Speaking of Gaslighting

I can't believe there are 5-star reviews of this book. The reader sounds like one of the mechanical reading programs. The words "he" and "she" are mixed up in a way that seems like they changed it some random number of times it was used to keep in line with not using one gender over another too often. So they're talking about a man and a woman, and they change the "he" and "she" so randomly that it doesn't make sense unless you stop listening to those two words and only listen to the changes from one person to another based on other evidence. It says it's in English, but it sounds like it's been translated either by a computer or by someone who is not fluent in English and some other language in which it was written. I'm not just disappointed, I'm a little angry -- I used to be able to trust Audible to only publish high-quality audiobooks. Of the hundreds of books I've purchased from them, not one has been even close to this completely awful. Now I will have to listen to part of every book before I purchase it.

Found it very difficult to get beyond the presentation.

I could not finish the book as the person narrating the book miss pronounced words and interrupted the flow of content, thought and purpose of this book. I am sure whatever I listen to I missed much of the intended meaning. There is some good information here but the pervading feeling and thought I had listening to the narrator totally distracted me. It is difficult to imagine a worse job of NARA rating and performance. Too bad!

Shoddy

The writing is disorganized and lacks a clear thesis, argument development, and research. The reader mispronounces many words, adding a comic patina. A waste of time.

Worst audible I have ever listened to.

Unfortunately this is the worst performance in an audible book that I have ever heard. There were so many mispronounced words. I can’t imagine that someone didn’t proof listen to this, to correct the errors. The overall story is hard to follow, and makes very little sense, most of the first half of the book. I had to discontinue reading it.

Disappointing

The writing was solid however, the narrator was choppy and hard to listen to at times. The writing was too clinical at times for what I was personally looking for but may be right for a different audience. I was looking for applicable logic and advice for how to handle relationships with gaslighting behavior. I don’t feel this book was right for that. It spoke in the beginning a lot about abusive behavior and then glossed over the advice that I was looking to be covered more in depth.

Time better spent on another book.

This is really bad. I admittedly didn’t get very far and excused the poor writing and/or reading in the pursuit of self improvement. But I don’t understand why neutral terms couldn’t be used as though only men gaslight.

Narration

The narrator sounded robotic. It was hard to follow and it wasn’t pleasant to listen to. I only made it through 3 chapters.

Skip this book!

The narrator mispronounced various words throughout. You could tell that she didn't comprehend what she was reading. This book was all over the place. I got almost halfway through and was so exhausted listening to the narrator mispronounce simple words such as "undermine," pronounced as "undermeen"....ugh!

WORST NARRATION EVER

I think I might really enjoy and need the content, but the narrator is legitimately the worst speaker I have ever had to listen to... annunciates words wrong, poor sentence rhythm, stumbles through some actual pronunciation of the words. I am going to have to purchase this book. Do not waste money on listening... horrific.

So badly written and performed it gave me nausea

The above might sound dramatic but I’m being totally honest. The author seems to jump from using one proverb to another in the same example which is confusing. The performer reads this like a robot and doesn’t seem to be able to understand punctuation.
I listened for half an hour and had to turn it off as my head hurt and I had nausea from trying to listen to it.

good

pretty good in general, though not much help if you don't suffer from low self esteem, but are in a different sort of gaslighting experience, like work. wish there was more detail about the tactics of gaslighters, in order to spot and protect oneself against them.
