Publisher's Summary

Eighteen-year-old Daria Jones feels trapped in the cow-strewn suburbs of Fresno, California. And with a father so overprotective he's installed video and thermal surveillance down the street, she doesn't get out much. Until the night he disappears.

Following the trail of notes he's left behind, Daria gathers three things: A dark force is hunting her, her father's fled to another world on a cryptic mission, and the only one left to trust is her ex-best friend, Alexander Anderson. The more she learns about her father's absence, the more she realizes she must go to this other world to find him. And Alexander is the only one who knows how to get there.

Amidst a world of diabolical creatures, ancient magic, and bizarrely intuitive vegetation, Daria must find her father before the dark force finds her. But the truth of who she really is could be her greatest enemy of all.

Great listen but I want more

Loved this book/series so much I couldn't wait for audible to record the rest and I actually bought them in print! That is huge for me as I haven't bought a paper book since Kindle made it so much more affordable to be addicted to fiction. I love the alternate world created in this book, tied to ours but not a part of it. The challenges of a modern girl thrust into midevil expectations. And although you may never know if audible doesn't get the rest of the series recorded this adventure ends in a way I never expected which is impressive because I'm pretty good at predicting these kinds of stories. #magicalrelm #unexpectedprincess #forbiddenlove #adventure #tagsgiving #sweepstakes

Great listen

I loved this first book and am eager to get my hands on book two! The characters were very compelling and each had unique characteristics and attributes that were brought to life by the narration! You could absolutely tell who was speaking by the narrators tone and speed which was a huge bonus. The world is intriguing and different from other fantasies and I appreciated the family dynamic. I would absolutely recommend to anyone who loves fantasy, adventure, and a strong heroine!

Relationships, adventure, fantastical beings

I enjoyed this book tremendously, the characters, the choice of words, the narrator's pace, tone of voice, variety in expressiveness.

I cannot help but wonder how much Dad helped! And the answer doesn't matter.

well done to all involved!
