Publisher's Summary

The city of Celum is not much like Liscor at all. While Erin is surrounded by familiar, human faces, she’s far from home and without her inn.

At the same time, a certain ill-tempered Lyonette is squatting in Erin’s inn, and Goblins are on the move. The Goblin Lord’s threat reaches across the entire region, and the Redfang tribe has rallied against him with the Floodplains tribe, although their Chieftains do not agree on some crucial matters....

The continent of Izril is rife with change as a young man named Laken Godart finds himself lost like all the others. Being naturally blind does not increase his odds of survival, either, but with luck, he might survive the winter.

This winter, there is only snow, Goblins, magic, and iambic pentameter.

Book 2 spoiled me

Book 2 was nearly 60 hours the vast majority of followed the titular characters of Arin ans Rioka.

book 3 is half of that, and is incredibly divided between Rioka, Arin, and several other secondary and tertiary characters. The writing is still incredibly good and maybe some of these threads lead to something big in book 4, but I truly wish the book had stuck with the main characters a little more. still a great listen though.

Beautiful Moments and No Plot

Story:

This book was really really scattered compared to the others. People are all over the place doing things that don't relate to any of the other PoVs. If you were to ask me what the plot of this book, I couldn't tell you. Stuff just sort of happens and then stops happening, the end. There's no conclusion. there's no goal that everyone is striving for. It's just... parts of a story moving around with no destination. It also kind of bothered me that a few characters had rather sharp changes in their personalities from previous books without clear reasons why. I think I liked it better when the focus was narrowed to 2 protagonists. I do like hearing about the other people in the world, but I feel like they should be grouped together as separate stories so things aren't so messy.

That said, this book has a great many wonderful moments that are really moving on an emotional level, and that's a sign of good writing. It's just a shame that everything is so aimless right now with no resolution. I'd call it half a book, but stories should have a beginning, middle and end. We don't really have a clearly defined beginning and middle to say that. It might have bee better to group character PoVs together so it feels like their stories are unified, and market this as a collection of short stories. I dunno.

Narration:

The narration is mostly good, but at around the 20-30% mark the sound kept cutting out like they were trying to stich together multiple takes and it was really distracting. This problem went away after a while though. A couple of times voices kinda blurred together. I noticed this mostly in the blind guy's segments when at times I wasn't quite clear who was speaking for a few moments.

You should listen to this book

I’ll make it short and sweet. The character progression get so much better as Pirate Aba unfolds plot lines. You should stick with the series. Also the narrator is dope and is a great voice actor.

130 hours into this series... still enjoying it

This is not a great book. Its 37 hours of thoughts, short stories, and sentiment mashed together with little reason. However, its still good enough to listen to and enjoy.
My favorite part of this 37.5 hour monster was a pure aside. Pirateaba wrote a few hours on this doctor that has nothing whatsoever to do with the rest of the story. That short tale was riveting as an audible book. It reminded me of the pace and structure Brandon Sanderson used in 'the Way of Kings' when the main character dude is charging the enemy as part of a band of slaves while carrying a bridge for the army he supporting. There were some groaners in that section, but it was still just simply great.
The rest of the book was a continuation of the characters we came to know in part one and two. Nothing extraordinary happens... just same old decent story telling by pirateaba.

I'm looking forward to part 4.

She is a manipulative sociopath who will not even broker the thought that she could be wrong when she sets her mind.

I've been hooked since the first book!

Andrea Parsneau is amazing! I love the story line and that the author has created this entire "alternate" world. The story, combined with the performance, makes this series addictive.

I cannot wait for the next installment.

Like Dr Kong of the Myst Village fame. Pirate Aba is redefining the industry!

Imagine, pulled out of you home in the middle of the night. No physical kidnapper, no team of robbers or those seeking to ransom you to your loved ones. But, by magic. To an alternate world that you are not guaranteed to survive in. What would you do? Give up and die or press on and use the lemons to make lemon-aid?

This the latest installment of the series is amazing. The end is where I will start. Wait for it! A door 🚪. Listen in friends. More variants of the Ant people appear. But what does that portend for our heroes? Our favorite Princess is left at the Inn. Will she burn it down or grow as a young lady? What other nasty situations are afoot? Ms Griffin. Will she fight the good Lady Magnolia or fight her Nemesis, the Ninja Maid? This series is so good I am preordering the next installment due in July. Lescor is where my heart 💘 is.

Even as long as it is, there's just not enough!

I'm always wary when a new entry in a series opens with a new character.
However, the author manages to pull you in with ease, before settlings back to more well known characters and, as a good story does, leaves you wanting more of the character you just spent the last chapter or two with.
There are characters I really want to slap, characters I wish there was more of, characters who just satisfy.
Even though it hangs there constantly, the unanswered questions don't get in the way, because the story is engaging enough to keep your mind busy. That's the real take away here. It's unsatisfying stories where you feel cheated about unknown factors, where the author really hasn't a clue and tries to hide the fact.
None of that here.
Just truly awesome, satisfying tale spinning. I have to, but I don't want to wait for more!
Of course, even all that would be for nothing without the spectacular narration of Andrea Parsneau. Honestly one of my favourite readers now.

third book, third best. But still fantastic

Book 3 (Flowers Of Esthelm) in this series is the weakest one so far.
But do let that put you off, after all the first two books were incredibly well done and therefore hard to follow up. FOE felt like a lot of side stories, leaving little time spent with the two main characters. But saying that most of these side stories are very interesting, layed with some interesting characters.

GEM!

30+hrs (great value for a credit) are appreciated but not enough because the story draws you in making you want more.

This is a great addition and we see more of the intricacies of the world. New characters are introduced but it is amazing how quickly pirate aba makes you fall in love with them.

Also the narrator Andrea is world class at her job!

I have preorded the next book, can't wait for its release.

It hooked me

I enjoyed the new characters and would love more, girl who used to be a monster/goblin interaction. Reoka frost farie story development was great as was Kisinger, Picies and other Hornes of Hamarod adventures. I found myself binge listening and really enjoying it. I also appreciated the risk in the human troll interactions of the Emperor.

The Wandering Inn is amazing.

I love this story. I don't usually like audio books, but I am here for this. The voice actor does a good job distinguishing voices, though there is some consistent accents/tones that come up a lot.

You did it again pirateaba

I loved the Erin POV in the first couple of books. She is more of a side character in this book based on the time spent on her. Don't despair Wandering Inn fans. It usually annoys me when there are too many side character POVs but this I loved. Toren gets a big portion, "This is a tale of a skeleton and a monster who used to be a girl" (possibly not a direct quote) There were also several new characters developed with interesting classes. This series is meta aware of itself without being pretentious. I am looking forward to book 4.
