My first Nora Novel
This was my FIRST Nora Roberts book. STOP JUDGING ME DAMMIT!!! It wasn't what I expected. This book was originally published in 1989 and seriously I couldn't tell. I enjoyed the story. I've got a weak spot for preggo chicks who find love in the strong arms of an alpha dude. Laura was extremely weak at times but I can understand why after going through the abuse she did. I felt the love story part of the book was all instalove but again given the circumstances I can see why.
I read a review where a woman accused the story that has a newborn as not being realistic. To that reviewer I say just because YOUR reality doesn't jive doesn't mean it's not realistic. After the baby was born the new parents dealt with sleep deprivation and connection issues. Totally realistic in my book. And as for Laura losing the weight, let me say I was damn near 200lbs when I gave birth to both of my sons and I was back in a size 4/6 within 2-4weeks. So again, it doesn't make it unrealistic just because it doesn't match YOUR REALITY.
Overall I enjoyed the story. It wasn't ground breaking or earth shattering but I liked it. I would have LOVED to have been a fly on the wall when Gabe had "that" conversation with Miriam but we don't get to see that. I have one more Nora book so I'll give that one a go and maybe a few others before I call myself a fan.

One dimensional characters in lackluster book
There is almost nothing to review here. The story has been done before and done much better. It's so formulaimatic that I could see the checklist of plot points (beautiful, orphaned, widowed and pregnant girl on the run from evil mother in law is saved by handsome, rich and unattached artist). If this book were a painting it would be a charcoal sketch. The narrator was fine but since he didn't have much to work with he couldn't excel.

I liked it, but sometimes the h was TSTL
Just 2 weeks since she had her baby and she wants to paint the baby’s room, do all the cooking, and all the housework in a mansion?? When she’s married to a very wealthy man who is more than willing to hire all the help she needs? What an idiot!! Having had 2 children myself, I know that 2 weeks after childbirth you are still so exhausted that just caring for your baby is an effort; never mind housework!! At one point, she muses that she’s bored because “the house practically cleans itself”!! What??? No house cleans itself, if such a house exists, Nora, please tell me where it is, because I’d love to buy it!!
Not only that, but she’s upset because her husband hasn’t approached her for sex 4 weeks after childbirth. Why is she upset that she has a considerate husband?? You’re not supposed to have sex until at least 6 weeks after childbirth!! She hasn’t even seen a doctor since the baby was born! How ignorant can she be? It was mentioned early on that she had read books on childbirth, did she skip the part that says you can’t have sex until your Dr gives you the go-ahead? Details matter!! I know this is fiction, but how about a little common sense Nora? I found these incongruities annoying and distracting.

Great romance
This is a great romance with a hint of danger. I look the way the author describes a painting as if I can see myself. I felt the same with the character in The Collector. I have always appreciated paintings but I now can feel some of what the artist felt while painting. Thank you.
