Publisher's Summary

The first official novel from Game Grumps

Listen up, kid. My name is Dr. Cecil H.H. Mills. I’m the author of this book and many other ones that you might not have heard of. This book is about two idiot wannabe detective-types. Their names are J.J. and Valentine Watts, but I’m not sure if they’re actually brothers or not.

They make a friend; her name is Trudi de la Rosa. She’s a wannabe detective-type too, but honestly, she’s less of an idiot than the brothers.

The three of them team up to solve a mystery that takes place in a snowy chateau up in the mountains. It gets more complicated around chapter 11, but now you’ve got the main gist of it. The story’s full of intrigue and adventure and puzzles and light violence and some swear words. It’s really entertaining.

Just buy the book and start listening. You’ll understand everything about the Ghost Hunters Adventure Club very soon.

Gripping, a tour de force.

Dr. Cecil H.H. Mills astounds yet again by conquering the inhospitable wilds of the intellectual wasteland otherwise known as "young adult fiction," further cementing his reputation as the most brilliant and handsome author working today. And it is at this point that I am legally obligated to disclose that the esteemed author has had a restraining order against me ever since an unfortunate misunderstanding involving a beaver at a Denny's in Grand Rapids, MI circa 1992, but don't let that obfuscate the truth of Dr. Mills' heroic accomplishment in the field of youth-oriented adventure literature. The only thing more engrossing than his mastery of the written word is the charming timbre of his practiced oratory. I salute you, good sir, and would much appreciate it if you would retract your lawsuit compelling the State of Michigan to register me as a sex offender, as I find it terribly uncalled for and constitutes an undue burden on my ability to find gainful employment. Best regards, You Know Who.

Review (that word starts with an ‘R’)

It’s been so long since a book has made me laugh out loud. The wittiness and quip - not to mention the fact that it’s really just a well written cast and story - make this a very quick and enjoyable listen. If you’re familiar with the Game Grumps’ humor, think of this like a 4.5 hour episode at sustained, peak comedic performance. If you’re not familiar with what I’m talking about, boy you’re in for a treat. It’s well worth the $10, you’ll love it.

JJ and Valentine Watts are the two members of the Ghost Hunters Adventure Club. A dynamic duo sharp as a whip and quick as a tack (you read that right), they’re hired by an author who writes mystery novels and tasked with solving a ghost story at the isolated “Grande Chateau” hotel. Arriving in the midst of a weekend snowstorm, the boys hardly have a chance to start the case when everything blows up in their face. We meet an amusing spread of characters, each with comedic quirks and caricature-like qualities that make them hilariously distinct. Within minutes the story is thrust into a whirling mystery-on-mystery full of quick fire humor, fourth wall breaks by the audiobook’s arrogant “author”, and — of course — a painfully deep and relatable analysis of the human condition by none other than said author, Dr. Cecil H. H. Mills himself (at least... according to him).

The performance of this book is on another level. I’ve finished around 75 audiobooks through audible and this is for sure in the top 5 narrations I’ve heard. There are no production bumps, skips or volume issues that I was able to notice. Overall, the story is great fun and is one of those I could see myself listening to again.

Incredible experience of literature

Dr. Cecil H.H. Mills' nephew put me onto this masterpiece! Really couldn't understand his reservations about the book though....
Maybe he just feels like he might end up living in the shadow of his uncle's newfound literary prowess!
Very understandable.

I cannot wait for more.

Dr. Mills is a very talented author and narrator. I don't see why his nephew complains so much, but I am very glad he listened to his mother and helped Dr. Mills. This book is wonderfully crafted. It's meta humor is top notch. if you're looking for funny and mysterious this is the book for you.

Fun YA mystery

Somewhere between a cynical Scooby Doo and Goonies mystery lies this book. The 4th wall breaking was a bit much at the beginning but became charming. You will probably have a better grasp of the humor and tone changes (literally) if you are aware of the author's non-literary work. Had a good time and hope for more.

The mediocre kind of good

The story gets bored with itself at times, shifting focus at slightly awkward times for seemingly little reason. The narration is good, but Ari- I'm sorry, Dr. Cecil H.H. Mills A: forgets minutia about the different voices between the recordings, and B: gave some characters accents that he seemingly didn't have much experience with, which made them a bit flat to listen to as the intonation was pretty monotone at times.

Overall though, I enjoyed it. It doesn't do anything particularily special, but it stays a semi-interesting tale the entire way. The real irony of the book to me though is that Dr. Cecil is by far the most interesting character, despite being the (occasionaly grating) narrator.

GamegGrumps fan or not, you'll enjoy this

The story is really nothing to write home about, but the delivery of the jokes and the voice acting is top notch and deserves your time.

Awesome

I loved everything about this book, from the way it was told to the twists and turns, to the way it broke the 4th wall and the attempt at accents.

I would never usually read something like this, but after being gently persuaded into buying this book, I did. No regrets.

I used to read Nancy Drew as a kid

The voice actors/story was fun and reminded me of old Nancy Drew books that I read as a kid (my dyslexia only let me read old Nancy Drew for some reason). The jokes at times can be maybe not for kids but I think it could also go over their heads just as easily. I also like the background story of the author being in debt forced to make this book.
