Your beginner's French isn't too bad. But it's precisely that: beginner's French. Not the level where you can have full exchanges. While traveling to French-speaking countries can be stressful and full of miscommunication, there is a doable workaround. If you have the basics down, you can target your learning to the situations you expect to encounter most often. This makes the learning manageable and fast, particularly when you have a guide that effectively organizes learning through real-world situations.

Un enregistrement exceptionnel : les cinq volumes des "Misérables", un des plus grands romans de la littérature française, enfin disponibles en livre audio. Jean Valjean, Cosette, les Thénardier, Gavroche, ou encore Javert sont autant de noms qui résonnent au-delà de l'histoire qui les a fait naître. Ces misérables sont décrits à la fois comme des archétypes du genre humain, mais aussi comme les produits d'une société génératrice de pauvreté, d'ignorance et de désespoir.

Great Way To Dive Back Into French
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a quick crash course in French. I hadn't spoken French since taking it as a class in high school, so reading this was the perfect way to recall everything I had learned while also teaching me a lot more! One thing that I especially loved was that words that I learned earlier in the book were used frequently later, so I never forgot them and also learned how to use them in new ways and contexts. I think that this book is perfect for people getting back into the habit of speaking or learning French, as well as people who are complete beginners.
What other book might you compare French: Short Stories for Intermediate Level to and why?
I haven't read other books in French quite yet, but I have been studying on Duolingo. I like this more because I can hear and practice pronounciations a lot better than on Duolingo.
Have you listened to any of Frederic Bibard and Mariem Nouni ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I haven't, but I definitely will now! I really enjoyed listening to this book!
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really, but I was really moved by how much I had learned and improved over the time of reading the book. I didn't know I would relearn my French skills so quickly!
Any additional comments?
Love love love love love love this!

Great book for brushing up French skills!
What made the experience of listening to French: Short Stories for Intermediate Level the most enjoyable?
I took French in high school and college, but it's been about five years since I've had regular contact with the language. I was expecting to have difficulty really understanding anything, but for someone who has had contact with French before, this audiobook is a great refresher. I could see it being difficult to comprehend for someone who is entirely new to hearing French spoken.
I didn't realize how much I missed the language until listening to this book. I can see myself returning to it, especially when I'm on my commute and have time to brush up on listening skills, even as I continue to improve. It's a good way to keep your listening skills sharp when you don't live somewhere where French is spoken often.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I have two favorite parts of this audiobook. First, the fact that it is an audiobook is amazing for someone like me, who had a lot of classroom time spent learning to spell words and read French, but not a ton of time dedicated to learning how to listen and understand the language. And the fact that with the audiobook, you can choose if you want to slow down or speed up the speaker's voice, is so convenient as your skill levels change. When I started I kept it at normal speed, but when I got towards the later chapters, I increased the speaker speed to challenge myself more. This is not something you get from a print book, or even from a CD.
Which character – as performed by Frederic Bibard and Mariem Nouni – was your favorite?
I appreciated the use of two narrators, one female and one male, to read the stories. It makes sure that you don't get used to just one way a certain person speaks the language. Obviously with more real world experience, you'll hear different people speak the language, but I thought it was useful to have two different narrators in one audiobook to start introducing the listener to different ways the language is spoken by different individuals.
I also really enjoyed Mariem Nouni's portion where she breaks down sentences and defines phrases or words in English after she reads the sentences. It helped slow me down and actually check that I was understanding things correctly. She puts an appropriate amount of pause between reading the sentence and switching to translating the sentence, so it doesn't get confusing as to what she's talking about.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Neither, but I'm also not one to laugh/cry during a book, especially since I was brushing up my French skills and definitely more focused on comprehension than my own enjoyment :)

A fun and perfect way to improve french
Where does French: Short Stories for Intermediate Level rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
For me the stories are great, they really let people increase their level of french and try to improve what they've learned at the different french schools because, the narrator speak slow to let people listen to each word and pay attention to the pronunciation.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Monsieur de Boite, he make me laugh and make me remember my uncle, I identfy a lot of characteristics and the narrator make me try to imagine the character.
Which character – as performed by Frederic Bibard and Mariem Nouni – was your favorite?
Frederic Bibard is perfect for me, his pronunciation is perfect and make me understand each word and understand the usare of the different expressions.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It make me laugh but I think that is important to improve a little bit more on the characters, is important to be more expresive during the reading to make people get inside the story and imagine everything.
Any additional comments?
Both narrators are really good, they let people really understand and practice listening in French that is one of the most important things to comunicate with people.

