Story
Ambitious ice queen and corporate lawyer Felicity Simmons has spent her life focused on one thing: scuttling up the career ladder. She's achingly close to taking charge of a media empire for her boss when she's sent to investigate a South Bronx charity that helps homeless people's pets. Has the charity made off with her boss's generous donation? And, who on earth is that gorgeous soft-butch veterinarian who looks as if she could toss a Shetland pony over one shoulder? Not that Felicity has any interest in some opinionated Amazon or her adorable fleabag of a dog.

Publisher's Summary
Corey Curtis is coasting. At 33, she's in the best shape of her life and has a satisfying position at Jackson City Memorial Hospital. With a good paycheck, great friends, and occasional relationships with smart, beautiful women, she couldn't be happier. She thinks.
Dr. Thayer Reynolds, whiling away some time before the start of her Emergency Department fellowship at JCMH and intrigued by the stories she's heard, crashes the morgue to get a look at Corey - the woman her young colleagues are whispering about.
Totally spinning from her first interactions with Thayer, Corey throws herself into the post-mortem exam of a construction worker who fell to his death, which isn't at all suspicious - until it is. With no support from her boss or the police, Corey investigates the death on her own. Making bad decisions with good intentions, she recklessly endangers her own life and Thayer's.
Even worse - she potentially dooms any chance of a real relationship with Thayer before it even gets started.

Did I read the same book?
I’m not sure why there were so many great reviews here. I couldn’t even finish the whole thing. I feel like this book was written for teenage readers and was entirely predictable with a bit of childish romance thrown in for good measure - don’t waste your money

Just okay
Normally I like Lori Prince as narrator but I hated the butch voice she used for Cori in this. Some very funny lines. The plot about the murder was good but the romance advanced way to fast and the story would hv been better for me if the story just concentrated on the murder and Cori s recovery. The idea that s doctor would fall in love within a few weeks in a casual relationship was just too far fetched….I regret using a credit for this.
Also someone mentioned there were technical problems with audio held true. Very disappointed with Audible for letting the technical problems slip thru.

Great book
I've been wanting to read a good medical romance and found it in this book. A little action, a little mystery, a lot of laughs, & two fabulous main characters with great chemistry. I usually enjoy more of a Jae slow-burn in my romances but their interactions & adventures made it believable & seem like their romance was brewing for much longer than the time frame set in the book. Not my favorite Lori Prince narration and voice choices but I'm eager & ready to listen to the sequel Dirt Nap.

i love this
okay this story was amazing I was wrong about this story I came across this before and i ignored it and found it on Audible yesterday and realize Lori is the voice actor.
so I want the to hear the character sounded before I bought it and the main MC that the book is based around sounds amazing so I bought both books I decided to step out of my comfort zone this is a considered I guess I'll call the doc and Doc book.
I usually read cop and Doc book so this was definitely stepping out of my comfort zone I'm a action mystery with a little bit of romance thrown in there kind of reader with some Supernatural.
so this was definitely out of my comfort zone and I was very happy to tell everyone that I was wrong about this book is amazing it's funny it has sense of humor has realism to it there job are not easy what they do was not easy they are one of the doctor for the dead the other ones eye doctor for the living and their lives revolve around their Hospital
now for the MC Corey I loved her she's the Butch and I love Butch Femme stories anyway so she checked up all my boxes tattoos check ripped check yes she's tall Amazon tall double check but outside of all that there's actually a witty caring sensitive person underneath the butch monitor which sometimes you really don't get in story. like that and she always wants to do right thing. and be honest and to herself and she's comes off as an ass at times but not necessarily trying to be one. and I really enjoyed her character in her progress in the story
and then we have her love interest I can't think of her name but I absolutely love this woman only did Lori give her this one has a sexy voice but her sex appeal her Charisma was just amazing but you pull all that back and you got some surprising things about her character I'm not going to spoil it but things that you didn't think a woman that way she was described to be to actually do the things that she was actually comfortable with doing to me which is awesome and the chemistry between both women was just amazing
I love the secondary characters they are awesome their supportive and they are expectantly keep it real they don't sugarcoat nothing for the MCs in the story and I absolutely love them
mystery on the other hand was easy for me to figure out who killed the person in the story but I still read it because it was so damn good I figured out who the killer was but the twist that I got I was expecting I was not expecting the MC to go through what she went through after falling out the killers so that was shocking to me
what to say to the rest of fans that come and read comments like I do first that's that's what I do I read the comments first before I actually read the book so if anyone reads this review of mine and your similar reader like me you like action and all that stuff do not expect this to be a big old explosion or a big ass black widow fight in the middle of the street because not that kind of story but it is a good story if you can step outside your comfort zone no matter what type of reader you are and give this book of chance you will not regret it it gives you exactly what it says is going to give you and it gives you so much more this is about a community for the people that do a job that may not be as dangerous as a cop or Soldier.
but it is just as emotionally stray because they have to save lives in on the other hand they have to bring another life to rest by giving that person's family closure on what happened to them and that's not easy to do and they have to still try to keep the humanity their humor and still go on with their lives too.
so I think this book was a really good balance of all of these things brings you the seriousness about what they do but also remind you that they're human so they got to go on laugh love and cry it's a good book and it deserves to get more reviews and get the chance to grow I hope to see this books turn into a bigger series than just three series I would love to see the series go on for a while 6 7 books maybe it's that good that I think it could do that I am officially a fan of the series and I look forward to book 3 but in the meantime I'm going to go read book 2 and you should see my review on that as well once I completed it was amazing book

Lori prince narration is always enjoyable so this read was no different. Only complaint is more time wasn’t spent on Corey and Thayer. But I’m sure I’ll be listening to it again. Story was enjoyable. Wonder if everyone else will jump just like I did at one point.. no spoilers though.

It was decent
Not my favourite story, but it was still good. I think I struggled because so much time was spent on one of them being hurt which I know was part of their story but I got a bit restless waiting for something more to happen with them together. Then things finally started to happen and bam...it ends.

Dissapointed
Reading the synopsis this book appeared to have lots to offer: strong female protagonists, crime investigation, complex relationships and witty repartee. But it failed to deliver on all counts. This book was an incredible disappointment. The main characters were weak, the crime plot was predictable and barely there and the conversation between the characters was at the level of a 2nd grader. It felt like the author was talking down to the reader.
