Publisher's Summary

The emperor has been ousted from the throne, his bloodline is in question, and war is descending on the capital. Forge, the nefarious business coalition that has been manipulating the political situation from the beginning, has the ultimate weapon at its disposal.

If it was difficult for a small team of outlaws - or, as Amaranthe has decided they should now be called, rebels - to make a difference before, it's a monumental task now.

If she's to return idealistic young Sespian to the throne, earn the exoneration she's sought for so long, and help her closest ally win the respect of the son who detests him, she'll have to employ an unprecedented new scheme, preferably without destroying the city - or herself - in the process.

What a Cliffhanger!

I was so excited when this audio book finally became available. I love this story, the plot, the characters, and the personality. This is Lindsay Buroker's first fantasy series, and it's fantastic! The main problem was waiting for the audio book to come out! However, she informed me she was waiting to be able to release Forged in Blood I & II close to the same time because of a huge cliffhanger. I thought, whatever, just release them, I'm ready to finish this series!

Well, she wasn't wrong. I got to the end and BAM! What a cliffhanger. I held my fist in the air and shook it!

This follows Amaranthe and Sicarius as well as the rest of the team. It digs deeper into Sicarius and his thoughts, which is a nice touch, with him being emotionless the entire time, it's nice to get a peak into his mind. The rest of the characters are brilliant as ever, and the team does all they can to infiltrate the city to allow the emperor to reclaim the throne! But it's not as easy as that. Everyone is trying to get the throne now, and no one knows who to trust.

This reminds me a bit of Wheel of Time as they try and conquer the White Tower, but this is more in the outskirts of the city. However, there were a few parallels that were nice.

I love the series, and can't wait to finish it! The narrator for the audio book does a fantastic job!

Amaranth and Sicarius are back in stumps

Waited seems like forever for this to come out. Love this series. I have listened to the first 5 books and 5.5 seems like 20 times already. Its like listening to an old friend whose adventures are sad / funny and captivating. Can not wait for Part 2:)

Loved it!

This one I love because there was so much insight into the assassin's mind. Previously it was more surface thought and deadpan dialogue between him and others. It's still there but way more thought process. The author can really develop a character and she is my favorite.

What a Cliffhanger!

Oh my gosh, I don’t even want to take the time to review this book I’m so anxious to get onto the next one. Lindsay Buroker has left us with a cliffhanger on this one. The relationships between the characters, the ability to see into their minds and the plots they have to foil make this a book you just don’t want to put down. I only wish I could see this as a movie! Wonderful series!

I was just appointed in this book, I found myself not caring about any of the characters. Lindsey’s books are usually excellent.

I usually like Lindsey brokers books. The dragon blood series was excellent. This book felt like it was disjointed and the characters not well defined. And you really just don’t care what happens to any of them. So I won’t finish the series.

Love it!!

So many fantasy series are so dark, Lindsay infuses a speck of humor that adds some realism to his stories I am enjoying this series very much.

I was first turned on the Buroker by being able to listen to her books as a part of my subscription, and she has quickly become one of my favorite authors.

The Beginning of the End

The secret is out, Sespian is not the true heir; his mother had played away! While Sespian, in the company of Amaranthe, Sicarius, Maldynado, Yara, etc, is making his way back to the capital, Ravido is shoring up support to make a grab for the crown.

Amaranthe, Books and Akstyre have set off to try and destroy the Behemouth. Meanwhile, Sicarius, Sespian, Maldynado and Balisard have set off to Fort Urgot to try and garner support for Sespian from General Ridgecrest. However, when they arrive they find the Fort is surrounded and under siege by Lord Flintcrest's forces.

Meanwhile, it seems most of the Lords are also gathering forces to lay claim to the throne.

This has to be one of the best fantasies I have listened to. I held off listening to Book 1 as I did not wish to be left hanging at the end. I am so glad I did as Book 1 ended in a real cliff hanger, but Book II brings an ending, of sorts.
