Well into the 21st century, our species continues to participate in beliefs and customs that seem more suited to the Bronze Age than the Information Age, some of which involve poisonous snakes, holy smoke, urine bubbles, crystals, tarot cards, aliens, costumed virgins, and, of course, an offering plate. Story
Seth Andrews wasn't an idiot during his 30 years as an evangelical Christian. He wasn't unintelligent, nor did his IQ shift when he ultimately left religion entirely. He considered himself thoughtful, moral, reasonable, and at least as smart as the average person. In other words, he wasn't an idiot. Yet strangely, he often sounded like one.

Seth Andrews idolized Rush Limbaugh. He listened to Glenn Beck. He read Ann Coulter. He watched Fox News. He was an evangelical Christian once tethered to right-wing media, which constantly warned of an attack on American values by liberals and secular humanists. Mark Gatiss ( Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones) reads chilling tales by the unsung master of the classic ghost story: E. F. Benson. There's nothing sinister about a London bus. Nothing supernatural could occur on a busy train platform. There's nothing terrifying about a little caterpillar. And a telephone, what could be scary about that? Don't be frightened of the dark corners of your room. Don't be alarmed by a sudden inexplicable chill.

Story
Midnight. Some call it the witching hour. Others call it the devil’s hour. Here in the graveyard, midnight is a very special time. It is a time when ghostly spirits are at their strongest, when the veil between our world and theirs is at its thinnest. Legend has it, that while most of the world is asleep, the lack of prayers allow the spirits to communicate under the cover of darkness, among the headstones, their whispers rustling in the leaves of the old oak trees. But if you’re here in the graveyard, you can tell yourself it’s just the wind....

Do what you love
First, before we get into the stories, Seth's voice made me pregnant. Okay okay, his voice doesn't have supernatural powers, but it's close. Beyond that he's not just a sexy voice with nothing to say, he performs his readings well and in a wildly entertaining fashion.
Which could have a lot to do with the fact that he wrote them and adores this genre. Seth's enthusiasm for the topic comes through loud and clear, you will be entertained, and a little creeped out, but in a good way.
Give it a listen! Just not while taking a midnight jog.

Worth it for the Performances Alone!
This audio book is a delightful compilation of ghost stories, some familiar, some completely new, and all wonderfully creepy in their own ways. While I did find that a couple of the stories had predictable story paths or endings (only one of which was because I had heard that particular tale before), I felt they were all worth listening to for the absurdly good performance Seth and his compatriots bring to the table. Seth does a wonderful job not just telling you a story, but dragging you kicking and screaming into the middle of it with well written dialogue and visuals, as well as atmosphere enhancing sound effects. I wasn't just listening to a ghost story, I was present within it, experiencing it just the same as the characters were. Even the stories where I was aware what was going to happen, or predicted as much, I still found myself shouting "get out of the house!!" or some other such pleading, as though the characters would hear me and heed my advice. I cannot recommend this Audiobook enough.

Spooky fun! Great production!
I'm not much of a horror fan but I enjoy Seth Andrews' annual Ghost Stories show on his podcast so I decided to invest an Audible credit on his recently-released collection of stores. There are fourteen stories in this collection, with some original stories and some spooky urban legends.
The production is excellent, very professional. Seth has an amazing voice and his narration is fantastic. In addition to Seth, there were nine other voice actors involved. The stories also featured realistic sound effects and chilling background music. He also credits a Georgia law enforcement officer for providing consultation for police procedures.
I listened to this on my recent road trip to Wisconsin and it kept me entertained and awake along the lonely deer carcass-lined roads. It was a lot of fun.

Fantastically spooky
Seth Andrews has one of the hands down best voices in podcasts. To hear him read his own stories on this audible book is a treat of the best kind and well worth triple the cost of the book. The background music and sounds are very well done and add to the suspense of each story. You will find yourself enthralled from beginning to end. I'm not sure which story is my favorite since I like them all.
I've heard many of Andrews' Ghost Stories podcasts over the years and was glad to get these stories in an audible book.
Though I probably should NOT have listened to them while in the dentist's chair,....

Genuinely scary and even traumatising in places
I’ve been looking forward to listening to this since hearing Seth’s annual Halloween Ghost Stories episodes on The Thinking Atheist podcast.
The stories themselves are very good but it’s the music and sound effects that really make the stories terrifying.
I dare you to plug in your headphones and listen to Arabella the Black (chapter 14) alone in a darkened room in the middle of the night. It’ll make your heart race and your ears ring!
I highly recommend this if you like horror or dramatised audiobooks.

Spooky and heartbreaking
Regular listeners of Seth Andrews' podcast will find old Halloween favourites here, some of them rewritten a little and rerecorded as well as some new stories and urban legends we haven't heard before. This collection is much more like an old fashioned radio horror show than what you might usually expect from an audio book as it is highly produced with a soundscape that creates atmosphere and enhances the tales.I can't recommend this book highly enough.
