Publisher's Summary

To her followers, she advocates for an authentic and transparent life. In reality, she’s living a perfect lie.

Wellness influencer Ava Maloney’s enormous success is based on total transparency, extolling the well-documented virtues of her full, balanced life.

But the truth is, Ava’s social media platform is built on a lie. And her double life is beginning to take its toll.

Escaping Los Angeles for a luxury wellness retreat on Martha’s Vineyard, Ava believes she can get everything back on track. No fans will be the wiser to the real reason for her visit. With the help of the other guests, staff, and a supportive local, Ava begins regaining control of her body, her mind, and her life. Except someone is onto her, threatening to expose the secret she’s hidden for so long. Ava was prepared to face her demons, but not publicly. Not yet.

The fallout might also force Ava to finally reconcile who she’s been pretending to be with who she actually is - a woman discovering the real meaning of a full and balanced life.

Deeply Vulnerable Healing Story

I’m born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard. This book is such a whimsical glimpse into what it must be like to visit the island. The details are impeccable from the female vocalist at the local bar to the incredible food the island provides and even the magic of dappled light and hidden gems of natural land preserves.
As for the story, the author spins a first person narrative that is confronting and unnerving at times in its transparency. And, I implore you, sit with whatever your squeamishness or judgements might be. It’s so easy to dismiss that which is uncomfortable for us to look at. And, as the story unfolds you may find yourself softening, holding space, experiencing this process of transformation and expansion. Stay with it. You’ll be glad you did, and perhaps even emerge to celebrate yourself and those around you with fresh appreciation and an open heart you may have never realized was protected or closed.

Informative on important subjects - easy to read

The writing is good, and the story moves along effortlessly. The honest focus on both bulimia and social media makes this not just another beach read. A valuable book for women — younger women and teenage girls especially. Nice (and accurate) love letter to Martha’s Vineyard.

Good listen

About a topic that I knew very little about although I have a family member who dealt with this so it was very educational.

Well done story about self love

If you have never known anyone with bulimia (or had the disease yourself) then this book could be a bit off putting. But if you have, this book is very good at showing how it can effect and take over a life. Extremely well written story of the struggle and healing. Beautifully performed (audible version) and great character development. Great story!

Influencers’ world

I was disappointed there was so little about the actual island. Wrong expectations. The story itself was a bit predictable.

Didn't enjoy it.

Got through the first 6 or 7 chapters and couldn't finish it. It was like it was repeating everything, I just couldn't get into it, found it boring.

Can be triggering

I really think this is a triggering book. I have never been bulimic but have to be careful about my eating. It made me crave more food. Wasn’t worth it.
