Great story

This is book four in the Frontier Series. Aurora is damaged and in need of repair and upgrade. The Aurora is in obit above the planet of Corinair. In the prior book Aurora fought off a Ta’Akar warship that was going to destroy the planet. Most of the action in this episode takes place on the planet and only toward the end does action return to Aurora when a commando group attempts to take control of the ship. Brown uses this episode to introduce us to the legend of Na Tan. The people of Corinair think Nathan is Na Tan.
Brown is continuing to develop his characters and we lose some people and gain some new ones. It is nice to have characters make mistakes unlike some of the super heroes in some books that are always perfect. The book is well written; the plot twists and turns with lots of action. The various groups on the planet are fighting each other until I wanted to yell at them “wake up; work together the Ta ‘Akar will come back”. Brown is a super story teller and I have enjoyed this series so far. Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating the book.

another solid entry

continuing space opera with decent pace and action. good narrator and good solid story telling. I look forward to the next book.

This is not a book

What disappointed you about Freedom's Dawn?

The story is fine. However Audible should refund to anyone who bought chapter 2 &4 ( I cant call them books) Charge for one but not both While I am enjoying the story I will NEVER start another Ryk Bron series or stand alone book because of the pricing

What other book might you compare Freedom's Dawn to and why?

It a space sage. Not as good as theLost fFeet but I am enjoying it

I hope breaking story's in to 7 hour chapters and selling as books is not a trend!

Space Opera at it's finest! I had the books on Ki

...ndle, upgraded to narration, and now am pleased to say I have them all and cannot wait to binge listen. To have the entire saga read to me after reading and characterizing the players in my own head, to have the gratification of another take on it is thrilling to me.

Go buy them all. And shoot Ryk an email congratulating him on the creation of such a great story with characters that make you wonder what they're doing the day after you finished an episode. Then thank him for the exact same thing.

Have I gone abit fanboy? Probably. Do I care? Not one iota.

It's that good.

Continues to be Great

I wasn't sure I would enjoy a book that centers around one planet, but Ryk Brown continues to deliver. With every new book I find myself excited to see if the Aurora will finally be refitted and fully repaired to 100%, as we've seen what she can do with minimal repairs and severe damage thus far. Book 4 continues to offer continued character development and great narration. At 10 hours, we're also getting twice the book we usually get in the series, which just proves Ryk Brown is an author that listens to his fan base.

Great series easily compared to the Lost Fleet by Jack Campbell.

What a let down!

This book set the background for the rest of the series. With that being said the entire setting should have been covered in one chapter. Lost my attention after the second chapter.

Great Series, Good Military SciFi

Would you listen to Freedom's Dawn again? Why?

No, I am not a repeat listener. Need to keep it fresh. Honor Harrington can be done twice, or Robert Heinlein, but Ryk is not to that level yet.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Really? Nathan Scott is a young James T Kirk, complete with self confident "We can get out of anything" attitude. His XO is miss serious (no pointed ears), and his engineer is Russian, not Scottish. So, they are all my favorites, since Paramount has strangled Trek, we get it under a different name. Doesn't matter, there is no copyright issues, so Mr. Brown can just keep on rollin. If you liked Trek, you will like The Frontiers Saga.

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

This guy is a darn good narrator, who does a good job with inflection, tone and accent.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would be nice, but this is what I drive with 1.5 hrs each way, 3-4 days a week. So I have enough books on tap for another couple of months.

Any additional comments?

Listening to this, by book 4 you just want Ryk to give them a break and let them fix something, make some ammunition, or find some time to wire in some turbo lasers or something. These folks get hosed more than the Kobyashi Maru.

Situations drag on far too long.

What was most disappointing about Ryk Brown’s story?

I got the feeling that he wrote a short story then decided to make it into a book by simply adding detail. The result is a story that takes too long to tell given what transpires.

Did Jeffrey Kafer do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

yes

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Freedom's Dawn?

The scenes that contained endless amounts of detail explaining situations could have been shortened.

Return to Haven

Freedom's Dawn was a return to boring and a drag like the Rings of Haven was. It was Okay at the beginning, drags and makes you angry in the middle, and wins you over yet again at the end. One of the greatest endings which made the pain and anger completely worth it.
