We are lonelier than ever. The average American hasn't made a new friend in the last five years. Research has shown that people with close friends are happier, healthier, and live longer than people who lack strong social bonds. But why - when we are seemingly more connected than ever before - can it feel so difficult to keep those bonds alive and well? Why do we spend only four percent of our time with friends? In this warm, inspiring guide, Adam "Smiley" Poswolsky proposes a new solution for the mounting pressures of modern life: Focus on your friendships.

When it comes to adult friendships, we’re woefully inept: We barely manage to show up for our own commitments, let alone maintain our relationships. What’s more, we’re living in an uncharted social landscape with new conventions on how to relate - one where actual phone calls are reserved for Mom (if anyone), “dropping in” is unheard-of, and “flaking out” is routine.

Decent material, horrible narration
So many good points made in this book about how we make and keep friendships, but the narration is so horrible it makes it hard to listen to. I'd skip the audible version and consider the book version instead. It's like a bad computer voice reading the words in an odd, disconnected manner.

Practical tools for making deep genuine friends
A few years ago- I vividly remember feeling dissatisfied with the amount of genuine girl friends I had. Now, I feel like I almost have more than I can manage. This good gave me the tools to take strangers that I just met and turn them into the closest of friends. The amount of women that have thanked me for taking the initiative and creating the opportunity for our circle to become a circle is so gratifying. This is a book I have listened to time and time again as I know there is still more wisdom I can reap. But like all books - it’s only amazing if you take action on her suggestions.
