Publisher's Summary

A simple sting operation takes a violent and unexpected turn for Detective Eve Ronin in a gripping thriller by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Goldberg.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detective Eve Ronin and her soon-to-retire partner, Duncan Pavone, are running a 24-7 sting in a guard-gated enclave of palatial homes in Calabasas. Their luxury McMansion is a honey trap, set to lure in the violent home invaders terrorizing the community. The trap works, leaving three intruders dead, a body count that nearly includes Eve and Duncan.

Eve’s bosses are eager to declare the case closed, but there are too many unanswered questions for her to let go. Was the trap actually for her, bloody payback for Eve’s very public takedown of a clique of corrupt deputies? Or is there an even deadlier secret lurking behind those opulent gates? Eve’s refusal to back down and her relentless quest for the truth make her both the hunter…and the prey.

Fun Fast and Free with Kindle Unlimited!!!!

I really enjoyed this new Eve Ronin procedural. In this book Eve and her partner are tasked with solving multiple cases. One being that of a dead infant stolen out of it’s mother’s womb. The other is of home invasions being committed by a group of people, in broad daylight in wealthy gated communities. Figuring out how these people are getting in unsuspectedly is a real challenge especially when they are not only under pressure from the community but their police captain as well. He would like nothing more than to get Eve kicked off the force. And to make things real special there’s a TV series being made about Eve based on previous books.
This is book three in the series. Al are standalone and don’t need to be listened to in order. I prefer starting a series with book one but if you’ve never listened to this series it’s fine to pick it up right here. Enough information is given so you won’t feel lost when previous books are referenced.
All in all this is a fast paced fun read.
Nicol Zanzarella does a praiseworthy job narrating.
Best of all, this book is FREE to listen to when you borrow the book on Kindle Unlimited.
This book is VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A wrong turn somewhere

Really liked the first book. But somehow the author has taken the wrong road. All the hollywood stuff in this book and the refusal to really develop the main Character , Eve makes this a flat read. Very disappointing.

No plot or character development

I'm not sure what happened in this book, but the writer seems more concerned about describing food and remodeling tips than creating a story or characters that you were interested in. The plot wanders all over the place while the main character, Eve becomes more and more unlikeable as the story unfolds. Past events from the prior to books are brought up constantly with no development or interesting new details. In the end, this book was a huge disappointment and difficult to get through.

Heart pumping story

Can Eve, Duncan and team solve a rash of home invasions in a gated community without the politicians & sheriff botching up the investigation? Not to mention the hatred for Eve that’s harbored by the majority of the deputies that could leave her and Duncan with reliable backup. Meanwhile, Eve is seriously considering selling the rights to a TV series about her life…we’ll see how that goes. I’m enjoying this series, especially the relationship between Eve and her partner/mentor, Duncan, who’s literally counting down the days to retirement. Looking forward to the next story.

The back story... The h is continuing her battle with other members of the LASD as she will not back down or play by the Shark's rules. The story starts out with our detectives in an undercover role trying to find some thieves who have been robbing the very wealthy in gated communities. Things don't go as planned and our story begins.

Gist: The story continues its focus on the h's battle against sexist behavior and criminals while doing the opposite of what her mother and father would do. She also has decided to work with Hollywood as she knows that she is about to be sued by the wife of a police officer that committed suicide.

The drama explosion... The sting to get the last of the bad guys
Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? Mostly real until the bad guy realizes what is going on.
Was it OTT? Very

Was it resolved properly or rushed? Properly - in a very entertaining fashion.

Final Notes... I do like the series but am getting worn down by the h and her very negative views of everyone except a few officers. Her chip has to be crushing her folder although I can somewhat understand it based on her mother's barbie-doll view of life.

Fun read

Fun read. Characters and situations are believable. Constant action but not over the top. I enjoyed the read.
