Publisher's Summary

"You say I'll never own you. If I win - you willingly give me that right. You sign not only the debt agreement, but another - one that makes me your master until your last breath is taken. You do that, and I'll give you this."

Nila Weaver's family is indebted. Stolen, taken, and bound not by monsters but by an agreement written over 600 years ago, she has no way out.

She belongs to Jethro as much as she denies it.

Jethro Hawk's patience is running out. His inheritance gift tests, challenges, and surprises him - and not in good ways. He hasn't leashed her but he thinks he might've found a way to bind her forever.

Debts are mounting. Payment waiting.

The narration is the best I've heard on Audible

Addictive, dark, tense. Not for everyone. The narration truly takes it over the top. I can't wait for the third book to release!

Book 2 is even more addictive!

First Debt is the second book in Pepper Winters' Indebted series. It picks up where book one left off, so it should definitely be read in order. For me this book was even better than the first. It shows you more of an insight into Jethro Hawk's life as well as Nila Weavers.

For generations, the Hawks have been collecting the debt owed to them from the Weavers. What started out as cruelty of the Weavers towards the Hawks, turned into a generational debt only the first born Weaver can repay. The crimes the original Weaver family committed are now being sought as retribution for the acts that were committed against them. Mark for mark, tear for tear, each debt will be repaid, according to the Hawk matriarch, even if those that must follow it out are in just as much pain as the indebted!

Pepper Winters ability to develop characters that delve deep into your heart is outstanding. As much as I don't want to like Jethro Hawk, the more I find myself feeling for him. The way she pulled me into this story and had me burning through the pages was incredible. I had to know what was going to happen next. Before I could even write this review, I had to start on book three. This series is that good!

PS- Will Watt and Kylie C. Stewart do a phenomenal job of narrating this series. I actually purchased this series because I am a fan of Will Watt, but two books in and I am honestly a fan of all three of this incredible trifecta. The dynamic duo bring Pepper's world to life and I simply cannot get enough. Well done!!!

Yuck!!!

Would you try another book from Pepper Winters and/or Will M. Watt and Kylie C. Stewart ?

The summary of this book was intriguing and I was looking for a series. I'm not a prude but the opening chapter was so grossly sex-focused... Can't call it erotic, not sure that pornographic is entirely accurate but certainly graphic and brimming with gratuitous sex from the opening. I had no reason to care about the story, the characters or connect in any way. This book was a huge purchase mistake. I regret buying it and deleted it from my device after Chaper 1.

I hope this author gets treatment for her eating disorder so she can stop triggering her readers...

Trigger Warning! Do not listen to this book if you have or are recovering/in remission for an eating disorder. This author has an unhealthy habit of glorifying skeletal body shapes in women, and dropping references to symptoms and habits of disordered eating.

This review also contains triggers.

I thought it was a bit odd in the first book how many times the author felt it necessary to mention that her character was suuuper skinny and even going so far as to describe it as being abnormally so. Okay. Odd choice, but the MC also works in fashion and walked a runway, so, okay, whatever.

NOW I get it. I should have caught on sooner, especially with the MC’s “dizzy spells” and tendency to faint... a lot... due to “vertigo” (uh-huh). Add the fact that the MC hardly ever eats, (but drinks a lot of tea! Lol... I see you.) She even goes for more than a day or two of not eating anything at all at the beginning of the second book/end of the first.

Here’s a snippet from this book that perfectly exemplifies one of the many compulsive, ubiquitous references to the anorexic body shape of the MC (again, TRIGGER WARNING):

“My brain scattered as I followed the hollow path of her belly to sharp hip bones under silky skin. There wasn’t an ounce of fat anywhere on her delicate frame”.

We get it. You don’t need to hit your readers over the head with a hammer of how sickly and fragile your bird-boned little MC is.

As you can all tell, I’m pretty sick of it. Won’t be continuing this series. To the author, get help, or at the very least please stop writing in such a way that glorifies a deadly disease. Thanks a bunch.

WOW..... JUST WOW!!!

Where does First Debt rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Very well done. Probably the best I've listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I adore Jethro. He's such a complex character. There is a kind heart under all that ice of his

Which character – as performed by Will M. Watt and Kylie C. Stewart – was your favorite?

It's hard to choose if I like Nila or Jethro better. Both Kylie and Will do such an amazing job at bringing the characters to life but I think Jethro is my favorite. You can feel every emotion he is feeling.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes, but I didn't have the time to. It took me a couple days

Any additional comments?

Pure perfection! I can't wait for book 3 :)

hate cliffhangers

I really wish the author's would put in the discreption that the story isn't over even after book 2!!!!! it's just now getting to the good part and it ended and now have to wait until the summer for book 3. Will not buy if it doesn't say it's the final book or conclusion to the main characters of the book. not worth the credit.

If you like a story with the Male being a wimp..

This book has probably been the most frustrating stories to try and get through, ugh. The male character always being so "what are you doing to me". I cannot, this story line was different and I THOUGHT it might be interesting, but it is simply annoying. There is little to no sexual encounters and this is book freaking 2. I- I'm done, no I could not finish this book let alone the series. I'm out, good luck if you choose to read or listen to this anyways.

Excruciatingly Slow and Boring

I started with book one. It didn't really hold my attention but it seemed like it had potential and got a lot of good reviews on here so I kept waiting for it to get better. I moved to book two. Again, I kept waiting for it to get better because it had potential, it did not. I decided to try the last book in the series and couldn't even get through half of it. Three wasted credits!

The narrators
Its hard to say whether or not they did a good job because the story was so long-winded it was exhausting. I'd definitely try to listen to them again if possible.

The story
First of all, the main characters are annoying, fickle and extremely weak. Its like the writer didn't have much content to add to the story so she made them repeat the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. Lots of unnecessary and extremely long monologues. Even the sex scenes were cringe worthy.

Definitely NOT worth the credit.

I'm not sure why I keep listening. The male narrator sounds so Whiney when he shouldn't be. Ugh...
