Publisher's Summary

Kenna is a human in a magic-biased world, but a night at the club changes everything.

There she meets four sexy strangers who unbind the magic she never knew she had. Now, she needs their help to train her wild and unpredictable magic and to find the truth of who she really is before someone she loves gets hurt. She is tormented by events in her past, and the secret she has guarded for so long threatens to destroy everything.

This a slow-burn reverse-harem book. This contains scenes and references of abuse some listeners may find triggering.

Smirk Much?

DNF 20-25 min into book.
Firstly, unless she’s narrating dialogue, the narrator’s cadence is too annoyingly similar to William Shatner’s, with a hard pause / near full stop after EVERY bloody word. It is distracting and disgusting.
Secondly, the author needs to learn about synonyms and to employ them. Why are the characters only able to smirk? Doesn’t anyone smile/grin/beam/sneer/look smug anymore? I joke not, at the point in the book where the female MC is on the dance floor with her best friend and the four guys, nearly every sentence mentioned one of the characters smirking! Does the author even know the definition?? It’s not a friendly expression!! It’s used to show bloody contempt, you dolt!
Smirk
verb (used without object)
1. To smile in an affected, smug, or offensively familiar way.
Noun
2. The facial expression of a person who smirks
Thirdly, who bloody cares what EVERY person is wearing??? Does the author not have a plot to get to or is the necessity of fashion the author’s means of adding pages to a short story?

Between those three glaring issues and the utter lack of character depth and cheesy storytelling, I do NOT recommend this book or the author.

Great world building

Loved this story! Always a fan of a strong, determined FMC and when the guys of her growing harem are all so unique. I enjoyed seeing how each of the guys helped her in different ways and I can’t wait to see how their story continues.
The only complaint was when the female voice actor did some of the guy voices, it was kinda stilted and off. But overall, loved it.

Weak female Character

The premise is good but the female heroine is an annoying, crybaby why me, waste of words character that has every been written. The voice of the narrator doesn’t help. There are no redeeming qualities to the main character. I listened to the whole thing because I paid with a credit…what a waste of time.

Well, yikes.

This was probably one of the hardest stories I’ve ever listen to, but I wanted to finish it so I could write an honest review. The story was really bad; very jumpy, predictable and crazy unrealistic in every way. The charters were not very defined and I was still confused about who was who with the men at the end. But the only thing worse than the story was is the readers. It was almost as if Siri and Alexa was reading it out loud. Every character sounded exactly alike or they sounded like a valley girl. And the main charter cry’s soooooooo much. By the end, the story was just cringey and I kept checking the time to see when it would be over.

Cheezy, hormone filled and irritating narration

I’ll start with the narration. Troy did a good job, his male and female voices were good, but Stephanie was a pain to listen to. Her male voices were stilted and especially for the leader of the men (who’s name I cannot remember), who she managed to sound like a robot; stilted, monotone and drawn out. Her female voices were simpering and week and I didn’t like any of them. Seriously! What is with that in this day and age? Why do the all have to be subservient and apologizing?
It would have much been better if Troy read the whole thing.
I also didn’t understand the logic to their switches as I’d have expected him to read the chapters/sections dedicated to the men and her to read the female chapters, but no, they both read a bit of each. I was actually about to give up on the book several chapters in, when Troy suddenly started reading. It would be fair to say I listened to the whole book because of him and resulted in more stars than I’d have given the book otherwise.
I’d give him easy 4 stars but her just a weak 1 star at most and so I ended on 2.

