
I was left feeling very unfulfilled with this one.

Wooooowwww!!!
I’m pretty sure people thought I was a crazy person as I listened to this book just because every time there was a twist I’d yell “NO!” Or just gasp loudly. This book is amazing and one of the best I’ve listened too and was perfectly narrated. I saw some people write a review saying how dumb the main character was but that’s just it the author did an amazing job capturing her absolute naivety. This is a great one!

Good but frustrating
I was so frustrated with the main character! I’m not even finished and if I wasn’t enjoying the overall story, I wouldn’t finish! This woman is so gullible and so easily deceived. Just when I start to like her then bam she turns into a woman willing to ignore the blatantly creepy signs!

Far from her best
I do like some of Sue Watson's previous books, but found this one a real effort. So many repeated sentences and descriptions word-for-word, and it just went on and on. You can actually listen to the first 5 chapters and the last 5 chapters and you wouldn't have missed anything, except for more whining of the pathetic female lead and her stalker boyfriend. Maybe the last chapter could have been woven into the book sooner, to make the 10hours more interesting. Great narration though.

Awful rubbish
I can’t believe I finished this truly dreadful book with the silliest main female character ever. She had so many signals that her new ‘love’ was controlling but she carried on regardless. I fast forwarded to the end and laughed as I couldn’t believe how ridiculous it was.

Truly terrible
It’s rare that I find a book so poor that I feel compelled to write a review, but if I can spare another person from having to endure this book then here goes!
The story is weak, predictable and takes about 8 hours to finally get going. The protagonist is incredibly annoying and I think is actually a disservice to women worldwide. The “twist” at the end is so obvious it’s embarrassing. To say I would not recommend this book is an understatement.

The dullest, most repetitive, mind numbingly boring book ever...breathed a sigh of relief when it was over. The theme of the book was sooooo glaringly obvious and how the main protagonist could be so thick defies belief. Absolutely dreadful

Literally nothing happens until the last 2 chapter
I feel like I spent all those hours listening, waiting for something to happen. Then when something finally did, it seemed that the whole book was written for the point of those two chapters at the end which to me is pointless.
I mean, it was OK. Just a bit predictable

Weird one
It could have gone so many ways but it seemed like it hit a point where the author just needed to finish so the main story ended then up popped a summary from another characters point of view which then changed the story. It was kind of good but just all get a bit rushed. It could have been done much better I think. Felt a bit meh at the end.

A very soppy long winded love story. I
really struggled to finish the book actually.

Shattered by the ending!
Loved the story! Couldn’t stop listening despite the main character being the most naive & infuriating woman of all time! Such a twist at the end & so disappointing being that this was the only character I liked throughout! Great book though. Would definitely recommend.

Great book until ending
The narration was amazing (highly recommend Tamsin Kennard) and I could not stop listening even if the protagonist was so effing dumb I wanted to scream. Great book but the ending was disappointing. I kept waiting for a great twist and I didn't get it. Despite this I am grateful I was totally engrossed in the story and it kept me guessing for a few hours. I would have given it 4 stars if the ending would have been better.

Slow burn with no exciting end.
Unfortunately it was a bit anticlimactic for me. The end is very abrupt and had zero excitement. I believed that it was leading somewhere but it was a very mediocre / boring end.

The most irritating protagonist of all time??
I spent so much of this book yelling at the main character as I listened in my car. She has to be the most naive character in the history of literature. I felt like quitting throughout but had to know what happened. The ending redeemed things ever so slightly.

Slow & Obvious
This book made me feel frustrated, The main character Hannah was not likeable, the twist at the end felt predictable but also a bit disjointed, like a last minute add on.

Twist at end
The story was seemingly predictable until the epilogue. I was a bit put off by the narrator’s drawl but on the whole enjoyed the book

Enjoyable
Enjoyable storyline and great twist. Only problem is the lead character and her ridiculous level of naivety which I found unbelievable and downright irritating at times. However aside from this I found it enjoyable over all and I recommend. In my opinion I give it 3.5/5 stars overall!

Read well but
Starts out strong but drags on. Doesn't really make sense, feels like the twist was added as an after thought.
