This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Get it!
Well, if you have read the other 5 books in the series I probably don't need to say anything for you to want to get this book. One observation though, the story starts at around 1200 AD. I really would love to get into a debate about this book but anything I say would probably be a spoiler so I will refrain. Not the best in the series but definitely a 5 star by any reference. Another plus is that the narration is very well done (imho) and the audio quality is (thankfully) very good.
Enjoy!

The best book in the series.
This book is the best in the series in my opinion. The story is tighter and the characters are much better developed. the best part is this is the novel that ties all the other books together. that makes it really interesting to see what was going on from the person seen as the enemy for the series to date.

Ties All the Others Together
I know this is the 6th book in a 7 book series, but it ties the entire series together so nicely. It really does a great job of revealing Satan's motives. It also answers the question Satan must come to terms with: Does The Incarnation of Evil evoke the evil in men's souls, or does it just punish it? I think this one is the best out of the whole series. Word of advice, read the other 6 books first.

The length may turn some people away, but I liked
This books is quite a bit longer than the others, as it covers not only events from those books but quite a few centuries before them. We finally get a look into the mind of Satan, the Incarnation of evil, and discover his true agenda. As with Being a Green Mother, Barbara Caruso delivers a very good performance. It's also interesting to learn the real reasons behind Satan's efforts to defeat god.

Love it
For an agnostic man, Piers sure can get into some detail about God and Satan. Somewhere during the middle I noticed a bit of "Dante's inferno". After listening to the first 5 and really disliking Satan, my opinion of him changed when you get to see things from his point of view. Oh call me a heratic, but I find myself sympathizing with this poor character. As always, very well written. Still not crazy bout the narrator although she did a better job in this one than book 5. Maybe because she did not have to do any fairy or nymph voices in this one.

Helluva good book
I had reservations, even superstitious fear about reading this book but, having read Screwtape Letters multiple times, I figured, "Oh what the Hell. Writing a book with sympathy for the Devil was difficult for C.S. Lewis, let's see how Piers Anthony does it with Satan." It was delightful. I even got a little weepy at the end for the guy, and I cheered for him throughout the story. Piers Anthony puts so much thought into each and every character, their motivations and triumphs, that one cannot help but love and admire his work. I've read his books on the incarnations of Death and Time, and this one was just as good or better. The blasphemous themes were less than I expected, even minimal; if I was offended by anything, I trust it will be corrected in the next books as resulting from the characters' misunderstanding of God, Heaven, Holiness, and Faith.

Good book, narration needs improvement
Great story, the whole series is great. The narration is okay. Some names and words are pronounced incorrectly, and it is often hard hearing a narration of man or woman’s part by the opposite sex.
