Publisher's Summary
Drizzt joins Bruenor on his quest for the fabled dwarven kingdom of Gauntlgrym: ruins said to be rich with ancient treasure and arcane lore. But before they even get close, another drow and dwarf pair stumbles across it first: Jarlaxle and Athrogate. In their search for treasure and magic, Jarlaxle and Athrogate inadvertently set into motion a catastrophe that could spell disaster for the unsuspecting people of the city of Neverwinter - a catastrophe big enough to lure even the mercenary Jarlaxle into risking his own coin and skin to stop it.
Unfortunately, the more they uncover about the secret of Gauntlgrym, the more it looks like they can’t stop it on their own. They’ll need help, and from the last people they ever thought to fight alongside again: Drizzt and Bruenor.

Pleasantly Surprised.
If you could sum up Gauntlgrym in three words, what would they be?
Action Packed,decadent
What other book might you compare Gauntlgrym to and why?
I have never read another title that fits into the realm of high fantasy.
Have you listened to any of Victor Bevine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
First time listener of Mr Bevine.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I tried my best. I listened for hours on end.
Any additional comments?
Gauntlgrym is one of the best bits of fantasy Ive ever read. I was really not aware of Salvatores work until a friend recommended it. From what I understand Salvatore has a rich history with fantasy literature. Im just sorry I never knew of his work before now. Gauntlgrym has great character development, action packed fights, and he paints some of the most decadent worlds Ive ever imagined. If you are a fan of high fantasy you owe it to yourself to give this book a chance. IMHO you won't regret taking the leap.

a bold new path begins for D&D's favorite Drow
What did you love best about Gauntlgrym?
Drizzt's is finally breaking with all the familiar trappings and coming to terms that all the old friends and loved ones he found at his side for aid and direction in life are going or gone and he must fine a new reason to live. Of course RS is handling this beautifully and leaves me with nothing but confident optimism and well as anticipation for what lies down the road for my favorite D&D based recurring hero. This books does a beautiful job of expressing the pain of having to move on from a chapter in your life yet transitioning wonderfully as the changing from 3.5 to 4.0 for Forgotton Realms leaves the world that Drizzt lives in ripe for new adventure.

An Immersive Fantasy Novel
This is my second Drizzt audio book I have listened to. The Neverwinter series is looking like it's going to be great adventure which pits Drizzt, against foes and evil plots, teamed up with old and new companions. Although the fact that Drizzt is well written character, should not put you off, if this is your first Forgotten Realms novel you'll find the narration excellent and full of suspense and action.
The story unravels with Drizzt acting with compassion to his friends quests, rather than his own selfish goals. A true adventurer who is fun to follow and quirky role-model.
The last novel I listened to was the first book of 'Transitions' called The Orc King and I didn't complete the last two books of 'Transitions' before moving to the 'Neverwinter' series. I had no problems with this, as R.A Salvatore wrote the beginning of 'Gauntlgrym' with a recap on the general plots by weaving it into this story. I can genuinely say I felt the larger adventure without being confused.
Although I am a fan of Dungeons and Dragons, and high fantasy. I am sure if you wish to start listening to high fantasy audio books then Drizzt Do'Urdens adventures in the 'Neverwinter' series is a good a place to start than any other.
The land of Faerun is based in the Forgotten Realms, and Neverwinter in the most North Western part of Faerun. But it is only a small part of Faerun, so expect character in the Dungeons & Dragons novels to come together from far away places each with their own agenda. Expect strange beasts, cunning enemies and amazing magical weapons. On a larger scale, you can expect wars between different races, gods that try to control the fate of mortals, and ancient primordial beings awoken from long slumbers.
The great thing about the novels is that you can continue the adventures, make your own adventures, and your own characters if you wish by playing the Dungeons & Dragons game, and that game is continually supported with official events that might be organised in your local area.
For example, this Wednesday I will be joining friends to play in an official adventure based around the fictional city of Neverwinter, with their own characters who will be using the rules from the game of Dungeons & Dragons.

Amazing Story!
Amazing story with incredible battles and intricate details that allow yourself to fall into the world that R.A.Salvatore creates. I've never been fond of Drizzt's private musings as I think his actions and his life speak louder. But they in no way detract from this most important of stories in the Legend that is Drizzt.
