There are four characters in every story: the victim, the villain, the hero, and the guide. These four characters live inside us. If we play the victim, we’re doomed to fail. If we play the villain, we will not create genuine bonds. But if we play the hero or guide, our lives will flourish. The hard part is being self-aware enough to know which character we are playing. In this book, Donald will use his own experiences to help you recognize if the character you are currently surfacing is helping you experience a life of meaning.

Checklist for those new to working
This book is part motivational content and part checklist. Each chapter contains inspirational quotations followed by simple steps, such as change your perspective to change your outcome (being optimistic open your eyes to opportunities even when you encounter failures). Some chapters are more like a compilation of quotations rather than a self-help book. The essential point of the book is to make decisions and take actions that move you forward on your long-term goals and adjust accordingly based on what has proven to work. The biggest factor contributing to success is the person's willingness to sacrifice short-term gratification for long-time gains.

I'll never buy another book by Brian Tracy
Although I really like Brian's books I have to say if you've read The miracle of self discipline, rain management and eat that frog you've heard everything he has to say. It's amazing the man can take the exact same material from these books put a new cover and title on it and say he has written another book. I wish the man would focus on quality more than quantity. I'm thouraly disappointed in this book just like the last couple of his books I have read. I won't be wasting anymore of my time with them.

Read, DO NOT listen to the book
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
The book had some terrific information and I may still order it in hard copy. However, the author unfortunately chose to narrate this book himself. Sometimes that works, in this case, it is a complete misstep. The author speaks in a barely varied cadence, that after a while, begins to sound almost monotone. Unbearable to think of listening to the entire book.
Mr. Tracy, please do not narrate your own books, or consider some voice coaching to add excitement if you choose to go this path for your next book.
I was frustrated I used my free credits on a book I ended up deleting after only about an hour.
How could the performance have been better?
Someone else besides the author narrating, or the author needs voice coaching.

Not worth it.
I have read several other Brian Tracy books and found them highly motivational & extremely helpful. Books like, No Excuses & Time Management are excellent & I've read each of them multiple times. I've read his mini book--21 Tips for time management-- countless times & felt like it helps me more each time I read it. This book, however, was extremely disappointing. He makes several comments about the poor that I found a little offensive. Basically that they are poor because they are lazy, rely on handouts, see themselves as victims, and spend all there time watching television. I don't think this is true. Brian Tracy mentioned in other books, that you shouldn't read anything by someone who writes from their ivory tower. Yet, this is exactly what this book felt like. There ARE SOME good tips on getting smarter but VERY FEW. Other than talking about how amazing he thinks the brain is, he really offers nothing. The book acts and sounds more like a get rich quick book, never really presenting what he says he will in the title. Instead, the majority of the book is almost word for word copies of topics & tips he has covered in other books (mostly the three I mentioned). Not only this, but the book itself repeats countless times. There were instances where I checked to make sure I had not skipped around and was re-listening to segments I had already passed. Overall I would say not to buy this book, especially if you were intrigued by its title. Lean more towards his other books, which I will still continue to listen to.

Some Good Points: Turns Bigoted Toward the End
The first ¾ of the book is fine with some decent reminders. Toward the end the author begins making a series of tone deaf blanket statements about how "the poor" are and what they are doing to keep themselves poor. The author lacks perspective in the reality for billions of humans on the planet.
