Publisher's Summary
Grab your sword and get ready to level up.
The only way out is through.
Unbeknownst to him, Ray is about to partake on an adventure filled with magical beasts, warring factions, and a leveling-up system out of this world. He'll encounter filthy bandits, musty crypts, and friendly werewolves. Oh, you heard us right.
If only he wasn't given negative charisma points around women, he might have a chance, but you can't win them all.
When the only way out of the game may be through, you fight like your life depends on it. Because it just may. Survival means victory, and defeat could mean the end - forever.
Note from the authors: This one's for the underdogs out there. For lovers of adventure, the dice rollers of chaos, and the unapologetic gamers. We can't promise it'll be safe, but we can promise you're in for one great journey.

The cringe is strong in this one
This is LitRPG. Some may consider that genre fan fiction to begin with, this is the first litrpg book where i really felt that.
Characters: Meh, not terrible people but not people I would want to spend much time with. The MC started out seeming like a nice enough if pretentious fellow and the author using his silly in-game name in third person all the time did not help that image. He tries to self deprecate but only in the 'I believe he is sooo cool but I have to self deprecate so other people think he is not a Marty Stu' kind of way.
Story: There is no real story, just a guy stuck in a video game doing expected video game things. How did he get into the game "cool guy gets demo...explosion, there done". No real thought or backstory to it like in other stories, It was like the author didn't know how to get him into the game and didn't consider it important just wanted him in there and hand waved it away.. I mean what would cause an explosion like that? Did they have a bunch of explosive fuel near the computers? Then the author wanted him to be a Cryomancer. Guy cast one Ice spell, declares cryomancer but don't worry he can cast anything else as need arises, he's the coollist ya know. Now author wants the guy to do some town building.... kill one low level bandit mob, boom now everyone loves him (except the needed bad guy...and really even the bad guys respect\love him) and he leads a town\city.(I will point out here that Ascend online kind of did this with the town but sooo much better). After that it is just standard trope legendary creature or item after legendary creature or item. He becomes honored tribe member with or easily dispatches all the legendary creatures. The economy and amount of legendary weapons are way out of control in this ill balanced world and I don't think that was a statement about bad game design, it was just bad story design. It is like joining the Mages guild in Skyrim and an hour or so later you are the Arch Mage whether you know magic or not. This book is like that.
Narrator: At first I thought he was terrible. I thought he was really cheesing it up. Then I realized, 'well he is reading cheese so his tone may be just right'. He also does other peoples voices pretty well, it's just his main overdramatic reading voice and constantly saying the characters name that was annoying. The second issue is definitely the writing and assuming he pre-read this story the first may have been that too.
Lastly, and probably most important. Milk does NOT make coffee better. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the occasional latte and I am not unaware some people like their coffee with cream/sugar/and other stuff but if someone actually likes the taste of coffee so much they want to bring and share it with you, adding milk to it is not likely to make them go all bug eyed "oohh this is so awesome", that is just more "oh look how awesome our hero is" cringe. And later in the story there is a reveal that makes this scene make even less sense.
Disclaimer: All opinions here are mine and you may disagree. I cannot recommend this book, not even for the price I paid (free) unless you just want to listen to SOMETHING and get a laugh. It is not worst of worst. No torture or over the top sex stuff, just don't blame me if you get it and hurt yourself with all the eyerolling.

DO NOT PAY FOR THIS!
This is just about the laziest litrpg I've ever seen. Just copy and paste from other book and games. Nothing original at all. Unrealistically easy for the MC, kills a century old lich that had destroyed civilizations and created vampires by dumping a potion on him! The narrator uses the same monotone for the most epic battles in the book as he does dscribing a patch of moss.
If you are a fan of litrpg AND you can get this for free I would still pass...

Awful Rambo-esc Gary Sue
If you could have an extreme Gary Sue character then the MC would be it. Unrealistic interactions with other people. "I know you less than 24 hours but we are now like brothers" kind of bs. Low level character kills million year old litch. Half the fights and characters are rewrites copied from other LitRPG books, most notably "The Land". even the names basically the same with the addition of a letter to avoid copyright. Stay away.

