Publisher's Summary

Available in audio-first, an extraordinary new romance by New York Times best-selling author Emma Chase!

Head of the class...

Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.

The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and "cool" teacher in the hometown where he's not just a golden boy — he's platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.

Then...Callie Carpenter comes home.

And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Back to school...

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself...on the other side of the country. But circumstances — that she'd prefer to never speak of again — have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.

Now she's facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore...and that's just the teachers.

Just like old times...

When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance — and then has to stop herself from jumping him.

Good friends are all they can ever be.

Or...these teachers just might end up getting schooled — hard — by love.

Includes a special bonus interview with the author!

RomComs are my happy place
"Getting Schooled by Emma Chase combines so many of my favorite romantic tropes—small town, childhood sweethearts, second chance, and—as the hero is the high school football coach—even a little bit of sports romance. Above all, however, Chase delivers a feel-good romantic comedy that’s narrated by two of my favorites: Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber."

Hilarious yet Romantic

First let me say the narrators were a great combo. Andi did a phenomenal job as usual. Zachary was a bit of a surprise. He was so funny with his voices and the projection of expressions coming thru. I really enjoyed his narration.

The story was romantic and funny all at the same time. This was a make you feel good book while laughing out loud. I don’t recommend you pass this book up. This author has captured humor writing at its best. Lost love and second chances with humor. What’s not to enjoy?

Sheer Perfection!

Every once in a while I stumble upon a book that provides a nearly perfect reading experience. In this case the experience was auditory, but honestly the feeling - that almost giddy excitement and sweetly satisfied heart feeling - was just the same. The characters came alive for me and I absolutely adored their voices - that is, both the narration and the actually character voices themselves which were that perfect blend of sarcasm and sincerity that feels authentic and relatable (and frankly, a bit swoony). This is my first book by Emma Chase and now I’m dying to know what I’ve been missing. I laughed out loud, I cried a little, and I gave my heart over completely to Garrett and Callie’s story. Truly, this was one of those perfect reading/listening experiences and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

A+ for Getting Schooled!

Getting Schooled gets a resounding A+! What a cute romance, this book gave me all the feels! I loved everything about this story. Sometimes its nice to listen/read a book where there's not excessive drama, and instead you have a solid story that makes your heart full and makes you believe in love.

Garrett and Callie are two thirty-somethings that rekindle a love that never really died from their teenage years. With a cast of hilarious characters, Getting Schooled will keep you hanging on every word and falling head over heels in love. Bravo Emma Chase, job well done!

The most fun you can have dressed

I haven’t laughed this much in a long time. This second chance romance brings two high school sweethearts back together after 17 years. Garrett and Callie are golden together. With the backdrop of the local high school plus their crazy families, there is never a dull moment in this story. The narration is spot on and I couldn’t recommend this any more.

This is one of Emma Chase's BEST!!

I forgot how many books I have listened to by Emma Chase.
She writes such great stories and doesn't have 10 come out in one year like other authors in this category. It seems she really takes her time and puts out great stories in each of her books.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!!
It's not another run of the mill love story.
It's filled with funny moments from High School kids. I caught my self laughing out loud listening to this,
Zachary Webber really does a Fantastic job with his personality in making every character he narrates funny as hell in this book and he does several voices in this.
This story through out is fun, emotional, and has a different ending than you would expect.
Just Loved this one!!
Andi Arndt, well she is always wonderful in every way. What a talent.
Worth a credit and I think I might buy this one for keeps even though it's in the Romance package.
Don't miss this one.

Can I go back to school???

Would you consider the audio edition of Getting Schooled to be better than the print version?

I don't know, the print version isn't out yet! But I have to think the audio might be just a little bit better, because who wouldn't want to listen to Zachary Webber!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Getting Schooled?

There were 2 moments that really got me, but I don't want to say what they are because that would completely spoil things for those who haven't listened/read the book yet. Let's just say it was a cloudy drive home from work today and I had to put on my sunglasses to hide the tears!

Which scene was your favorite?

Oh goodness, lots of them! But I laughed when it was revealed what happened to Callie's parents, to cause their accident.I loved the interactions both Callie and Garrett had with their students. And what the students did for Garrett there towards the end. And Callie's walk around town, and the revelation she had- I was hoping for that!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Aren't they all? But I actually enjoyed listening on my drive to and from work- it was a great way to start the day, and an enjoyable way to end the work day

Any additional comments?

This was such a great book! I loved the laughs and the sweet moments. Andi and Zachary were fantastic.

My favorite Emma Chase book to date!

