Publisher's Summary

Meet Ella, on the brink of turning 30 and full of regret for a life only half lived.

In a haze of heartbreak after splitting up with the man she thought she was going to marry, she makes the only decision that seems rational and buys a one-way ticket to Paris, embarking on a pilgrimage of food, wine, and joie de vivre.

After arriving, Ella struggles to grasp the nuances of French manners and friendship. She soon finds herself caught between two men who inhabit opposite ends of the Paris food scene, getting wined and dined by one and inadvertently making a bet to try every type of French cheese with the other.

As the seasons change, Ella realizes that there's more to life in France than champagne and cheese. At some point the Eiffel Tower stops sparkling, and she needs to decide where her heart truly lies.

Must love cheese…

I was surprised how much I like this story. It was cute and easy listened. You must love cheese to truly enjoy this. If you don’t like cheese. It’s still a good story and good escape for a few hours. Performance was good. Highly recommend

Pretentious or Sophisticated, Weird or Unique?

Wellllll, this was an odd book for me. I didn't dislike it enough to stop but several things rubbed me the wrong way.

I'll start by stating it is a HEA, and there is a good message buried in the end. Sone parts were cute,, some funny,, some cringe worthy (mean girl PG rated but overtly suggestive)
The narration is very good.
but
The whole thing about the obsession with cheese, ... really? I guess that is a unique part of the story if your a cheese monger though others,, like myself might find it weird. Since I do love cheese,, I could have looked past that but I just could not like the MC and at times I HATED her! She was such a shallow, judgemental, self-centered person!! wow
I guess she was supposed to be beautiful because I couldn't figure out why these men were attracted to her.... and
my mind kept screaming pretentious due to the vocabulary used. Perhaps it is because I'm an American an there was SO much Ausie? Brit? lingo/slang it was hard to follow some parts. Then there was the French -oui- being set in Paris you can imagine there was a load of French spoken. The problem was/is I do not speak French fluently (un petit peu), and the author only sometimes translated what was said. Perhaps a more sophisticated reader would appreciate this style but I just found it frustrating.

If you want a wildly quirky, over the top story about a super moody gal who finallyrealizes she'slooking for love in all the wrong places, then this is your book... could be fun. Overall a mixed bag for me.

A Delightful Parisian Adventure

This book is an easy, enjoyable and 'feel good' listen. It invokes a longing for Paris and a good cheese. The characters are light, fun and likable and even though the book started with the dramatic and familiar scene of 'girl expecting proposal, boy dumps girl' and there is a French stalker, it is mostly drama free and a perfect pleasant summer book. The only annoying thing is the narrator's pronunciation of the French 'R' which sounds more Romanian than French, otherwise, she's great.

Light and Easy but Well-Written (and Narrated)

This book was the escape and breath of fresh air that I needed. It’s not going win literary awards but it’s a fun, well-told romantic comedy that is just what a girl needs to hear sometimes.

A fun, easy listen

a great story when you need something easy on the ear and brain. it's the kind of story you already know and appreciate, with reminders of the importance of loving and being yourself. and of course, there's Paris as the other main character.

Easy peasy

Just a light, fun and easy peasy listen to accompany me on the treadmill. Don't expect anything substantial and you won't be disappointed.

Well written

I really enjoyed this book, it was not what I thought originally but it turned out to be a great metaphor of life through the comfort of cheese. Narrator was very good as I am not usually a fan of single narration but she did well in all the voices and accents. You saw this character finally grow, realize past mistakes and take ownership in order to move on. Highly recommend.