This was just terrible...
Nothing about this book makes me want to recommend it. The 3rd person prospective this was written in gives me a headache. I love a story where I'm in the MC's head and I get to know them and their thoughts. Not this book... With Alume's name being said every sentence in the narrators random inflection voice this book is really hard to get into. Everything is super easy for this 30 something nerd that's never played this game before. Thousands of years old Litch that's destroyed civilizations? SPOILER! Killed in first encounter and in less than 10 minutes. He gains super powerful items and does not use them! Every gamer would take immortality! Especially when told you have 3 lives until you actually die. After both of those revelations I had to stop listening. This book was free and I know why, the author couldn't get people to buy it. I have no idea how there are 5 books of this Litrpg garbage.

it feels very pretentious.
I honestly couldn't get through it the amount of pretentious actions and plot hole we're ridiculous. Between the amount of unneeded gear description and the Insanity of how the story plays out is just ridiculous. Heck as he reading out gear at one point he even say you get the point and stops the description. The story breaks its own lore. The Swordsman that accompanies the mc say how rare the skill lay on hands is then all of a sudden theirs a goblin that has a cart of healing skills come on! This is a sad attempt at being a Lit RPG dont waste your money or credit.

Very shallow in general.
My first issue with this book is a personal one. I can't stand books written in present tense. When I read a book I feel I'm reading about something that happened, and so find reading it as if it is currently happening as I read, weird and grating. Add in how few authors write in this tense and it adds to the notice I take of it.
As for the book contents. The characters are two dimensional, shallow and with interactions with each other that just are not believable or natural. The plot - what there is of one - is just as weak and uninteresting. The best thing to say about this book in my opinion is it is an ideal one to put you to sleep.
Lastly, I don't get why authors feel the need change silly things just to be original. For example in just about every RPG you'll play from pen and paper on human normal is 9 or 10, but his average human stat is around 20. Rather than copper, silver and gold for money he makes his own money, which would be fine if the currency system would work. His wouldn't as he has no smaller and larger denominations of his money. Which was funny as he drank a mana potion worth 500g rather than just let his mana recharge. That is amusing as that amount was a massive amount more worth than anything else he had, and worth nearly as much as a magic sword value later on.
Far better books out there in this genre.

Clever idea - but way too long - even for a gamer to listen to - if it was shorter would love it - as it Is - not so much

Very good
This book had me hooked from first page as they say I honestly didn’t know what way it was going to go after the glitch at start. I was laughing out loud on my own while walking the dog; got a few strange looks can’t wait to start next one it’s already downloaded

Not worth the time
Authors, have you heard of show, do not tell?
This book is unbearable.
I do not recommend this to anyone.

Awful Narrator
the narration of this book is below bar, every second sentence is finished with a change in pace that makes ste story hard to lisen to.

Wow
What a fantastic start of the series.
Starts off by grabbing you in the story from the first page. The books is so fascinating, funny and sad at the same time. Loved it.
Looking forward for the next book.

Always enjoyed some Fantasy/SF but this was brill
Would never beverage thought at 74 years of age I could listen to and thoroughly enjoy a Warcraft type SF/Fantasy book of this kind. I was hooked from the first chapter and still there for the last. I felt interaction with the obviously Avatar characters and felt and saw the scenery and structure of the world created. Well done you have converted an old lady!!!!

Good plot, not a fan of 3rd person narration
The story has merit, but having the main character constantly referred to in third person gets old very quickly.

Not good in anyway
It’s not a bad book but there is nothing in this book that would excite anyone it’s boring the twists you see coming a mile off and the general interaction are basic and stale most of the time I can only imagine the series gets better as there are so many books to follow but I’ll leave that for someone else to find out

Really good high school level
Cliche phrases overused. Eg ‘he hit the guy so hard that [insert something big].
shallow character and story.
A really great high school kid level of writing only. 3/5 cos it was free.

Obvious outcome
Not a bad story and far from the worst I've heard. Far too many real world references used in place of better adjectives, and tacky adjectives used most other places. A few chapters in and you're already having thoughts about the outcome...and you're right.
Not overly memorable, but with potential for the author to improve. I might listen to another, however if this copy wasn't free with the Audible Plus account I would be full of regrets.

An acceptable LitRPG
Narration/editing was stilted, overly emphasising "this is a game." I listened to the whole book.
