Kinda good? Mostly not? Edit maybe?

Boy I wish he would’ve described the shock and feeling of Phoebe growing up and living on her own more. Just kidding. Or am I kidding? Or is it kidding if it’s not funny? Or am I just not funny? Or am I I just copying the authors writing technique to make a point about how easy it is to fill a book with 70% garbledygook?

Inexplicably the mass murderers daughter can’t convince herself of the necessity to kill a mind controlling mass murder. Could it just be a crappy plot device? yeah probably

Anyway I might buy the next one if I’m in the mood to listen to the mind ramblings of an author pretending to be a vampire.

Why?

Don't waste your credit or money. The depressed Vampire/Wizard has gotten old. For 30 hrs you will be subjected to the nonsense of Eric's daughter's life. What a terrible audio book.

My least favorite book of the series.

I can't seem to get any sort of attachment to Touta (did I spell that right?). I just don't care about the place or any of the characters. I was also really annoyed by the daughter ( to the point that I can't seem to think of her name right now) and her refusal to take the very good advice her pop kept giving her. Freaking annoying character! I found myself skipping forward every time Halar/Eric was talking to his other self. I just can't listen to god Halar explain the same things over and over again, followed by begging for more divinity wheels. All in all, this book was a bit disappointing in my opinion. That said, I do plan on continuing to follow this series in hopes the next one is better.

Reads like fan fiction, really bad fan fiction

I don't often write reviews but if I can convince one person to not waste 42 hours of their life listening to this nonsense then my pain and suffering will have been worth something. This book was a huge disappointment and I came in with LOW expectations. If you've made it to this point in the series you know what your buying. This series is the same story over and over again. badass wizard/vampire/god minds his own business until someone rudely interjects themselves into his private affairs. hes super polite and forgiving about it until said person crosses a line and he unleashes his badass powers on the guy. its the same story over and over again and I love it. All 6 of the previous books follow this formula on a loop. I bought this book hoping for more of the same. Unfortunately through all these books while telling that same story the author uses some of the same bad writing tricks. he'll give an analogy for how some obscure bit of made up magic works, then say "No, that's not right" and give another long winded analogy, "or no its more like this " enter third long winded analogy. "Hmmm, No that's still not right. Maybe its more like this... or maybe its like that... or maybe I'm a sad vampire god and I'll never be able to describe it blah blah blah blah." NONSENSE!!!!! The author does this constantly it adds nothing to the story it just eats up pages. Its how the author turns a 5 hour audio book into a 42 hour audio book. Its cheap and shitty and I haven't cared until now because he always got back to the good bloody vampire god vengeance stuff. Until this book. This book is all that nonsense and about 30 minutes of good stuff. No lie, I listened to 41.5 hours of that bullshit time wasting nonsense for 30 minutes of bloody, angry, vampire god action. I feel cheated. It reminds me of the bad twilight fan fiction my high school girlfriend used to write. I read her shitty fan fiction because she was the first girl to let me see her naked. There is no similar payoff for reading this crappy fan fiction. Save your time and your credits.

Disappointing

I was expecting, nay, hoping for some forward progress in the story. What I found was yet another diversion down yet another storyline in another world and in another time. The relationship with Phoebe is described in such detail that I’m going to call it now: Alden is going to kill her. The finale in Tauta felt rushed, and was a letdown. We’re basically exactly where we were when the book started, except Phoebe is an adult now. I’m glad I read it because I love the overall story, but I was left feeling frustrated.

I can’t wait for the next Sanderson/Stormlight to come out.

Boring

This author likes to ramble and ramble and ramble. His prior books he'd at least toss in a little action. This one however is 99.9% boring rambling nonsense and virtually nothing interesting happens. Sure he has a few plot lines that could have lead somewhere, but nope he decided to just keep his main character rambling on and on. If I'm desperate maybe I'll continue. Never was my favorite series, this was by far the worse of them.

