Publisher's Summary

Many of us have forgotten how to move correctly. We live with muscular imbalances, constant pain and low energy. Adam Sinicki is on a mission to change this. He is best known for his YouTube channel The Bioneer, where he provides expertise on functional training, brain training, productivity, flow states and more. Currently popular functional training is exercise as rehabilitation. It aims to restore normal, healthy strength and mobility using compound and multifaceted movements. In Functional Training and Beyond, Adam reveals how we can become better than just functional. We can improve not only our physical performance but also our mental state. We can train so that we move better, think more clearly, feel energetic and even live more efficiently.

Functional Training and Beyond shows us how we can train our brains just like our bodies and how to incorporate this into a comprehensive, well-rounded program.

Amazing thought provoking book

A comprehensive book covering many different training modalities including training our brain with practical solutions for implementation . Loved this book ! Thank you Adam for passing on your amazing knowledge, I am definitely going to listen again as there is so much to digest. 1 little bit of feedback is your narrative is very fast I had to slow the speed down a little to be able to take it all in. Thanks again

The most training advice for your dollar

Those familiar with The Bioneer YouTube channel, will find more of the same type of content here. That’s not a bad thing. In the realm of fitness YouTubers, The Bioneer (aka Adam Sinicki) gives you all the fitness, physiological, and reasoned approaches to strength and cardio training you could need. What he lacks in polish on his videos compared to flashier peers, he brings more knowledge and breath on the topics.

This book is an compendium of several aspects of training to consider such as mental exercise, flexibility, muscularity, endurance, and various examples of extraordinary individuals in the past who show what humans can do if they push past assumed limitations.

This is not so much an exercise guide as food for thought on how to take your training to the next level and become almost superhuman. Sinicki examines bodybuilders, free divers, marathon runners, and gives the merits of those specializations while also offering critiques where they would fall short.

If you want a deeper fitness book that goes beyond “lift weights”, “run X miles a day”, or “eat chicken, broccoli, and rice”, try “Functional Training and Beyond”.

Great listen.

If there is one thing I can say about this audiobook is that it is a great listen with lots of detailed research and information from the author. It was also a blessing that the author himself narrates it. All sorts of information regarding function and mobility and ways of training I’ve never even seen or heard of. The Bioneer’s YouTube channel is also great. Easy 5 star for me.

Im a huge Bioneer fan. The concepts were so vast in this book, it should be a series. This was like an introduction to the functional world of fitness. We need more.

A great overview to begin your fitness journey

I followed Adams "The Bioneer" YouTube channel for some time before reading this book, so many of the concepts discussed in the book were familiar. If you're looking for a new fitness routine or method, look elsewhere. This book explores what fitness and health are, how they can be explored, extended, improved, and the boundaries pushed. It's full of great information, great ideas, and suggestions. If you're frustrated with your fitness and health journey, wherever you are on that journey, this book can give you useful information and motivation to change and improve.

Be the best version of you!

Brilliant!
I can't recommend this enough.
I watched a few of Adams YouTube Bioneer videos and found a kindred spirit, albeit a mich more knowledgeable (and fitter) one. This audiobook is fantastic and I have listened to it several times. It is made even better because the authour also narrates it.

Two warnings though:
1. It is a lot of information and can be a bit nerdy at times. This is great for neuroplasticity and challenging your brain with exciting new information, as you will discover.
2. I just finished a 6am 5K run barefoot and topless and then walked blindfold across a balance beam to train my proprioception. This book might inspire you to move WAY outside your comfort zone.

Loved it

To start with, I follow The Bioneer on YouTube, so I had a hunch of what I would get from this book.

What made me fall for the book to start with was the body and mind connection that was explored, and I buy in to what is discussed.

I like the concept of “super functional training” and wanted to know more, and also sponsor the author who gives out tons of good information for free.

If you’re into training as recreational hobby I do recommend this book, especially if you’re into several different sports. It’s probably good fire people of all ages and interests, to me this was a great start and a lot of the concepts are things I plan to include into my training.

Unfortunately I am limited to 5 stars

This is an absolutely brilliant bookn the vast plethora of ideas and concepts brought to the table by Adam are married together perfectly through his stance (pardon the pun) on physical training - super functional training. The ideas reach out into all elements of performance e.g. Strength, endurance, diet, supplements, focus, stress relief, breath, and many more. Everything is supported by scientific research and the concepts are argued in an extremely compelling way - nothing short of highly motivating. Well don't Adam, for creating such a brilliant book. I look forward to what comes next.

I expected more from that author.

Avarage , jumping from topic to topic. No info about exactly research. Lot of explanation about some terms, gym related words, but that all.
Struggle to finish.
