Story
Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the starship Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him. He expects to die any second. He's already been attacked by demonic aliens, rogue soldiers, and even the people he thought were his friends. He's survived. Barely. He's entered a strange new world. A world he knows nothing about. A world where hope has been buried beneath the claws of monsters and the boots of a tyrant. They took his wife. He has to find her. He has to survive. Another second. Another breath. He can never give up. He can never rest until she's back in his arms.

Story
Two hundred years ago, aliens invaded Earth. A violent war followed. The enemy won. Some of us escaped, most of us didn’t. On Proxima they flourished - the invasion forgotten. On Earth we floundered - the horror began. Their world is advanced, peaceful, and secure. Our world is broken, savage, and overrun. A new invasion is coming. A hunger that has swallowed half the universe. They don’t care which planet we live on. They want to end us all. But where there is life, there is hope. And where there is hope, there are heroes. This time, vengeance will be ours.

Publisher's Summary
Some things are better off forgotten.
Sheriff Hayden Duke was born on the Pilgrim, and he expects to die on the Pilgrim, like his father, and his father before him.
That's the way things are on a generation starship centuries from home. He's never questioned it. Never thought about it. And why bother? Access points to the ship's controls are sealed, the systems that guide her automated and out of reach. It isn't perfect, but he has all he needs to be content.
Until a malfunction forces his engineer wife to the edge of the habitable zone to inspect the damage.
Until she contacts him, breathless and terrified, to tell him she found a body, and it doesn't belong to anyone on board.
Until he arrives at the scene and discovers both his wife and the body are gone.
The only clue? A bloody handprint beneath a hatch that hasn't opened in hundreds of years.
Until now.

Warning, You have to Wait to hear how it ends
I enjoyed this book very much. I totally wasn't expecting the twist of what lays beyond the boundaries of the main ship.
I am not a fan of cliffhanger endings and didn't realize this book ended on a cliffhanger that I now need to wait til the next book is released to hear how it all wraps up.

Should be One Book
It was great until the big giveaway 90% through. Lost interest at that point and will not bother with the next two books unless they go on sale. It appears like this is headed to be an active shooter book with the sheriff killing everything to try to accomplish his goal. Got boring by the end. The narrator is excellent.

Had Potential. Annoying Narrator. 5/10
[Edit: for those raving about the narrator, go listen to anything read by R C Bray, Christian Rummel or Jefferson Mays and re-evaluate]
Interesting but predictable twist. Story comes across as a bit of a one-dimensional grind at times as you follow only one character, never seeing events unfold from a second or third perspective.
Narrator's attempt to inject a little life and excitement by raising his voice and increasing the tempo at times pulls you out of the story because it just seems so out of place. Also found the pace (of the narration, not the story) to be so slow that I increased the playback speed to something more normal. I also found myself constantly adjusting the volume to account for the narrator's tendency to switch from yelling to low whispered tones. A little editing could have gone a long way here...
I think there was the potential for a LOT more with The Forgotten, and it's possible that the story really hits its stride in the following books. I'm not spending any more credits to find out.

Astonishing original
This book is awesome. Every moment keeps you guessing just what exactly is going on. It’s sheer sci-fi horror brilliance. Think Event Horizon meets Alien. While I hate cliffhangers I’m glad it means another listen. 100/100

Great Narration, weak story.
J. Davis brings a flat character to life with his narration. My primary gripe with this story is that it doesn't flesh the main charater out as much as I'd like. The synopsis seems all the back story we get regarding our protagonist, and we don't hear enough about his ideas, ideals and supporting characters to build an opinion about him before the action starts. Once characters that have a sort of environment about them are introduced, they're just as easily thrown away for the sake of the story, sacrificing character development for plot movement.

Exciting, & kept me interested, however......
The story and it’s fast pace kept me interested. It was nicely unpredictable - and I get bored with predicability. I’m about halfway through Forgotten, and am enjoying how “the mystery deepens “.
In general, the story is a little young; that is, it could be in the YA category. It’s not as intelligent as an Orson Scott Card book, but better than many other Sci-Fi I’ve read.
My biggest complaint is that the main character, the Sheriff, isn’t too sharp. He ignores multiple opportunities that could turn his advantage and makes a lot of decisions that seem to contradict common sense.
Overall, I am enjoying this book and will probably read/listen to book 2 in the series. I would recommend it to anyone look for a fast-paced thriller/mystery that’s light and not too deep, but still quite fun!

Great beginning
This book involves a sheriff who discovers that his whole world is not as he as been taught. He begins a quest to recover his wife when she is abducted and finds that the people in charge do not want him to know about the world.
He is taught that he is on a spacecraft on the way to a new destination; but it turns out that there are secrets within secrets that people will kill to keep.
The narration is great the the story line keeps you in suspense the entire story.

Long winded
Good story but toooo long winded and the narrator was awful, he has a really annoying voice especially when he raised the tone or changed to another character and way too loud when trying to express anger. I was tempted on a few occasions just to give up on the whole experience. Stuck it out but really it was a good story spoilt. Won’t be listening to the next book which is a pity as I wanted to find out what happens but I could listen to the narrator for that long again.

Fast-paced page turner that lacks detail
Great premise with an enticing mystery thats undermined by poor world building, limited characterisation and predictable genre tropes. A shame because the core concept is a good one.
Forgotten certainly has lots of action, but due to shallow detailing it never fully engages. The last few chapters are definitely a step up however, and it's certainly not an awful book, but sadly, nothing really original.

Entertaining as a fill in, but wont follow the set
I enjoyed the start of the book, and but for a couple of narration glitches on the whole it was okay. For me the "bullets just missing the main character" got a bit repetative and the story as it developed just seems to have too many holes in it and was too linear.
The cliff hanger ending...just didn't engage with me.
Not a "bad" book... but I won't follow the series.

Interesting with some nice twists
Begins with a Police drama, and then conspiracy, then action horror and finally post apocolyptic survival. I expected some of the twists, but generally it kept me on my toes. The narration was ok, but took a bit of getting used to and was perhaps a bit over the top in a few bits. Probably down to personal taste there.
Overall a enjoyable story which I would recommend to sifi fans.

Really liked this book, as soon as I finished it I started the next one. A thriller set in space full of twists and turns with a main character that is an old school tough guy. Fantastic from start to finish and very well read.

Poor Narration makes OK story painful to endure.
Cliché riddled and paper cut out characters. could have possibly enjoys as light escapism if not for the appalling narration. overacting to try and add drama where there was none. screaming fight scenes. So many eyeroll moments at how overdone it was. And the replacement swears are SO overused it's painful. Reads like barely edited fanfic.
sufferers serious pacing issues, slipping into moments of nostalgic thought mid action sequence.

Kazablanka's review
Not sure why some of the comments are so negative. This was a pretty solid (I'm tempted to say rollicking) story, well-paced, and well narrated. Yes, the narrator perhaps overdid some of the high-action bits, but I liked the timbre his voice gave the various characters. Unlike many other books I've suffered through, I really enjoyed this, and stayed engaged from start to finish. Imaginative story, well told.

It should be.
Only finished it as was hoping the lead character died. Buy it for someone you don't like.

Voice over was annoying..
Narrator basically yelled all the action scenes... super annoying and not beneficial to suspense building or anything really. Other than that, the rest was reasonably narrated.

exciting and thrilling
this is exciting and thrilling. full of action mystery and surprises. It really shows what a man will do for love. But this is no boring love story. this is like a child's imagination gone wild keeping you ads edge of your seat and want you to know more and more.