Now the story. I did manage to finish it, mostly as I didn’t pay for it and so felt like I could give it a bit of a chance, but also because I was curious as to whether it was as bad as the reviews said, and I did get curious about the characters and how the plot would end, but the amount of innuendos, angst ridden teenage emotions and all the horny people, I’d have believed these were a bunch of sixteen year olds. The hyper focus on sex didn’t lead to much sex though, just kisses and touching, some groping and endless amount of fantasies, ugh, I became tired very early as it didn’t add anything to the story. The real emotions like empathy and caring, anger and fear were done ok and did add to the dynamic between them and so to the story as a whole.
I could have done with much less in your face horny and rather had some subtleties and electricity between them.
As it is they all want to F each other, and they all know it, and they all know it’s going to be a reverse harem situation but they just can’t get around to actually doing it like normal grownups. For a bunch of adults living together and being fine with sharing, the situation doesn’t make any sense unless you live somewhere sex is a taboo and then you wouldn’t see unmarried people of the opposite sex living together.
All that being said I ended up with 2 stars, as so much of the story doesn’t make any sense and reads like a bought book for teens, but I did get curious and managed to finish the book, mostly because of Troys reading so there’s that.

Bit repetitive

Slightly repetitive in places and the four men are a bit creepy in places, they know she’s been abused yet the one still dominates her slightly when they get close which is weird, why would you make her feel powerless when you know that’s what she’s scared of?! But she seems to be fine with it, I really liked some parts of it but some bits made me cringe a bit, I’m so glad it went in the direction it did though, as I thought it was going to be something hideous when she got the mark, I thought she was going to belong to at least one of them now and they would be using her as a slave or something and doing something awful with her!

Not sure

I usually love all things witch, vampire etc. This book just didn't grip me and I struggled to get into it. I did eventually finish listening but I won't be purchasing book 2 which is a shame as The blurb looked so promising. The narration is excellent though and maybe this just wasn't for me.

Not sure what was worse the story or the narration

Really struggled to listen to this. Was a waste of a credit and my time.

I did not know which character was speaking half of the time and the female narrator was very poor and sounded very unnatural. There was not much difference between the characters in the way of speech or personality in either the narration or the story which made it very confusing.

There was no character development at all and not much story development either. I definitely won't be wasting my time on the next book

Ruined by poor natration

The story itself is good, aside from the overuse of daft nicknames for the main female character.
Absolutely ruined though, by the female narrator who when reading the male voices sounds like the cross between a robot and a 10 year old reading with their fingers running slowly beneath each word.
Thankfully this book was free, I'd love to read the rest in the series but I cannot suffer any more of the same narrator unfortunately.

Earache

I only managed a few chapters. Female narrator seemed to over emphasise a lot of the words and even sounded stiff and robotic especially whilst narrating the male lines. I could not concentrate on the story and to be fair I am not sure if it lacked substance or whether the narrating overshadowed it.

Not great

I really struggled with listening to this book. I found the narration awful, it was very robotic (not just for the voice of Nacoah, which I think was on purpose- no idea why as it made him very un-relatable, I kept imagining him as a droid). The storyline was full of blaring holes. Being a Sarah J Maas fan, this was incredibly b or even c grade. Have no desire to listen to the next novels.

I would have gave it more stars

If the woman reader just did the woman's lines. and the guy reader read the rest I would have given more stars. the woman was to robotic for the male voices. and it crossed over to the female parts. If it wasn't for the guy's voice thrown in there I might not have bothered listening to the whole book. She was that annoying.

AMAZING!

This was an awesome audiobook! The female narration for anyone but the female protagonist was a bit robotic but otherwise the rest of the narration was really nice and natural in its rhythm. I found this included in my audible membership and really liked the sound of the blurb. I am really glad I did! My favourite character is totally Akito who despite only having one line in the book, is totally going to be one of the protagonists. And if this does not happen ... I will be very disappointed. This is a slow burn reverse harem romance with an amazing build up to make it oh so hot! I loved Kenna as a female protagonist and her character development throughout the book! Each male protagonist is also amazing and definitely easy to love once you get to know them. There will definitely be more added to the reverse harem as well which is exciting! This is definitely a book I would recommend if you think you might like it! I hope you love it just as much as I do! Enjoy!
