Publisher's Summary

This book covers the second half of Thomas Flashman's experiences in the Peninsular War and follows on from Flashman in the Peninsula

Having lost his role as a staff officer, Flashman finds himself commanding a company in an infantry battalion. In between cuckolding his soldiers and annoying his superiors, he finds himself at the heart of the two bloodiest actions of the war. With drama and disaster in equal measure, he provides a firsthand account of not only the horror of battle but also the bloody aftermath.

Hopes for a quieter life backfire horribly when he is sent behind enemy lines to help recover an important British prisoner, who also happens to be a hated rival. His adventures take him the length of Spain and all the way to Paris on one of the most audacious wartime journeys ever undertaken. With the future of the French empire briefly placed in his quaking hands, Flashman dodges lovers, angry fathers, conspirators, and ministers of state in a desperate effort to keep his cowardly carcass in one piece.

This extraordinary account brings together various historical events while also giving a disturbing insight into the creation of a French literary classic!

Excellent Tale

I am so happy there re seven books in the Thomas Flashman series and I hope Robert Brightwell writes many more. This was another excellent listen and I am very happy to see that book five is now available and I am looking forward to listening to it also. The Thomas Flashman books, much like the Harry Flashman books, has piqued my interest in some of the historical characters introduced and I am looking forward to reading about them also. Let's get books six and seven available to listen to as soon as possible!

Wonderfully written and researched and nicely read. It is wholly worthy of the name, Flashman!

thoroughly enjoyable

I find it difficult to write a review as it’s such a personal choice for liking or disliking a book! But this is really excellent, following historical facts, causing me to lose sleep, as I just listen to another chapter! I’ve laughed out loud, found myself chewing my fingernails, and smacking my head in disbelief! Completely absorbed! “Un-putdownable” audio! Thank you Mr Brightwell
