Story
Jerry Grey is known to most of the world by his crime-writing pseudonym, Henry Cutter - a name that has been keeping readers at the edges of their seats for more than a decade. Recently diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's at the age of 49, Jerry's crime-writing days are coming to an end. His 12 books tell stories of brutal murders committed by bad men, of a world out of balance, of victims finding the darkest forms of justice.

Publisher's Summary
There's a common plea detectives get from the loved ones of victims: When you find the person who did this, give me five minutes alone with them. And that's exactly what someone is doing. Someone is helping these victims get their five minutes alone.
When the body of a convicted rapist is found, the detectives try to determine if this is murder or suicide. The following night two more rapists go missing. It's hard to investigate when everyone on the police force seems to be rooting for the killer. But when innocent people start to die, two detectives find themselves with different objectives, and soon they're battling something they never would've expected: each other.

A fitting end (?) to the Christchurch series!
I was waiting for this one, and Cleave did not disappoint. You may feel it starts off somewhat slowly, what with the various recaps of previous events and return of old familiar characters. But, about a quarter of the way into the tale, Cleave starts drawing you into this latest story and you don't want to put it down. The principal figures are Theo and Carl, two conflicted souls who, in the end, are very much the same. As was the case with each novel in the series, once the story starts unfolding, each chapter stops with an irresistible hook into the next chapter - and the ending is quite the cliffhanger. If you liked the preceding books, you'll find Five Minutes Alone really satisfied.
