Publisher's Summary

Once a kidnapped slave baby, George Washington Carver (1864-1943) found freedom in learning everything he could about the world around him. Overcoming poverty and racism, George became a brilliant scientist and a gifted professor who dedicated his expertise to helping Black farmers escape the devastating grip of poverty. George's scientific creativity knew no limits. His ingenious experimentation with peanuts and other plants helped rescue the failing Southern economy. Still remembered for his far-reaching and diverse achievements, Dr. Carver generously shared his talent simply for the reward of helping others.

We need more selfless people!

Those who become rich but haven't really helped the masses have totally wasted their lives.

An Eye-Opening Book

I read this for historical interest and to learn more about the life of George Washington Carver. I was not prepared for the content. I think this book should be a mandatory read in school. His life was amazing. He inspired me, encouraged me, and caused me to pose the question to myself of, "what's holding me back." I recommended this to a friend to who listened and came back to me and thanked me for telling him of it. The only area I did not like was the performance. In this part I didn't like the add-in voices of various characters. But that's just me.

Double AA Awesome and Awe-Inspiring

This book was great. I listened to it less than one day. The life and work of Dr. George Washington Carver is amazing. I will share this with my children and grand-children, if the Lord let’s me live to see the next generations. Thanks for writing and reading this book.

I learned so much from this audio book!

I had heard of George Washington Carver, but that's about it. I knew something about him inventing peanut butter to help all of the US with better nutrition, but oh he did much more than peanut butter. I couldn't stop listening to it. I almost finished it in one day. Yes, it's that good.

He did all of his inventions, farming improvement lessons, saving money lessons, etc. during a difficult time for African Americans. Saying that it was a difficult time for African Americans back then, doesn't adequately describe the horrors and inequality that Dr. Carver had to go through. It is embarrassing and horrifying to read of slavery, Jim Crow laws and racism from our history. But, every person in the US, needs to read this book and any other book about him.

Made for children…

I found the historical account slightly off, more in story form, but still interesting, but I wouldn’t consider it’s form as a biography. It felt as though the audio version was geared more toward the young listener than adults.

Loved every minute of it!

This is a person that should highlighted more in our public school history program. Teaching about endurance, believing in yourself/spiritual oneness, self-worth is much needed among us right now. I'd recommend this to all that love history. There was a lot I knew but also A Lot I learned from this biography. Love, love, loved it!!!