Dabbling in French
Would you consider the audio edition of French: Short Stories for Intermediate Level to be better than the print version?
If you struggle with listening to a French accent, I highly recommend this audio edition because I found that the more I listened, the easier it was for me to understand the accent and enjoying the stories made it all the better.
What does Frederic Bibard and Mariem Nouni bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrators speak slowly and clearly allowing for easy understanding of each story and allows for you to learn proper pronunciation.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I enjoyed how I was able to listen to it on the go with the Audible app on my smartphone. I am very busy and found this feature handy. Once you get listening, its hard to stop!
Any additional comments?
I have always been fascinated with the French culture, but always too shy to take a French class. This book allowed me to explore the language on my own without the fear of having to speak in front of a class like in high school. Yikes! This book improved my language proficiency and I would recommend it to anyone looking to dive in or brush up on their French.

I really enjoy this audiobook
If you could sum up French: Short Stories for Intermediate Level in three words, what would they be?
Catching, diverse, entertaining
Who was your favorite character and why?
The final ones, because the author included vocabulary in English-French for those words and terms a little bit more complicated.
Have you listened to any of Frederic Bibard and Mariem Nouni ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I did not
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, for me it is a book to listen in parts
Any additional comments?
it has very entertaining stories with an excellent narration that manage to get you trap in each chapter. If you are not very familiar with this accent like me, first it will be a little complicated to understand but after listening to the first stories you begin to understand a little more because of the clear and paused way the narrators have to speak.
Something that I appreciate a lot is the presence of masculine and feminine voices in the narration that achieves the objective of accustoming the listener to the different tonalities of the language.
For a non-native english speaker can be a little difficult to understand the instructions at first and it is because the narrator presents a strong French accent. In conclusion I can recommend this audiobook to all people who want to start tuning their ear to this language, or anyone who enjoys good stories in this fantastic language.

Highly recommend
What an incredible book of short stories for studying French. I am so impressed! I studied Spanish and Italian before and dabbled a little in the French. I needed to know some of it because I used to sing in a choir that had French songs part of their repertoire. I wish I would've came across this then because that would've been such a huge help!
I got the audible version first and loved it! I can clean and cook and listen to it all at the same time. It definitely refreshed my memory and even words I didn't study I was able to pick up so easily because of the storyline. My favorite part is being able to listen to it on the go which it also helps you learn pronunciation better than just reading it yourself. I even showed this to my mom, who took French when she was in High school and she really liked it. She hasn't practiced it much after, but after listening to it for a while she started remembering phrases she learned and poems. How cool is my mom?
Anyways, I got to give a huge thumbs up to this book because it makes it so easy to learn French and I thought I'm going to just give up. Definitely recommend people get it. It is so worth your time and your money.

Perfect aid for French pronunciation!!
This book is a wonderful refresher for those who have studied French and for some reason has stopped studying like me! It is a great aid for practicing pronunciation especially because you can download the pdf file. The pdf file allows me to read along the audio book. Also the voice is so clear and it helps you say the words with the right accent which is very important in the French language. I really love that it is an audio book because I can just play it anytime, when I'm doing household chores or even out for a run or walk. This really is a must have for anybody who is learning the language!

Enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this audiobook. The reader speaks very slowly and clearly so that even I, who studied French years ago, was able to follow along and recognize many words. I think this book can be very helpful for those who know some French and want to practice their comprehension of the language more. The sentences are clear so it allows you to build practice vocabulary, improve grammar, and generally just enjoy nice stories. I’d definitely recommend the book!

Super helpful audiobook
I have studied French in the past, but am by no means fluent in the language, so this audiobook has been a great addition to my French studies. It's been such a help for learning the correct pronunciation, as the audio is very easy to follow along and comprehend. It was especially helpful to have the PDF alongside the audiobook. I had no technical issues at all. Very happy to have found this audiobook and would recommend it to all!

Great and Helpful Book
The book concept is a very nice idea. The first 3 chapters (which are fully English) are very helpful though it is sometimes hard to tell the words that are being said because of the accent. The other chapters (which are mostly French) are read very nicely and clearly as well as at a fair speed. It is a very helpful audio book for people who want to teach themselves French at a higher level or enhance/improve on what they already know. It would be better if there was a little pause at the beginning of chapters so that, if you are continuously listening, you will know that you are on a new chapter. Also, the reader doing the vocabulary recap is very helpful as it is a repetition of certain words on their own and in sentences which are regularly used. Overall, this audiobook is very useful.

