Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets. Secrets that cost us everything to keep. That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to. Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence, due to my illness, and all were punished.

Publisher's Summary
Captivating and action-packed, From Blood and Ash is a sexy, addictive, and unexpected fantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Laura Thalassa.
A Maiden...
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.
A Duty...
The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.
A Kingdom...
Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.
Critic Reviews
"Dreamy, twisty, steamy escapism. Take me back!" --New York Times bestseller Wendy Higgins
“Jennifer Armentrout has the power to control my emotions with every word she writes. From swooning to crying to racing through the pages to find out what happens next, I couldn't stop reading about Hawke and Poppy, and you won't be able to either.” --Brigid Kemmerer, New York Times bestselling author of A Curse So Dark and Lonely
"Narrator Stina Nielsen enthralls with this sumptuous romance, which highlights her ability to thoroughly immerse listeners in its fantasy world.… Nielsen employs a wide range of inflections, from the warm, breathless tone of the heroine to the appealing accent of Hawke, the love interest, combining them in the sensual scenes they share." --AudioFile Magazine, An Earphones Award Winner

Hum - just hum
I actually really enjoyed this book, I just don’t really know why...
Good points:
- It’s a totally different take on the whole paranormal romance vampire, werewolf, zombie idea. I enjoyed it wasn’t just in your face vampire and werewolf. There are different names associated with them that bring them out of the eye rolling same old story.
- The idea of the story is new and not just a rehash or one different love triangle or another
- I enjoyed that the main character isn’t a useless fawn but also isn’t all balls up.
- I liked the secondary characters.
Bad points:
- I HATED the fact that there is abuse. Not only that there is abuse but the author makes you live through it. Not ok. TRIGGERS!
- I don’t think I like the male lead. It’s not even the whole good guy/bad guy/good guy thing. It’s not the betrayal. It’s not lies or anything like that. It just honestly feels like he is playing her through the entire book. I don’t buy the love.
- The whole idea that she is the most important thing to the whole nation but no one ever checks on her from the palace. If she is going to save the whole of everything forever then maybe see if her keeper is beating the hell out of her maybe once
- I don’t mentally understand how someone who lived such a sheltered life, doesn’t really have family who loves her, is abused by her overseers, isn’t really allowed to socialize, and who is basically kept in a closet her entire life can be a strong independent person. That’s not how it works.
Am I going to get the second book? Yes, most likely. I want to see where the story goes. Am I going to have this books on my list of books I listen to time and time again? Nope.

You saw love; I saw a dumpster fire.
Dear Audible Friends & Followers:
I would like to state for the official review
that I:
* respect all your positive reviews around this book.
* am a sucker for love a great love story.
BUT GUYS. This ish is pretty low grade quality... everything? Let’s please call a spade a spade.
So here’s what I wasn’t in the mood for:
- The insane amount of abuse. Gross. Boo. Hiss. My feminist mood was shaking her fists.
- Overall Execution:
Example 1: The voice - I just didn’t expect the voice to be so modern in this world where electricity was a BFD. I kind of wish that Armentrout would have picked a century lane and stayed in it- because the voice felt too casual/ sloppy/clunky as it went back and forth. I admit, I’m probably a little snobby about this because of my love for Outlander.
Example 2: Pacing - I can only wallow in repetitive self pity for so long. It felt like Armentrout was getting stuck in wording mini-circles.
The Audible Narrator: Meh. I’m sure Nielsen did her best but I ended up trying to go back to Kindle.

Great if you are into harlequin romance
I get a little bit of character building and descriptions of love to help keep a story going. However seriously this novel was written for young adults who are just blossoming into adulthood. It is ridiculously long on the descriptions of love scenes and tender moments between characters. I bet that there is a group of people that like fantasy and like love stories. This book is for them.

Abysmal
This book is appallingly bad. I get it's YA. But young adult readers deserve better than to have their intelligence insulted by this garbage. I hate living in the protagonist's head. She's like the La Croix Sparkling water of the tired CHOSEN ONE female lead trope. An extremely watered down character lacking any substance. And of course she spends more time swooning over the PERFECT, yet utterly boring love interest than she does worrying about people dying around her. Extremely little happens in the first 20 or so chapters and very little writing is spent on what does occur that might be interesting. Even the "steamy" stuff is utterly laughable because I don't give a damn about either of the 2 protags and their "witty banter" is eye-rollingly dumb.
I'd sure like to know more about the fantasy world in which the characters live but what much us withheld and the story doesn't seem to really use the setting as anything but an unessecessary backdrop.
I wasn't expecting to read this to challenge my intellect. But it's not even a decent guilty pleasure. This makes Twilight look like The Great Gatsby.
I tend to finish every novel no matter how bad. I can't listen to another word of this drivel.
On another note, the narrator does a good job. There. That's the only good thing I can say....

So freaking good!
I've known for years that Jennifer could spin a tale. But this one is her best. This is the best fantasy novel I've read since The Bridge Kingdom. I'm not even sure that I can wait for the audio of the 2nd book. I will be taking the needed time to read it. The narration was perfectly performed which made the story even better. I wish that I could give this book 10 stars!!!

What an amazing story!!
I have been hearing a lot about the story of the past couple months. It’s been getting wonderful reviews but I decided to wait until the audiobook was out before I read it. Let me tell you the story was just as good if not better than everyone has been saying. Poppy and Hawke are amazing together. They have a very special relationship, the witty banter their sizzling chemistry and their deep understanding of one another is amazing to watch unfold. The only sad thing I have to say is that I have to wait till December for the next one to come out an audiobook. But I am so excited to see where the story goes.