Hi

I don’t like how he treats His daughter he’s too protective and is pretty much telling her she can do whatever she wants and it sounds like he wouldn’t care if she was a criminal or a tyrant. He spoiled her too much. Very little is happening in this book and I hate her no killing thing she’s probably gonna die. I hate how lazy he is and nothings exciting really exciting is happening. He never really explains why she should not do this or that he just lets her do whatever she wants. I wish he change A bit I wish he’s confidant not lazy and less self loathing he just seems like a disappointment. He seems like he does not care about anything except his daughter and a few friends and he seem’s arrogant and he does not seem smart sometimes and why in this book does he seem like a wizard instead of at night Lord. I think the book kind of went downhill because of his daughter he’s less killing bad people and just seems like a lazy person. In the next book could you at least make him more confident in him self and less depressed and not lazy and make him into something different instead of a depressed vampire. all the other books were exciting but this one was bad I wish he would go out and find trouble instead of pointing out he could die and such of course he can and all the things he does he can die from. I wish he has an adventurous side to him I liked Mary she makes him go on exciting adventures. it just seems like he’s not really doing anything in this book. I just want him to act like a night lord it seems like this book was not finished when it was published. I don’t like how he thinks, he thinks because he cause’s trouble that he should do nothing at all go be a hermit. I don’t like this him right now I hate his daughter it made the book boring it was a good book but it would be better without the daughter he barely interact with anyone only those he knows instead of making new friends. Please I’m begging you make the next book better because this one was not that great it was good and bad at the same time. I know making a book is hard and all but at least make the next book exciting or better and the book was too focused on his daughter.

Going downhill

If you love this series, you're likely to be disappointed. The last installment left a while lot unresolved, which was a... bit of a let down, and a departure from the previous books. I hoped it was a fluke, and that Whited would return to the streak of homeruns that are his trademark for the Night lord series. Sadly, it was apparently not a fluke, but the new norm.

Not only does he leave plotlines unresolved, but he's left many more dangling unfinished in this book than he did in the last. And I don't mean the way some author's will leave some plots unresolved to function as cliff hangers between books, either. That can be done successfully and is a proven effective writing strategy. But this, isn't that. Most story lines are simply never finished, and what plotlines are developed definitely lack the power and action we've all come to love and expect from this series. Think of this as... a small scale version of the character we've come to adore.

Do I still appreciate the story, premise, and world building Whited gives us? Sure. But do I feel he's written himself into a bit if a corner in that he's created a universe so fantastical it's become increasingly difficult to "top" the previous installments? Yes. Is the series is going downhill? Sadly, definitely.

Never disappoints

We’re seven books in already and hours of content have flown by. Fugue lives up to the hype of the previous books and then some. I love this series.

Losing its attraction

Although the series is supposed to be written in a diary style, the first few books read as actual stories, with more characters. The books are now becoming inner monologues with more ‘self reflection’ than anything else.

Another great book.

It's another book where you wish you could be there living the life Eric does. Would I make different decisions than what Eric did? Yeah probably. Would it inevitably blow up in my face as I didn't think it through like Eric does... most certainly.

Its one of those series you can just put on and get lost in, infact if done correctly it would make for a fantastic TV show.

Continue this fantastic series Mr Whited, and thanks.

Boringly entertaining

if you got this far you know what I mean rambles on spiraling like the multiverse. thank god for time jumps if I had to listen to multiple monologues about his inadequacies and trite parenting adventures (he does love to labour points in case you missed it the first 6 times lol) but with the bonus of fast forewind the story moves nicely. As usual it's entertaining but really nothing much happens as usual but lots of it but you know the books by now. looking forward to the next installment

although there was less action in this installment im sure the next will be even more epic and will get rid of the loose ends from this one.
Sean narrates these books perfectly and love the sarcasm too.

decent but the weakest in the series

decent story and nice to take a slower pace I'm sure but definitely the worst book of the series, could have been a decent standalone book I guess but in a new world/setting so it will feel new rather than dragged out.
worth a purchase if you're a fan of the series but if you're undecided I would skip this one.
