Publisher's Summary

Flash Fire is the explosive sequel to The Extraordinaries by New York Times and USA Today best-selling author TJ Klune!

Through bravery, charm, and an alarming amount of enthusiasm, Nick landed himself the superhero boyfriend of his dreams. Now instead of just writing stories about him, Nick actually gets to kiss him. On the mouth. A lot. But having a superhero boyfriend isn’t everything Nick thought it would be - he’s still struggling to make peace with his own lack of extraordinary powers.

When new Extraordinaries begin arriving in Nova City - siblings who can manipulate smoke and ice, a mysterious hero who can move objects with their mind, and a drag queen superhero with the best name and the most-sequined costume anyone has ever had- it’s up to Nick and his friends Seth, Gibby, and Jazz to determine who is virtuous and who is villainous.

And new Extraordinaries aren’t the only things coming to light. Long-held secrets and neglected truths are surfacing that challenge everything Nick knows about justice, family, and being extraordinary. Which is a lot to handle when Nick really just wants to finish his self-insert bakery AU fanfic.

Will it all come together in the end or will it all go down in flames?

TJ has better works. Micheal Lesley great again!

Michael Lesley was amazing once again. His ability to tell a story and bring the written word to life is stunning to the point you forget it's just him doing all the narration.

Like the first book this one is a bit slow till the end. Though this book you could skip to chapter 11 without missing anything or taking away from the story. TJ Klune has a gift for telling a simple story in an entertaining way. Unfortunately, his keep it simple style worked against his desire to pull in relevant cultural topics that are anything but simple. His desire to bring to lite injustice by the hands of the police felt forced and a hinsight thought that was poorly squeezed into the book every few chapters. It was a complete 180 from his last book for some of his characters to suddenly hate police and there was no character development to justify any of his other characters having a disdain for them. So it felt odd to have all his characters, who weren't the villains, bash the police over and over. Even the police officers who we were supposed to like hated themselves for being police and accused all their coworkers of being evil. IDK. it came off as TJ lazily injecting current events to be a pseudo "ally" of who he thinks his audience is, to being a toned down version of Firestar, his reporter vilian. I would suggest if you want to bring up an importaint issue more than a passing jab to put some research into it and have some character development so it betters your story and doesn't come off as a soft Twitter rant.

Enjoyable but with caveats

I loved the first book and came into the second book with some trepidation and I was right. This was a very fun book to listen to although I think the author is a bit too… much. My main gripe is the social justice elemants. Im glad police brutality was brought up but the demonization of Aaron Bell just for being a cop and the blatant expectation of Nick to be this all knowing kid and

Klune does it again.

An amazing story writer, Klune gives you characters you can not avoid investing in. Narration is equally superb. I can not wait to share this with my other nerdy fantasy reader friends.

Better and better!

I thought I loved the first book, but this one? Whoa. I laughed, I cried a little, and I couldn’t stop listening. Lost hours of sleep but it was so worth it.

Help. I need more.

A fantastic follow up to the first book!
Once again we join Nick and his friends as they navigate life, love, and the daunting reality of extraordinaries and those who would use power to do evil things. A masterfully written love note to every queer kid who has dreamed of doing things only seen in movies, Flash Fire is a must!

So funny!

It never ceased to amaze me how TJ comes up with these characters, because even though there’s action and mystery the characters themselves are so well drawn, so well written, and the dialogue, how does he come up with these one liners I will never know!! Yes! Nicky, yes!
And the narrator adds so much to it, he does such a good job with the inflections and tone I am completely in love with this audiobook.
