This is by far the best of the group

This is by far, the best of the group.
However, hopefully, most would be start up brokers will read it and realize just how saturated and competitive the business is and how much time and work will be needed just to be able to start up and participate in the business; and wisely decide against pursuing a start up and instead try to go to work for one of the better existing brokerage companies such as CH Robinson Worldwide (CHRW) or Expeditors International of Washington (EXPD).
Both of these firms are very entrepreneurial and if you excel at the business, you are compensated very well, much like if you owned your own brokerage business.

I would note that the author of this book does not even run his own brokerage business; instead working for a mid size freight broker as a mid level manager.
That should tell you all you need to know.

Fantastic read !

Fantastic read

I think this book covered everything you need to know. It talks about insurance, bookkeeping, etc. One of the key things, for me, was the discussion on finding your own niche. Instead of jumping in to a broad area, you need to think about what niche is right for you. It was detailed about strategies and market and industry analysis, which is important to understand before jumping in. The book also listed what the start-up costs will be, which is important to know (do you need financing, how much are you willing to risk/invest, etc.). It also talked about finding customers, shippers, carriers, etc. In other words, it was a very comprehensive book.

Thorough instructions and easy to read / follow

Well written manual to understand the freight industry and how to start working on it. In my personal opinion, the most valuable chapters are the ones where the author explains where to find Carriers and Shippers, and the one telling what a client is looking for in this kind of company.