Took me back to my GCSE French class!
Having studied French to GCSE level twelve years ago, I was intrigued to find out what I’d remember.
First off, when it comes to learning any language whether its Japanese or South Afrikaan, being able to listen and understand the language is just as, if not more important than verbal abilities. Thankfully, the short stories narrated b Frederic Bibard and Mariem Nouni are spoken slowly enough to grasp the topic and gain a sound understanding of the language; in terms of pronunciation and grammar.
I’d recommend this title to any French enthusiast with a basic knowledge of the language interested in strengthening their skills in the language.

Engaging, well-structured and easy to learn from.
What did you like most about French: Short Stories for Intermediate Level?
I studied French (from beginner to intermediate) at an online university Scotland. Since everything was online, I never really had the chance to practice speaking. Moreover, the audio I learned from was always straight forward grammar lessons, so it was not very engaging. It had been a couple years since studying and my French had gotten pretty rusty, so I got "French Short Stories for Intermediate Level" to get back into it. This book has really added to my spoken French, lexical repertoire and understanding of grammar. I felt the structure was excellent, both how new phrases and words are covered after every story and how each story is narrated three times as different rates. I could then listen to the slow versions and read along with the narrator, which helped me obtain a grasp of speaking more fluidly. I could then go on to a different speed, which was exciting. What's also great is the variety of new phrases I learned from the book. They are very useful for everyday conversation; for example "Je n’irai pas jusqu’à dire que" and "Tant mieux alors"!
Overall, I would highly recommend this audio book if you are looking to sharpen up your vocabulary and spoken French.

Great for bridging the gap!
This audiobook was really great for improving my French. As someone born in a different country to my parents, my French had been out of touch for a while. This was a good boost to my confidence and at strengthening the French I had already gleamed from family. The introduction was very clear in explaining the aims of the book and how to use it to get the best from it. The words of the book were read at a good pace and a clear accent. With a range of stories from Sixth Form schools to picnics and holidays integrated with vocabulary recaps - I would definitely recommend this book.

Wonderful educational material!
I have thoroughly enjoyed the knowledge this book & audio have provided me with. As a French language beginner, I have found it is very easy to follow the story on the PDF because the narrators do not rush anywhere and they make sure they pronounce every word very clearly. The PDF has translations of some words after every paragraph which really helps with understanding because you can learn all the words as you go due to them being divided into smaller, more manageable chunks. All the narrators make sure their passion for the language translates through their voice which makes the audio exciting rather than monotonic. At the end of every story, you are given a sample summary of the story but the most important thing is that you get asked to write one yourself! I have found that writing a short summary greatly improves my learning & understanding of the French language.
Highly recommend!

Amazing audio book.
Audio book is amazing and I will definitely recommend to all my working colleagues.French was my second language during my school days and I haven't concentrated much and I Just know the basics.During my last month trip to France I managed with basics but still struggled a lot in using the transport. After completing all the chapters my confidence has increased a lot and able to talk with my colleagues with out thinking for the next word.Audio is very clear and liked the way they translated in English. Chapters are very much interesting and helped me to improve a lot.I would suggest to pause in between so that It will be easy for the learners and no need to replay to listen again.

Lucid and helpful
Great for those who already know rudimentary French and are trying to supplement their langauge skills; I have not learned French in a long time, but the clear pronunciation and expansive vocabulary of this audiobook was extremely helpful. Its format as a series of stories gives an element of entertainment for a child attempting to learn. The recording is very good and extremely helpful in terms of accent and enunciation, elements that are not available in non-audio texts.

Wonderful way to learn and improve your French
I studied French at school for 4 years but I stopped listening or speaking French for many years. This book is a great way to get back on track with my learning process, the pronunciation is very clear and the narrator suggests different speeds and resources such as PDFs according to your level, you can listen to the book multiple times at a different speed once you feel confident.
I would recommend this book to those who already started learning French and need to improve the grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, you will have no problem to understand the book using the glossary included in the PDF.
The book is divided in micro-stories that are 20-30mins long so you can listen to it without getting exhausted. It's very fun to learn through stories!

Clear, concise and engaging
An interesting and different way to pick up a language, this audiobook gives clear instructions on how to make the most of the resources given. When listening to these short stories which revolve around useful situations i.e talking about holidays, moving homes and cooking, I tended to read the stories before listening to gather a basic understanding. The short stories are a great way to help pronunciation and I found it especially helpful to read along with the stories to aid my learning further.
The vocabulary recaps after each chapter are very helpful and could be used to memorise vocabulary if you enjoy learning this way also. Overall a more enjoyable to learn a language (which to me has always been a daunting task).
