Publisher's Summary

Overwhelmed by the neighborly attentions of the cheerful and vivacious “girl next door,” a man burned by love finds his passions reigniting in #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts’s First Impressions.

Entrepreneur Vance Banning took a residence in rural Maryland to escape business pressures—and relationships with women pursuing his bank account. To the community, he’s a moody, out-of-work carpenter with a chip on his shoulder. To next door neighbor Shane Abbott, he’s just a man who needs a little kindness in his life. Vance’s suspicions of the stunning beauty’s intense interest in him start to fade when he realizes Shane’s compassion is honest and joyful—giving his heart permission to experience true love.

Slow and not for me.

I didn’t look to see when this was written, but I prefer stronger female characters. This story kinda made me nauseous. It just is t for me. I tried listening and I couldn’t get past the beginning of the 4th chapter.
If you enjoy it, I’m happy for you.

Teenage story

Nora Roberts is capable of so much better. This is meant for a teenage girl. Overused story line, pouty heroine, predictable ending.

Not one of my favorites

This book was recommended by someone at Audible so I decided to give it a try. Nothing wrong with it but I just found it kind of "blah" and I would really like to exchange it for something I'd enjoy more like one of the Robyn Carr novels. They are my absolute favorite.

Eh

Not one of the best of her stories. The characters could have been better developed.

Narration

The narration was tough. Sometimes felt like I was listening to a story about young teens with young voices. Not much to the overall plot. Was a bit disappointes

Nora Robert’s Fan

I am a fan but this book I can’t get through. It may be the narration but the storyline is weak. It’s like they fell in love in 2 seconds but I can’t tell why. I fall asleep every time I try to listen. Sorry Nora, I love your books but this one is awful.

Don’t use a credit

This book is from 2010, despite the release date on Audible. I took The advice of another reviewer and adjusted the speed of the audio, which made the narration more tolerable. It was difficult for me to find Nora Roberts’ voice in this book, even from 12 years ago. This book simple, predictable, and missing the clever use of language I enjoy her writing. I wish I had saved the credit on this one.

It's not as bad at 1.15x speed...

I messed around with the speed for a while until I could find one that made the characters sound normal enough but the reader tolerable. I'm honestly pretty shocked at how bad the performance was. Huge NR fan, but wow.

Awful narrator

The book is obviously an early work and therefore nothing special. But the narration is simply awful.

Poor character development and trigger warning

There really was very little thought into the character development of this book. He is burned by love, yet jumps straight into kissing her. On top of that, one scene borders on an attempt at r**e with her saying no multiple times and him just carting her off to bed (somehow she magically changed into thinking that was funny). This is the point at which I stopped the book as I felt it was too inappropriate.
