A weekly newspaper dedicated to the weird and the wonderful (but mostly the weird), The Stranger Times is the go-to publication for the unexplained and inexplicable. At least that's their pitch. The reality is rather less auspicious. Their editor is a drunken, foul-tempered and foul-mouthed husk of a man who thinks little of the publication he edits. His staff are a ragtag group of misfits. And as for the assistant editor...well, that job is a revolving door - and it has just revolved to reveal Hannah Willis, who's got problems of her own.

Publisher's Summary
It’s all Tinkler’s fault. If it weren’t for his obsession with the 1970s band Black Dog, none of this would have happened.
The members of Black Dog performed an infamous publicity stunt on Halig Island: they burned a million dollars on an enormous bonfire. But the stunt backfired, splitting the band for good and increasing the value of their final, recalled album tenfold.
The Vinyl Detective and Nevada accept the challenge to hunt a copy down for Tinkler but soon realize that the search is going to be their most dangerous yet. Narrowly avoiding a killing spree, negotiating deranged fans and being pursued by hack celebrity Stinky Stamner, they discover that perhaps all was not as it seemed on Halig Island - and that in the embers of that fire are clues of a motive for murder....
The fourth book in the hilarious and enthralling Vinyl Detective mystery series.

Don't waste a credit
I found this book so boring that after persevering for a while, I have given up on it. It was a very annoying waste of a credit. I found the storyline pointless and the characters so clichéd that it was painful to listen to. I had so little interest in the story that I just gave up. I hope I can get a refund.

The steam is running out of this series
First the good news...the humour of the writing is still there as is the great narration. However, that's about it. The storylines have now become so ridiculous and the escapes of the main characters guaranteed that the drama simply doesn't exist. All exteremely disappointing and I shall not be pre-ordering volume 5.

favourite book series
I have been delaying listening to this book as I was saving it up for a treat. It has not failed to deliver. I love the querky and the nerdiness of it. I'm not a big music fan but I love a different angle on a crime story and this series delivers in spades.

Possibly the best episode so far with a great scene featuring a washing machine, genuinely tense near death experience and brilliantly twisted baddy.

Bought as a daily deal - made me vinyl detective addict
Well.... I would never have seen this and thought I’d enjoy it but it was a daily deal and I read the reviews and thought - well why not! From here I started right at the beginning with book 1 and I am complete addict! For anyone wondering just go for it! It didn’t spoil it for me reading this first- in fact, it was quite cool to then go back to things referenced in this book that had happened before. Am now a proper Andrew Cartmel fan!

Reunion with old friends
The story may be a bit thin in places, but it's doesn't matter because the characters are so real - old friends by book 4. I love the detail about vynil (which I can remember) it is engaging to be listening to someone talking about a passion.

Frustrating
So much false drama that the potential for real drama gets lost. The characters frequently start jumping to the obviously wrong conclusions and then just as suddenly realise the equally obvious truth. When things go wrong for them the foreshadowing has usually been so heavy handed there is no sense of surprise and the complete lack of realistic consequences remove any meaning from the events. Such a shame as the concept of these books have such promising potential.
