Sharing a summer house with a hot-as-hell roommate should be a dream come true, right? Not when it's Justin...the only person I'd ever loved...who now hates me. When my grandmother died and left me half of the house on Aquidneck Island, there was a catch: the other half would go to the boy she helped raise.

Story
The first time I met Merrick Crawford was during my job interview. Well, technically, I’d met him 20 minutes earlier when he’d barged into a fitting room a few doors down from my appointment. I yelled. He yelled. After an argument while standing in my bra, I proceeded to smash the door into the gorgeous jerk, trying to yank it shut. As you might imagine, I was freaked out when I discovered that the rude guy was my potential new boss. Yet he didn’t seem to recognize me. Or so I thought.... Until we wound up bickering again during my interview and he told me to go sniff my armpit.

Story
What do you do when a sexy older man moves into your family’s summer rental? Well, apparently, you make a fool of yourself - over and over. Things didn’t exactly get off on the right foot with Noah Cavallari. Our first encounter was embarrassing, to say the least. But despite that, I found myself waking up every day with a newfound energy. Nothing exciting ever happened on the lake - not until Noah moved into the small boathouse on our property. When my mother became ill, I inherited the responsibility of making sure our guests were well taken care of.

You're not supposed to want the one who torments you. When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn't prepared for how much of a jerk he'd be. I hated that he took it out on me because he didn't want to be here. I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room. But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano. Number one: He’s obnoxious. Number two: We were enemies more than a decade ago. Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend. I could go on and on, really. When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment, and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents, the grandson turns out to be Troy. Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice - the only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face, in between our many arguments.

We met in the least likely of places. It started out innocently enough. I was “ScreenGod”, and she was “Montana”, but of course those weren’t our actual names, just the virtual cloaks we hid behind. Logging in at night and talking to her was my escape - my sanctuary. Her real name was Eden, I’d soon come to find out. From the first time we connected online, I found myself transfixed. She was an addiction. At first, we knew nothing about each other’s real identities...and she was adamant that we keep things that way.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Look up Landon Roderick, that boy from childhood whom I'd never been able to forget - even though he so easily forgot about me - and call him. Then again, anything sounds like a good idea when you've had a little too much wine before bed, right? It was supposed to be just a quick, meaningless prank call. Instead I went off on him - unloading 13 years of pent-up emotions. I didn't think he'd call me back.

My name is Sevin. Homeschooled and sheltered by my ultra-religious family, I was always taught that lust was a sin. Elle was the girl who'd been carefully chosen for me. After a long-distance courtship, I'd be moving into her family's guest house so that we could get to know each other in the months before the wedding. Boundaries were set: no inappropriate touching, no kissing, no sex before marriage. I'd accepted those rules and my fate - until I met the one I wanted to sin with.

The first time I met Jade Jameson, I lost my words and accidentally dropped a beer bottle, smashing it to the ground. The Broadway star sister of my brother's wife had paid us a surprise visit on Christmas. Quite simply, she was the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen; I was mesmerized. I'd made a fool of myself, and to make matters worse, my girlfriend was standing right there when it happened. Jade went back to New York, and we didn't cross paths again for a year - until one night when a Facebook notification lit up my screen, setting off a chain of events that would change my life.

WHAT A JOURNEY, WHAT A LOVE STORY & WHAT AN AUTHOR
The Pubisher's Summary captures the premise of this story.. however it was the words, the chapters and the star-crossed characters that captivated me as Allison and Cedric instantly fell for each other at first sight. Furtive glances were made and a deep connection was felt - but loving words were never shared because the circumstances and timing were all wrong as Cedric had a girlfriend as well as secrets - secrets that could, and would eventually, devastate Allison and break hers, and Cedric's, hearts.
However, first there was a slow climb as they overcame misunderstandings, uncertainties, impossible odds and Cedric's constant guilty conscience because he was naively keeping back a very shocking and heartbreaking story from Allison in order to taste a little bit of Heaven before the truth would come out. And Cedric knew he was on borrowed time - because the truth was catching up.. and it was about to rock and change Allison's world.. as ghosts, painful memories and shocking revelations from Cedric's past would destroy hearts, futures, possibilities and beautiful dreams.
It was a very enjoyable slow to develop dual POV love story set amidst uncertain and tempestuous seas with likeable characters who finally worked through it all and got their HEA together. There were some touching sentiments, romance, passion, sex, a shocking secret, heartbreak, some unexpected new people joined the storyline and a sweet Epilogue. Good narration did what the Author couldn't do - they gave them voices and brought them, and all the scenes, to life.
Worth a credit? YES absolutely - I've had a very lazy Sunday listening to this book and I haven't regretted a single second of it.

Ok, just not my type of story.
What did you like best about Gemini? What did you like least?
I liked the story and the lead male character.
Would you be willing to try another book from Penelope Ward? Why or why not?
Probably not. These are good, vanilla stories but I like dark stories more.
What three words best describe Eric Michael Summerer and Therese Plummer ’s performance?
They were good. Therese Plummer was over exaggerated at times. Sounded like a little girl at times.
Do you think Gemini needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Definitely a stand alone story.

Good romance
This audiobook was entertaining, with twists you don’t expect. The hero and heroine are both interesting characters with an almost instalove feel to it, but he’s hiding something huge from her. I wish they both had more courage in the story. There’s a happy ending, and narration was well done.

