Joe Pickett is the new game warden in Twelve Sleep, Wyoming, a town where nearly everyone hunts and the game warden—especially one like Joe who won't take bribes or look the other way—is far from popular. When he finds a local hunting outfitter dead, splayed out on the woodpile behind his state-owned home, he takes it personally. There had to be a reason that the outfitter, with whom he's had run-ins before, chose his backyard, his woodpile to die in.

All three are run with an iron first by The Chief, a giant with a gigantic IQ. His top agent is Alex Mason. Publisher's Summary
Sergeant David Wolf has put his Special Forces days long behind him, settling down as a cop in the small ski resort town of Rocky Points, Colorado. He's a good cop who's seen bad days before, but none quite like this.
As if narrowly escaping an attempt on his life, his addict ex-wife being back in the picture, and complications to his all-but-certain appointment to sheriff weren't enough, he's just received word that his brother has committed suicide in the Alps of Italy.
Devastation and resentment over his only sibling's selfish act quickly gives way to a nagging suspicion that he isn't getting the whole truth. Conviction alone is enough to pull Wolf from pressing events in his ski resort home of Rocky Points, Colorado, to the entirely foreign land of Northern Italy, and into a more deadly situation than he could have possibly imagined.
With the help of a beautiful young officer of the Carabinieri, Wolf must piece together the mystery of his brother's last fateful night without ruffling too many feathers, or paying the ultimate price.
A gritty tale of international mystery and action, Foreign Deceit is the first in the popular David Wolf mystery series.

Excellent listen and story!
Lots of different characters and voices - all well done. I was a bit worried that the author had tried to include too many twists (nomination of new sheriff, local murder investigation, death of his brother and investigation of that murder in Paris) but the author pulled it off. The characters are well developed, the lead is very likable and we root for him. The story moves right along making it hard to find a place to stop - I just kept wanting to see what happens next. Even going so far as to download the next book in the series so that once I finished this one I could pick right up with the story. I hope the other books become available from Audible soon and are performed by Sean Hopkins. Great series.

Beautiful descriptive writing, which is why I could not read very far in this book. The author stopped the story every time he wrote his lovely descriptions. I wanted to push him along. Don't get me wrong, I love fabulous descriptive passages, but not so much of it and not in this kind of novel.

Novel #1 of the 9 novel David Wolf series
Unfortunately the other 8 novels in this wonderful detective thriller series are not yet available in audio format. David Wolf is a an ex-green beret soldier who is now a deputy sheriff in Colorado. The sheriff is retiring and he is in the running for the job. He is notified his brother has committed suicide in Italy and takes a week off to investigate because he is convinced his brother would never kill himself. Most of this novel occurs in Italy. Foreign Deceit is a solid thriller with action and suspense. Narration is also outstanding.
This series starts well but gets even better with later books. I hope audio version will be available for what is a 5 star police procedural series.

Good book, nice listen.
This was my first exposure to Jeff Carson’s work. I got attached to David Wolf, the primary character, which is a good sign, and it was an enjoyable read. Sean Hopkins is a good narrator for these books, although he needs to work on his Italian accent, but a good listen. I’ll go on with the series.

I’m liking this Wolf guy!
Sheriff’s Deputy, David Wolf, is a smart, yet unassuming guy. He doesn’t suffer fools easily…whether it’s solving the death of a teenager in his county, or finding his brother’s killers on foreign soil. Great start to the series and now to binge read/listen to more Wolf!
