Publisher's Summary

Emma Wilkes is on the run from her ex-boyfriend - with a stolen laptop containing evidence of his crimes. When she meets a hot guy in a truck stop bar, she pretends to be his date, hoping to throw her ex's hit squad off her trail.

Alpha wolf Jace Monroe has only weeks to find a true mate and bond with her, or he'll lose his pack and his territory. To him, the stranger coming on to him is just a delectably curvy distraction from his troubles. But to his wolf, she's the one.

So when Emma steals Jace's motorcycle and vanishes from his motel room in the middle of the night, Jace vows to track her down and find out who she really is - a conniving con woman or the mate he's been waiting for all his life. But can he find her - and persuade her to trust him - before time runs out for both of them?

Contains mature themes.

I really enjoyed the whole Silverlake shifter series. There was the perfect combination of action , heat, and humor. Also, Holly Jackson is one of my favorite narrators.

Literally could not stop listening!!!!

I’m not usually one to criticize another author because well I am too. I may not be a published one like Ms. Anastasia Wilde but damn this book is one of the best werewolf/romance I’ve ever read! And that’s a lot! I highly recommend this book. I had fun listening and I think you will too.

Good start to new series

This was an enjoyable book. Interesting take on the weight on an alpha's shoulders. Hollie Jackson did a wonderful job as narrator.

Mediocre at best!

This book was a cute short story that was pretty much just mediocre! I'm sorry to say, Hollie Jackson did not do well narrating this story. In fact, she gave the main character Emma "aka" Darlene multiple voices and you never knew what voice you were going to get when she spoke, it was very annoying. Jace Munroe who is an Alpha and should have had a low sexy, semi dangerous voice did not sound sexy or dangerous at all, and I just could not connect to the characters!

I will not be continuing with this series as it really wasn't for me.

When you want to get straight to it

Would you rather have a shifter romance with great dialogue, rich character development, robust world building and complex mystery… but also have five hours too much story?

Or, would you rather get straight to the action, nooky, and cheese … even if you end up with more of a cliff notes novella that’s five hours short of backstories, settings, or smart plots to make it more than just a quick, shallow listen?

If you answered yes to that last question, then this story if for you. There’s a whole lotta insta going on here, from the action to the injury to the “poof” all better magical healing, not to mention the insta-romance stuff like jumping each other the night they meet, almost as quickly professing insta-love, and then on to the HEA with very little suspense. There’s a rather implausible reason for a gang of “them” to be out to capture/kill our girl. And there’s only enough character details to support the whole fated mates storyline. For example, there’s a blink and you’ll miss it discussion where it appears she’s pleasantly plump… and I probably did blink and miss the color of her eyes. The big bad only appears long enough to leer and utter some cliche lines while holding the damsel in peril. I could go on, but you get the picture.

For the $1 sale price, and bumped up to 1.5x, this was a decent shifter romance clocking in just over 3 hrs. As a novella, I forgive the flaws and focus on the fun. There were three nooky scenes and roughly two dozen unnecessary F 💣m plus comic-level violence and only redshirt death.
I might move on if book 2 goes on sale.

Awesome

I loved the surface story. Love, pain, mystery. I did feel that it was a surface story. More info on her past to include her family, Grizzly, and her ex. The love part was really fast and may have been better if more catch and release. Maybe they hide out together for more than a few hours. The ex drama felt unfulfilling with what happened at the end, the whole story led up to it. More wow factor! Still loved it! There was a unique take on the shifter mating process that was awesome.