ENTIRE Memorial Day spent wearing headphones
LOVED this story! Could not 'put it down.' Started listening as I weeded the yard, & planted flowers. I never stopped through lunch, fixing the fence, adding all the mulch, mowing the lawn, edging the sidewalks and blowing the driveway. The last few chapters were relished as the story came to a conclusion & I enjoyed a tall, cold glass of wine!
Great, passionate narrators. Always live it when there are actually male AND female voices. Thanks for that! Love that they took their time & didn't rush the reading.
Loved that this was a unique story with interesting characters. Not the typical 'cookie cutter romance.'
Have already started recommending Gemini to my book friends.

Didn't see that coming
I though Allison was a very lovable character. She was so hardworking and I loved how passionate she was about her career field. I could see why Cedric and all of his family loved her. Cedric on the other hand, he handled the situation poorly. He was also a bit selfish. I knew there was some kind of twist but I didn't expect it to be so tragically beautiful. Penelope Ward does angst and pain really well. She made the story and the pain to believable. Needless to say, the name was very fitting. I will say that the story did drag at some points and it took a while to get to the plot twist.
Therese Plummer is a fantastic narrator and I am always enthusiastic about her performances. Her voice is very pleasant. Eric Michael Summerer was okay. My only negative is that there was a lack of Bostonian accent. The characters spoke about it but I didn't hear it and it would have bought more dimension to the story.

So disappointed. I love Vi Keeland and liked the compilations Keeland and Ward did together. Because of those works, I’ve listened to several works by Ward alone. This one is just so juvenile. The characters are so immature. “Surface”. Shallow and undeveloped. It seems like a story written by a 15 or 16 year old girl. The narration was not enjoyable either. The female narration was way too dramatic - overdone and super breathy. The male couldn’t do female voices and was very inconsistent with the accent. It was a disappointing listen.

Would you listen to Gemini again? Why?

Who was your favorite character and why?
I loved Cedric and Allison! Each of them were just so genuine and beautiful, flaws and all.
What does Eric Michael Summerer and Therese Plummer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The emotion and depth these narrators brought to the story was one of the best performances I have ever listened to! I had never read this book before, and I could not stop listening! These two narrators are now some of my favorites!

A wonderful emotional roller coaster
Alison and Cedrick's story is one that effects you every time you pause listening, more than once I found myself in tears but then smiling manically with shear joy. Those diverse reactions were due in part to two 'very talented ' narrators and to a 'very talented & creative' author. I can't wait to hear Jakes story which comes next.

Slow and boring.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
It took far too long for anything to happen, and I didn't care about the main characters or their relationship because it seemed all they had to say about the other person for the first half of the book, was that they were so beautiful / gorgeous. If that is the sole reason for someone becoming obsessed with another person to the point of despair if they don't see each other, it makes me hate characters who are apparently so shallow.
It was mostly predictable and boring. I thought there was going to be a much better obstacle keeping the two characters apart, and when the 'reveal' happened I found it kind of silly, as if he'd just been upfront about it in the first place, I doubt it woud have been a problem at all.
I found a lot of the throwaway comments to be patronising and sometimes thoughtlessly insulting, for example, a gay character says that his boyfriend has a job as a drag queen but is 'not a cross-dresser, he's a real man'... I'm sorry but how does being a cross-dresser make you less of a real man?
Characters like the gay best friend seemed to only be included for the purpose of showing us how nice and open minded the heroine was, because they never appeared again after the first meeting. It felt as forced and stupid as introducing a dark-skinned character and talking with them about how great they look in warm colours just so she can prove she isn't racist. These days don't we just assume you aren't racist or homophobic unless shown otherwise? Do we need to admire the heroine because she can be friends with a gay guy? Big deal! The friendship was pointless, the scene with that character was therefore pointless, and as so much of this story did, it dragged.
I also found parts of the story a bit moralising and preachy. Drinking = bad. Violence = bad. Leaving an abusive relationship = good. We GET IT.
What could Penelope Ward have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I wish she had made her male characters more realistic.
As someone who has a lot of male friends as well as an older brother, the idea that men sit around constantly confiding in each other about their feelings and their love lives is pretty ridiculous to me.
The author seemed to think putting a beer in their hands and scattering the word 'man' into their conversations with each other was all it took to make them believable male characters. It did not. They sounded like women. And obsessed overly-emotional women at that.
There was also a massive over-simplifications of subjects like drinking problems, violence, and autism. The scene where Alison makes almost immediate friends with an adult autistic woman by the giving and withholding of an iPad as a reward / punishment felt like a dog training exercise and made me cringe.
She could also have chosen a different name for her hero. 'Cedric' just doesn't do it for me. But that's just personal preference...
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
The narration was okay, although I heartily wish the flatmate character had not been British because American narrators doing British accents are almost inevitably dreadful. I have heard worse, but it was still painful.
What character would you cut from Gemini?
The unnecessary 'best' friend, the ex-boyfriend, the two-dimensional soon-to-be-ex girlfriend, the lonely diner guy… so many characters who served almost no purpose or were there simply to try and force us to think well of the heroine.
Any additional comments?
There were a few scenes I enjoyed, such as when they have a Skype call and Cedric raps. We actually see something more from the characters than just how hot or beautiful they are, or how obsessed with each other they are, and get some actual personality. One of the few times I started to almost care.

Not for me. Insta love stuff just not grabbing me, nor the characters story lines.

Grabbed my attention!
From the beginning I was hooked. A puzzle to the end. Just when I had it solved, there was a new twist. There were moments in the beginning when the main male character annoyed me. I'm hooked however, because I want to know Jake's story, so I must continue with this series.
