"A perfect summer book." (NPR)

USA Today best-selling author Samantha Downing is back with her latest sneaky thriller set at a prestigious private school - complete with interfer....

Teddy Crutcher has won Teacher of the Year at the prestigious Belmont Academy, home to the best and brightest.

He says his wife couldn’t be more proud - though no one has seen her in a while.

Teddy really can’t be bothered with a few mysterious deaths on campus that’re looking more and more like murder or with the student digging a little too deep into Teddy’s personal life. His main focus is pushing these kids to their full academic potential.

All he wants is for his colleagues - and the endlessly meddlesome parents - to stay out of his way. If not, well, they’ll get what they deserve.

It’s really too bad that sometimes excellence can come at such a high cost.

Critic Reviews

“Holy revenge, Batman! This is a delicious page-turner with so many layers of revenge, you won’t soon forget. I absolutely loved watching how this unfolded starting with a jerk teacher at a prep school who thinks it’s his job to punish others into being better.... I’m super excited about this one so mark your calendars for July 20th.” (BookRiot)

"I'm a huge fan of Samantha Downing, who is masterful at creating diabolical characters and deliciously chilling plots. An absolutely terrific book!" (Sarah Pekkanen, New York Times best-selling author of The Wife Between Us

"Samantha Downing serves up another cast of deliciously mendacious characters in an exclusive private school setting, where the deadly action drives a brilliantly tense, taut and twisty plot. I may never look at my coffee in the same way again." (Gilly Macmillan, New York Times best-selling author of What She Knew

Very good

This was really good in a guilty pleasure kind of way. It reminded me a lot of Caroline Kepnes “You” series. I love when a suspense/thriller has twists and turns but also has characters that really come to life. Like Kepnes, Downing is great at creating a sociopath who is 3-dimensional by weaving in small details about the characters that make you feel like you really know them. The narrator was fantastic as well.

Good story, but narrator butchers women’s voices

I enjoyed the plot and premise, but oh man… does David Pittu dislike women??? He’s given them all the same nasal, snarky, annoying voice!!! It made parts almost unbearable to listen to. Too bad - it’s otherwise an entertaining listen.

A thrilling turn pager

WOW! What an amazing novel! This was my first Samantha Downing read and it will not be my last. I heard how good this book was and could not wait to start it. Now I see why it was got the reviews it did. The story and plot was incredible. Such a creative and well thought out motive. I loved all the characters and enjoyed Teddy the most. Yes I know he is the villain of the story but his character was so incredible, so sly and mischievous it all worked for him. That said I will say I was a bit disappointed with the ending a tiny bit and that is why I only gave 4 stars. It still is an amazing, thoughtout and creative story which I really did love I just hoped for something different at the end. You'll have to read it yourself to find out all the juicy twists, turns and roller coaster of a ride this book takes you and don't say I didn't tell you so when you find yourself liking Teddy Crutcher.