STORY OVERVIEW AND REVIEW:

Reading (or in this case, listening to) Getting Schooled by Emma Chase is like watching a person fit puzzle pieces perfectly together. There's a sense of fulfillment and content in listening to this story, one that warrants a sigh of pleasure. It's full of wonderful characters, humor, emotion, and depth. The voices of her characters spoke loud and true, and you will love them for it. I have always loved Emma Chase's words—it's smart, witty, and addictive. Getting Schooled has all of that in spades.

Garrett Daniels and Callaway Carpenter fell in love in high school, and thought they would be together forever. You'd look at them and know it's not puppy love. But distance and time apart put an end to their relationship, and they both move on with their lives—Callie in San Diego trying to make her way into the theater world, and Garrett back at home coaching his old school's football team to the top.

An incident Callie would rather not think about ever again makes her move back to her parents' house in New Jersey. She takes a temporary job at her old high school as the substitute teacher, and there she reunites with the love of her life. Garrett Daniels, golden boy and former star athlete of their school, is now the football coach of the team. They finally get their second chance more than a decade later at the very same place where it all began.

I knew from the moment Garrett and Callie talked to each other again that they were meant to be. Without a doubt. Everything about their relationship felt real to me. It was so heartwarming to see them feel and act so at ease with each other even after being apart for so long. They are each other's person. Whether they're laughing, making love, or breaking apart, it brought a tug to my heart that rarely happens when I read books. And I read a lot. I loved this couple that much.

While Garrett and Callie's reunion was central to the story, I love that Getting Schooled also highlighted what it's like to be a teacher. It was interesting to see their train of thought, the efforts they did to reach their students, their frustrations and hurt, and the joy of seeing their students grow and learn. It added so much to the story without stealing the spotlight from the romance.

WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT THE AUDIOBOOK?

Aside from the story, the narrators were fantastic! I'm a huge fan of Andi Arndt, so it's not really surprising that she did a wonderful job here. I've only listened to Zachary Webb a few times, but it still blows my mind how amazing of a narrator he is. He's amazing in acting out not just Garrett, but every single person in this book. I've never been so entertained by a narrator as much as Zachary Webber.

These two wonderful narrators brought to life a story that is already strong on its own.

This is definitely one of the most enjoyable audiobooks I've listened to. The emotions and imagery were so vivid that I felt like I was in their world. I saw the football games, sat with the students in class, watched front row as Garrett and Callie got their second chance. I laughed out loud, smiled like a complete idiot, and cried. By the end of it, I felt so full. I was ready to burst with love and emotion.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS AUDIOBOOK TO A FRIEND? IF SO, WHY?

Absolutely! Romance fans will enjoy this wonderfully written second chance story. It has everything I could possibly want in an audiobook, and I'm sure audiophiles and audiobook virgins alike would agree.

Mature, Funny and Sexy

While Callie was a wonderfully written character, high school teacher/coach Garrett was absolutely addicting: strong, caring and sexy.

I would use the term alpha male, since Garret was incredibly protective of Callie, his students, players and family. Sadly, the term alpha male has recently been misconstrued in recent fiction to describe violent, arrogant and sadistic bullies.

I loved the way Garret admired, respected and supported Callie, who was dealing with family and career challenges. Callie was smart and confident, happy to reconnect with her high school boyfriend but not desperate or clingy.

Bonus: very humorous moments, interesting secondary characters, amazing narration. Thank you Emma Chase! Excellent work!

Perfect!

I don't give five star reviews to that many romances. This one stood out for me. I am so glad I listened instead of read because these narrators were outstanding. Second chance romances are usually a favorite of mine and this one delivered. The characters were amazing and that includes the main ones and peripheral ones. The romance was pretty perfect.

If I learned nothing else from this, it's that yes, you can go home again(in life and fiction)and not only that, you can thrive. Plus, it's so nice to read/listen to a romance with very little angst. Couldn't stop listening. Highly recommended!

5 stars!!

I absolutely adored this book. Considering its out first in audible I need to say that Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt did a superb job. The narration couldn't have been better. In fact, it was one of my favorite audio books to date. The story was the perfect blend of heart and humor. Zachary was brilliant with the different family members and their Jersey accents, I found myself laughing out loud several times.

A second chance romance where the all star jock is still a jock, and the theatre nerd is still the theatre nerd, but with time and maturity you have two people that could never let go of a love they once had. The relationship between Garrett and Callie had me completely smitten. Chase did a great job portraying todays kids in high school and how teachers today have to adapt to them.

I LOVED every minute of this audio and I can't wait for it come release in ebook/paperback and demand all of my non audio friends to read this one! An auto one-click for me!

Great Second Chance Romance

This is one of those audiobooks that when you start it, you just want to listen to it all at once as it's so addictive.

Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt did a great job narrating as usual, they really brought the characters and story to life.

Can't wait to listen to the next book in this new series.

Sweet story

I knew how it was going to turn out though as I’d read Deans story first (this one precedes it). I had no clue it was a series as there was no mention of it on the blurb on Amazon. Never mind. It was a nice story anyway and the narrators are brilliant.

Entertaining second chance romance

Wonderful, sweet, funny and emotional. All words that describe this feel good, small town, second chance romance. If you haven’t figured it out yet. I loved this sweet, angst free audio. Garrett Daniels was the perfect character to fall in love with, and Callie Carpenter was his perfect high school sweetheart. Sadly Callie moves away after school, and their relationship slowly fizzles out. Things pick up again when Callie has to return home to help look after her parents following a car accident. This is where the story really starts. Their story is funny, emotional, entertaining and completely addictive. Narrated by the awesome Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt

A wonderful story

Made me laugh and made me cry too. A truly lovely story, with wonderful narration.
It is important to listen to them in the correct order, as the characters cross reference a lot between the 3 books, which is great, but would give the endings away if heard in the wrong order.

Fine

It was fine, but I never really got invested…

Also, it’s really old fashioned in “that’s how us men all think” and “I want to kill all men she ever touched - and that’s my prerogative as a man” kind of way. Sometimes it’s boarderline sexist, which I found distracting. 😅🤷‍♀️

Disappointing

I won't be bothering with the rest of the series.

What a way to bash a profession.

This story would've been a really sweet read for me, but once I got to the part where the author bashed teachers and tradespeople, I was seriously annoyed. That stayed with me for the rest of the book.
Yes, it could be argued that the character thought those things, not the author, but why didn't another 'character' correct them? It seems way too ignorant for me and was a clear insult to people who work a trade.

Anyway, Callie and Garrett were great together. Plenty of chemistry, obvious love that'd continued over time (but it didn't feel like they'd been apart 17 years. I think, at one point, it mentioned 16, but I may have misheard.)

I was expecting a massive turn, the looming point of romance books where the main characters come to blows, but it never did. Yeah, there was a slight hiccup because of the Becca incident, but that's it.

I think I might've been more positive if the dragging of certain professions wasn't in the story.

P.S. This has nothing to do with the book, but kinda does, too. If you have a DIYer install anything electrical in your house WITHOUT having the necessary qualifications, certificates, and regulations passes, then your home insurance becomes void if you have a house fire caused by faulty electrical work.

So comforting

A story about a second chance at your first love. It's written with such emotion and although there are some comments about it being slow or boring it's a fantastic depiction of normal life if you need to lose yourself and put your self in the characters shoes it's a lot easier to do it in this story than an Anita Blake novel!
10/10 will listen to this again. The narration is amazing they both really get into character which makes it so much better.
I will just say a warning ⚠️ spoiler ahead so stop reading please.

I was devastated about Snoopy having just put my first dog down recently. It really opened some sad wounds here. He was old and it was well written but heck it was sad.
I also found the child loss moment hard to listen to as it hit close to home. Zach does such a good job. His voice catches in the right spots to make it feel like Garret is recounting his story.

I actually read the 2nd book first but it didn’t spoil the story at all. Just like the first one I was blown away by the awesome writing, the real life experiences depicted in the book which had me crying in sympathy then later laughing at the humour. The chemistry was pretty sizzling too. Andi and Zachary do a fantastic job with the narration.

OH SO ENJOYABLE

I loved this story, written by Emma Chase, and I loved the narration by Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt. I find these audiobooks so enjoyable, as I use them as motivation to walk and get my steps up in lockdown. I would certainly enjoy this story if I read it myself BUT the narration add so much to the story in my opinion. Skilled narrators take a fabulous story and make it so much more enjoyable.
Emma Chase manages to write a fabulous and authentic male perspective, which has me chuckling to myself and even laughing out loud at some parts. it is so good, I highly recommend Getting Schooled.

Lots of laughs. As a retired schoolie, this brought back memories.

second chance romance

I love a good second chance romance. Getting Schooled is a mainly light hearted, at times funny read. There are a few poignant moments in the story as well.

Callie's parents were hilarious. The reason for their accident that had her rushing back home to help take care of them made me LOL. Garrett and Callie were teenage sweethearts, and even though they hadn't seen each other in years, the feelings and chemistry between them hadn't faded in the slightest.

Rather than single one student out, I'm just going to refer to them as a collective - I loved them! All their characters in the story, the individual personalities and problematic ( for some ) daily life issues really added to the overall story.

With Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt as the narrators, a good performance of the story is guaranteed. They are both so enjoyable to listen to.