I enjoyed the story but honestly this book could of been cut in half. It was way too long and a bit repetitive. I almost gave up and it does not start to pick up till your about 1/2 way through. I will buy book 2 but not sure it’s worth the price of buying the audio version again.

Tired, abusive tropes not saved by great narration
I am beginning to wish their could be a new discrete catagory in YA and ‘romance’ for abusive situations. In this one we have rape by deception, the enduring favourite of power dynamics, Some gaslighting and trauma bonding. With werewolves and vampires . No- I won’t be getting the sequels and I’m sad this stuff is sold without caveat ( though it should be available - I’m not a book banner - just sell it as what it is - emotional abuse erotica lite )
Any one just want to read a story with some minor character flaws and some remorse and character growth and reparation for those as they stumble forward ?

YA smut
**Spoiler**
If I had listened to this book in my late teens I think I would have thought it was brilliant. Now I prefer my fantasy with an epic storyline and well developed characters.
So if your looking for a racy fantasy, then this book is for you. If your not so interested in an eighteen year old cashing in her V card, save that credit!

Be patient! It's worth it!
The story starts slow, it really drags on at first, at the 5th hour mark, I wondered why am I listening to this?! From the middle to the end it's a rollercoaster! I went from 😒 to 😱 ... The move she pulled after the fight in the room got me singing cell block tango just!!!!! Love it! JLA never disappoints!

Damn!!!!!
Let me firstly just stand open mouthed at this ending......YES!!!!! Now to the review.....
Damn does this book hit the stop for fantasy, romance, sexiness, storyline, hot bad boys and everything else you could ever want in a book! I was a bit skeptical when I started as alot of bookies had referenced it as a romance, but Pixie dust it is more than that!!!
The storyline was amazing and flowed like a perfect river into the ocean that was the mystery, world and characters surrounding you. The writing.....I mean do I have to say more than WOW!!! Also....not going to lie...there was definitely some very dirty and hot as hell scenes that a girl will dream of all night and daydream of all day. DAMN! the word...Porn comes to mind is all I say. It just made me love the book even more! Damn that man too.....swoon worth or bed worthy...you take your pick. All I'm saying is...Rhysand you got serious competition!
So. Will I read the sequel? I ordered if while I was half way though the book yesterday....so yes and I'll like to see you try and stop me!

Predictable and annoying
So I am always down for a fantasy romance - like every day of the week - but this book was the most frustrating read in a while! The voice actress was fab. She did a great job with what she had to work with, but the lead female protagonist is such a moron! It's so hard to enjoy the good bits of the story when the main character is too naive to piece together even the most basic of clues.
The biggest issue for me if the portrayal of the romance in this book. The main characters hit each other, bitr and STAB each other; the love interest drags her by the hair in the snow (after which they have sex ?!) - not really sexy in my opinion.
Positives? The action is well written and there are a couple of convincing characters. I will read the second one but will hope that the lead gets her shit together!

Good book, excellent narration
Story was a bit predictable, I knew the “ reveal” from the first hint dropped, and when they finally got to it I almost died of second hand embarrassment. But I liked it overall and will definitely continue with the series, honestly I would continue just for the narrator, she was amazing

The narrator was good
Personally I agree with other reviews. This ya book was thoroughly predictable. I bought this book as it was compared positively with Sarah j mass books. It does not compare. The narrator was good and made some good choices given the plot.
I personally Don not feel the need to continue with this series

Not what I expected but enjoyable read!
At first I wasn’t sure this book was for me. I struggled to connect with the story at first and all the references to their world were going over my head. I felt it was going so slow and to be honest I was a little bored because I didn’t really understand what was going on. I soon fell in love with the characters though and everything began to make sense. Poppy is a bad ass! She’s so strong & brave. I loved her! And Hawke... well he was just swoon worthy. He was so smooth it was hard not to love him. By the end of this book I was so into it. I was hanging on every word and couldn’t wait for all the answers to reveal themselves. I had started to suspect where the story was going to turn but I definitely didn’t see all of the events/truths coming. This was the longest book I’d ever read and the first in this genre so I think that’s why I felt like it was so drawn out and that’s why I was a little disinterested at the beginning but I’m so glad I stuck with it and finished the book. Once the action kicked in I was enthralled. The story was exciting, a little thrilling at times, a bit scary, a whole lot angsty, funny & super sad too at times as well. I laughed a lot, I cried a couple of times & I even gasped at things that happened... I really had all the feels reading this. The narrator was fantastic and I loved the voice she did for Hawke. I felt she was perfect for Poppy too. She portrayed Poppy’s mischievous & witty personality perfectly. Awesome performance!

Slow start but gets better
i found this book really slow & pretty uneventful to start with, and nestly gave up. however i hung in there and the pace & interest of storyline does get better. Pleasant narrator.

Standard storyline, frustrating narrator
I will preface this by saying that I enjoyed this book. Yes the heroine follows some of the same stereotypical densities and there are so many cliches, but for a relaxed weekend read, I wasn't too disappointed.
However, the narrator at times slips in and out of accents, and it becomes confusing as to who is talking, especially between Poppy and Tawny, and Hawk's occasional lapses in any accent whatsoever. Probably one to reread on paper.
So all in all, enjoyable- so long as you don't have high expectations

I just..... Wow
So I have seen this in a lot of pages and decided to give it a try... I'm glad I did because I got sucked in and when I finished the book I realized it was 5am but I am looking forward to reading the next one.
This book is absolutely worth the time and money. The narrator was good too. Wish her male voices were a bit deeper though but not bad I guess.
The story worth it.
